It is a relief that my three DGSs can spend their time playing Harry Potter and Minecraft and generally acting their age.

I've never heard of lap-dancing parties for little girls.

or as on another thread people were actually saying that they didn't like the idea of modesty shorts.

I agree and wish the current fashion for blue and pink, gender stereo clothes and toys would just ffffade away

Ps I say thankfully not because they are boys but because no child should sexualised at young ages, by advertising, clothing or anything else

Yes it's a crazy world isn't it ,as you say Iam64, with the horrors we are hearing about child prostitution/abuse & neglect etc , it seems inconceivable that parents who live in the 'OK 'world don't see the irony & the stupidity to what is essentially sexualising their young girls, & as an added thought boys are not generally targeted in the same way by the advertisers etc(thankfully)

Totally agree. Why do some parents want their children to grow up faster than they should?

I'd never seen my vaginal area until Advised to do so by Our Bodies Ouselves. That's what we need, a resurgence of feminism to knock all this body image nonsense right on the head.
I read last year that some mothers were organising lap dancing parties for their 6 - 11 year old daughters to celebrate their birthdays. I'd have been Ms Grumpy and refused to allow mine to go to obedience of those.
This thread makes uncomfortable reading for those of us reading the thread on the Rochdale abuse documentary. I can't separate the early sexualisation of children from that kind of horror.

I can see the point of it if it's the hanging bits are causing a problem but not for cosmetic reasons.

OK this may be TMI but as one of those who has protruding labia minora I can tell you that, as a horse mad pre-teen they made riding damnably uncomfortable. The situation eased somewhat once through puberty owing to the general increase in lubrication around that area but now, post menopausal, the problem has increased again. If I could afford it, I would have it, but not for cosmetic reasons.
I'm going to have to name change now I suppose.

When I was in my 20's there was a very good book called Our Bodies Our selves I think. It explained the female body in great detail and explained how to examine yourself with a mirror. It did make you feel that there was a whole range of normal and it didn't really matter what different bits looked like. I can't help feeling that anyone who had had a few bouts of cystitis or thrush might think twice about messing with that region unnecessarily.

This article says that about half of all girls/women have labia minora which are longer than the labia majora (outer labia).

I remember when I was at school, one of my friends was rather shy when it came to the showers.

I asked her why, and she said "I'm different". Turned out that her labia minor protruded beyond her labia major, quite common, I believe.

I also wonder about the ethics and morality of surgeons performing these procedures on minors unless there is a valid medical reason.

(due to July being a month of family birthdays) I can't really add anymore other than I find it horrific on all levels

A step backwards for women

Programmes like TOWIE are to blame far more than porn. TOWIE is readily available to watch on TV and on catch up. It's classed as acceptable television. Young children (and a lot of adults) don't realise that it's pure fantasy. All the see are perfect people with perfect hair, perfect teeth and now, apparently, perfect bits. There is a larger lass on it and she's very glamorous but she is constantly trying to lose weight (so I'm told). So although she looks nice she's reinforcing the 'you have to be thin to be perfect' message too.

I don't even know what my bits look like tbh. Out of all the things I worry, or have ever worried about, the shape of my bits has never been one of them.

I should have said ...had labioplasty on the NHS in 2015 - 2016

An article in the isays that 150 girls under 15 had labioplasty on the NHS. The lowest figure for 10 years.

That figure includes an unspecified number having corrective surgery after suffering FGM. I suspect that that is the reason almost all these operations have taken place. It stated that the NHS does not undertake cosmetic surgery.

Puts a different perspective on it, doesn't it. Pity the poor 9 year old being butchered when she suffered FGM. If she was rescued from the household that sanctioned this barbarity. Is it surprising she asked for remedial surgery?
