to be ashamed of the DM readers racist abuse of Nadiya Hussain?

I often read the DM online - it's entertaining in a perverted sort of way, very prurient. I like to see if I recognise ANY of the so-called celebs in the sidebar.
In a way it's useful to find out where a part of the population get their opinions from.
I would draw the line at reading something like Mein Kampf.

I haven't read the article, I really like Nadiya and I wouldn't have a problem reading about how she celebrates or doesn't celebrate Christmas.

Further to Gillybob's comment I'm just wondering how it would be perceived in the Muslim community if Mary Berry/Delia Smith/Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson were to write an article about how they would celebrate Eid. I imagine the vast majority wouldn't have a problem, but I'm thinking there might also be a vitriolic minority who would voice something along the lines of "how dare you filthy kuffars add your ten cents worth about the most important date in our calendar". There are racists in all communities and as we know many are often very vocally active on line.

Some people might not want to hear what a Muslim does at Christmas just as some Muslims might not want to know what a Christian does at Eid.

I dunno just clutching at straws really. I guess some people are just plain nasty and will find any reason to make negative comments.

I wonder (and don't shoot me for what is merely a thought) whether maybe some people are not comfortable with a Muslim telling them/suggesting how best to celebrate Christmas just as a Muslim wouldn't want a Christian to tell them/suggest how best to celebrate Eid .

I go back to the point even on Gransnet there are posters who like to come up with comments such as ' I never read the rag' ' wouldn't know what's in it , it's racist and mysogynistic' etc. etc. Yet these are the posters who usually raise a thread about the Daily Mail, put up a link to the Daily Mail.

As with the any open site all sorts can make a comment . Going on the number of people ' in general' who say they know nothing about it's content yet can tell you this that and tuther what it prints there must be a certain number of people what , lying, reading it to get their daily mail fixation fix, they too are open to make a comment and who knows how their minds work.

The same goes for ALL other newspaper sites and lord knows some of the sites we get links put up to on Gransnet , they have some real charmers commenting.

So all papers should stop publishing articles about people who are:-
skilful
successful
on TV
female
young
quite attractive-looking

because they are also Muslim, and some twerps who don't like that might take it into their heads to be nasty?

If everyone thought like that, we might never had heard of Jesse Owens. All papers should celebrate the success of people of ANY colour, creed, sex. gender, nationality, whatever.

dj the “perpetrators” are those who wrote the comments. Blame them by all means. Just because all BTL comment writers are DM Readers does not mean all DM readers are BTL posters. You should know that. (Necessary and sufficient conditions)
As to whether or not I know there are no perpetrators on here well I don’t , but do you know that there are?

Sorry but your post does not make sense. How can we direct our censure at the real perpetrators without going on the DM itself? In which case it's impossible to treat it with the contempt it deserves.

Of course racist abuse is to be condemned. But it does not need to be given further column inches (here) and is better treated with the contempt it deserves.
It is also no bad thing to direct one’s censure towards the actual perpetrators .

They don't prefer Nadiya to Nancy; the comments show they very obviously do not.
The Nadiya article was on 29th and the Nancy one on 30th October, so it wasn't a case of them preferring one to the other. However, the Nadiya one was about Christmas, and about how she treats Christmas differently - bound to inflame.
