Sorry, my mind was concentrated on Aleppo and an aid convoy getting through.
I will try to get down to the newsagents and buy the DM and read it from cover to cover then start ranting. unless i read it for myself i will only have someone else's interpretation of what it says.
That is an interesting point trisher - you respect people who read the DM?
Not sure some other posters would agree with you.
I have respect for people who are kind and do good in their lives to help others - doers rather than complainers.
One such poster who does such a lot of good has been horribly treated on some threads

to want HATE campaigns against foreigners in the popular Press to stop...
(360 Posts)So many Gneters think that it is not fair to target the readers of certain newspapers - and yet- the front pages of some of those newpapers are full of hate targetting foreigners, day in, day out. Today foreign drivers who phone or text at the wheel. Phoning or texting at the wheel is a menace, and should be stopped - whether it is mum or dad on the school run, white van drivers or lorry drivers, anyone- irrespective of nationality, sex, ethnicity, profession - ALL:
Totally agree with his 'rant' of the sheer hatred and racism in the popular Press at the moment- which is spilling out onto our streets too:
STOP PHONING OR TEXTING AT THE WHEEL - be you Polish, or British, or a dad or mum on the school run, or a Trader, or ... ANYONE - JUST - STOP - IT - please.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
In order to tackle any problem it is first necessary to admit that there is one. Why would you think that this is not a cause for concern? Because you don't see it? That is an excuse used throughout history to excuse persecution and victimization. It isn't necessary to buy the papers in question to be aware of the things being said. I actually have more respect for people who buy these papers and mistakenly believe the misinformation they are being fed, than I do for people who prefer to turn away and ignore the problem. Especially when they can only curse and rant when they are questioned about their attitude.
What - more
?
I have been out this evening and already had two
mustn't over do it! Not on a Monday night anyway
I think we should have a version of the drinking game on here, so that any thread that gets a Nazi comment ( it's a regular occurrence on this forum)
we shout 'Nazi'
And have a swig

So then - what are you doing to stop headlines you dislike in the national press?
Are you starting a campaign, marching in the streets? Or just complaining on social media and getting annoyed with other people who don't read the papers or scour the supermarkets looking at the headlines?
They are not in my line of vision in my local supermarket, I usually go straight to the fruit and veg.
I would rather give the £1 a day or whatever it costs for a paper towards helping refugees.
I wonder what else you would close your eyes and avoid seeing? Isn't that how the Nazis began targeting the Jews?
for fuck's sake
and that from someone who doesn't swear
As an adult, I am fully aware of the significance of those abbreviation, and my little alteration was quite deliberate.
If you get the vapours over it, it is indeed your problem.
As for headlines inciting racism and intolerance, - it is a completely different kettle of hatred fish - and no, it is not acceptable and the slippery slope to fascims, always has been. And as always, a significant proportion chose to ignore it at best, act upon it and excuse it, at worst. Vapours ... yet.
granjura I do hope you have noted that I did not post FFS but FGS which for your information stands for 'for goodness sake'.
If grown-up people are unable to wander around a town centre without having a fit of the vapours because of newspaper headlines that's their proble,m.
Ana - I like to buy some newspapers and magazines - and there is no way I can be expected to avoid any areas that sell them to avoid seeing this vile racist - why should I, or anyone. They are all over FB and other social media- because they are so shocking and disgusting and racist, and more.
At least the porn mags, which are much less damaging to society, are put where your eyes don't scan and have plain covers in front so as not to offend. FFS indeed.
OFGS just because we can read newspaper headlines without going into meltdown doesn't make Jalima and me tantamount to Nazis. Get a grip...
It saddens me to see that a nation which has been multicultural for so many years, has in recent times become so racist, as reflected in the press, and I imagine in daily life.
I dont live in the UK, but have friends from different backgrounds living there, both British born and bred and people from other cultures. Many of them tell me that life is a lot less tolerant of others than it used to be.
I am unsure as to how much of this is as a result of the media, brexit, or just inmigration, but I find it sad, whatever the reason behind it.
As for driving while using a mobile, it is a terrible thing to do, and can have grave consequences, as has unfortunately, been proven on too many occasions. The reason that signals are not blocked for drivers (and yes, I am led to believe it is possible) is that many drivers abroad use their phones as a satnav, in order to direct them to their destination.
