Just painted my red tiled window sills red with cardinal paint ...

As a soft Southerner, I used to Cardinal my steps, which were red tiled. Does anyone still do that?

We just scrubbed our steps with a scrubbing brush and a big bar of sunlight soap and then swilled with a bucket of water.

Oh - now it makes sense lol

An in-donkeystoned step was a sign of the type of slovenly woman how lived in the house. No doubt she didn't dry her windows with newspaper or swill her yard either.

Donkey stone is a type of soft sandstone. You could get it in a variety of shades....every lady had her own favourite. My first proper house job when I was about 5 was to donkey stone the doorstep. First you scrubbed the step. Then you rubbed the donkey stone over it until the step was covered. It was a bit like colouring in with chalk but harder. Then you stood back and admired your work and hoped that no one would step on it because the minute they did your lovely step was ruined.

Someone very very close to me has had to deal with the fall out of a cheating partner, she did so with dignity, she is a respected journalist too, but had had to give up a well paid job to go freelance as she has a 4 year old son and without help the traveling for you much. She also does not run her ex down to or discuss him with everyone. Life is hard for her and this is the reality of a cheating husband/partner.
I also feel the remark about having her hair and makeup done trivialized the subject.
I would never discuss personnel things like that, so on one occasion when somebody said something about my personnel life I was able to tell them to keep their comments to themselves, as I had not invited their opinion.
I do not mind magazine programmes or some reality tv, I also do not read highbrow papers, I just found the way the post was written a bit shallow.

I remember GN well from a few other forums, where she was a member. She certainly didn't mince her words - a real character.
I joined here at the time the searches were going on, what a way to go. But she was doing what she loved.

I don't remember GN as always being respectful!

merlotgran So true are your comments re Greatnan she certainly shot a few guns across the broadside didn't she but she was always respectful in what she had to say,one of my friends knew her very well from when she taught school near us and her opinions where always the same its such a pity we don't have anymore like her on GN.

But remarks such as Who the hell are you????, and What a pile of crock are not a case of someone just does not agree with your views, are they? They're hardly witty or interesting either. I certainly don't recall Greatnan responding to newcomers like that.

Greatnan was never afraid to stir things up and fire as many broadsides as she liked. Posts and sometimes whole threads were regularly deleted which may have upset the more sensitive souls among us but nobody could have accused us of being bland.

For all sorts of reasons If I wanted to talk about such a matter as a partner with a history of adultery I would make sure that I had anonymity. What about the effect on other members of the families of these people?

Where you expecting an accolade?

All posters have different views but I would be entitled to give my opinion (right or wrong) that your post could have suggested to others that you might just be out for the money and attention.
This is how it might appear to be to others.

Gransnet cannot win here, MN thinks we are bland and boring because we do not challenge people as much as they do.
To express an opinion which does not fit in with another persons ideas is not bullying. It annoys me that the allegation of bullying arises when someone just does not agree with your views. That is unacceptable.

Watched out of interest your interview on TM on catch up TV.
You came across as very nice cheerful lady who seemed very relaxed.
I didn't go as far a watching the phone in
I suspect that the point of your appearance on the show was to illustrate life & forgiveness after an affair.

If you had as said before further up the thread posted under a different heading you may have got a quite different response.
But posting under AIBU (am I being unreasonable) caused confusion.
Just like magazines GN has different headings

Please come back a familiarise yourself with the GN site and I am sure you will then agree that it is anything like your initial thoughts.

Surely we are too highbrow and middle class to do our own steps. We pay someone else to do them.