For those asking if using a mobile phone while driving is illegal in other countries, I can only speak of Spain, where it has been illegal (and pulls huge fines) since 2000. In fact, in Spain you can get a fine of up to 600€ whereas in UK it is only 100 pounds, from what i understand. Also, in Spain you automatically lose your licence for three months minimum, in UK you lose 3 points on your licence for the same offence - taken from the gov.uk website. www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law
. Maybe UK need to tighten their laws?
I don't know what's 'in them' Jalima because I don't read the trash. But when they use the front cover to print their full page, full colour, capital letters blatant lies it's difficult to not see them. Why should I have to avoid certain parts of supermarkets so as not to be brainwashed?
So as long as you don't read them, or actually look at them it is Ok for newspapers to make any sort of remarks about foreigners, Jalima and Ana? I wonder what else you would close your eyes and avoid seeing? Isn't that how the Nazis began targeting the Jews?
Because they're usually right in front of you as you walk into a supermarket. On a large rack outside our village post office that you walk past to get to the shop. It's subliminal. What's it got to do with 'being adult' by the way?
Yes, why even glance at a newspaper stand if you're going to be filled with disgust and horror at the headlines? Aren't we all adults on this site?
I did hear that on the news last night granjura about the millions of votes already cast.
could it invalidate the election result?
I've been out and about today but did not see any headlines; in fact I rarely see them! If I go into a shop the papers are usually on a stand and I don't go and look at them.
It amazes me that the people who are most disgusted about some of the papers are the ones who always know what's in them
What is awful about all the Press and other publicity re Hilary's e-mails and the FBI- is that 100.000s have voted early their votes have been cast - and no 'ooops sorry, she actually did nothing wrong' will take them back.
I am amused by all this vitriol about the papers. I happily admit to reading the Daily Mail and the i, oh, and the Observer and Daily Telegraph at weekends. Some days I read the Guardian as well. I couldn't care less if people make unwarranted assumptions about my political beliefs as a result.
The news in the Newspapers is a lot more reliable than any you can get online. You know exactly which party each daily newspaper supports and can factor that in when reading its views. All the papers have much longer and more detailed articles on subjects of note than you get online unless you do a lot of delving and they bring to view all sorts of news items you would otherwise never know about if you rely on the brief reports available on the usual news channels.
With News channels you usually have very little idea where they are coming from, especially when foreign and there was a very interesting article, I forget where, in the last few days describing how fake news websites are making up stories that then gain credibility by being repated on lots on internet sites.
On line news from BBC or Sky or OK, but they only report the foam of international news, top stories and 'what's trending'. Give me a decent Newspaper, any newspaper, any day.
Daily mail headline today 'Houdini Hillary Escapes Jail'. Even if you don't read/buy these disgusting papers [I omit the word 'news' as they just full of sensationalist tripe]you can't avoid the headlines if you're out and about. They disgust me.
It's not just one or two who "get the right end of the stick" granjura. There was a letter in the Guardian headed "No excuse for Mail slur against foreign drivers" signed by Harun Khan Muslim Council of Britain, David Walker Bishop of Manchester, Richard Baker Christian Aid, Rabbi Danny Rich Liberal Judaism and Ian Hopkins Chief Constable Greater Manchester Police and 49 others. I also heard Cardinal Vincent Nicols saying how corrosive the atmosphere had become towards foreigners since Brexit, aided by the media.
Never reading the 'Popular Press' ( no newspapers at all) is the best way to keep blood pressure low.
Most lorries arrive at Dover and drive through Kent, and need to drive on the other side of the road. we have had two terrifying experiences, both Bulgarian, lorries driven carelessly. A friend in her ka was dragged along the m20 by a polish lorry. She was told by the police that these drivers know they will get away with offences because police don't catch them and if they do British insurance companies don't chase these claims up even when information is provided, which was our experience.
I am not following the thread I know and do not support all the anti foreigner bias in some papers but would advise particular care is taken on the M2 and M20. I am now very nervous on motorways especially when in the vicinity of lorries Whether they are uk or foreign.
