Would it be a good idea to rate topics :-

1 star :-no previous knowledge required

2 stars:-some knowledge advisable

3 stars :-only for the brave!

Slightly tongue in cheek, but maybe a good idea, what do you think.?

You make huge assumptions Bridgeit or do you have a list of everyone's academic achievements?

So, lightheartedly, I would see the OP to this thread and give it 3 stars. I would do that not from knowledge but from experience on here. As you posted it I imagine you would not see it that way. Whose view were you intending to use for your system?

There is so much I don't know about but I assume I will always be able to learn more from others and, where I can, offer anything that I do know. (I have a nice little video I made on how do crocheted loop stitch if anyone needs it).

I also like the fact that others reference people who are more knowledgeable in certain fields than any of us. I wonder why you set out expecting to know everything before the discussion takes place?

What did you miss about ‘slightly tongue in cheek’your replies are exactly the reason I ‘ lightheartedly ‘ suggested it?

I’m really confused about this thread. GN isn’t just an opinions forum - there are some threads where facts and knowledge actually matter a great deal and others where experience is what counts. Then others where posts are based on opinion. Not all opinions are going to be subject to criticism but if they are, then it’s on the content not the style of delivery surely?

Bridgeit Tue 20-Feb-18 17:54:10

One would hope so,but sadly that is not the case, they know who they are & assumedly must enjoy doing it!

I didn't miss anything Bridgeit. I just can't see anything lighthearted in it. Take that out and what do we have?

Bridgeit Tue 20-Feb-18 18:09:39

We would not have the original post !

Bridgeit Tue 20-Feb-18 18:32:53

Just like to say I won’t be posting any more views on this topic , as I have been reported to GN.

gillybob Tue 20-Feb-18 18:38:46

I honestly thought this was a lighthearted thread. A bit of fun confused
I remember others suggesting thumbs up and thumbs downs, likes and dislikes .... what’s the difference? I can’t believe anyone has reported the OP .... and what for? I really can’t understand it.

Bridgeit Tue 20-Feb-18 18:51:07

Thanks Gillybob, so did I , you don’t need to look far to know who, perhaps she would like to openly confirm this.

ffinnochio Tue 20-Feb-18 18:54:11

Quite agree, gillybob

A lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek opener by Bridgeit has, unwittingly, caused some serious input, to the extent of reporting.

Gosh! God forbid a bit of fun on GN. ?

Bridgeit Tue 20-Feb-18 18:55:45

?Thankyou

Eglantine21 Tue 20-Feb-18 19:00:16

Oh dear. A little while ago I (non-seriously) suggested markings for
Be kind only
Open to opinion
Give it to me straight

And was totally ignored.
Think I got off lightly now grin

Elegran Tue 20-Feb-18 19:01:03

The heavy hand of censorship has fallen.
Gransnet used to be a place for laughter and warmth, but they are being gradually squeezed out by humourless gloom.

ffinnochio Tue 20-Feb-18 19:07:44

Perhaps one could even star responses wink

phoenix Tue 20-Feb-18 19:08:18

PLEASE STOP THIS

maryeliza54 Tue 20-Feb-18 19:29:28

Oh for goodness sake - there’s plenty of laughter and warmth on GN and daily example of support and kindness. There’s also robust political deabate where people are disagreed with - just grow up some of you. I think there are some posters who won’t be happy unless all political discussion is banned - it’s not a private club, it’s a forum where anyone can post within the guidelines.

Jane10 Tue 20-Feb-18 19:51:09

Gosh. I read the opening thread and assumed it was meant to be joky (is that a word?) It's obviously taken a very serious downward turn. You never can tell with some threads (except the political ones she said bravely) wink

maryeliza54 Tue 20-Feb-18 20:05:35

Well I read it and thought it was goady - you never can tell can you? ?

Elegran Tue 20-Feb-18 20:25:07

I thought it was meant to be joky too, Jane Heaven knows most social media could have similar stars.

maryeliza54 Tue 20-Feb-18 20:33:52

Well there you go - a difference of opinion which is allowed.

lemongrove Tue 20-Feb-18 20:46:03

Bridgeit of courseit is (was!) a light hearted thread, but some have no sense of humour whatsoever!
I like the 4th gillybob and I suggest a 5th ‘tin hats at the ready* grin

lemongrove Tue 20-Feb-18 20:48:30

And a 6th....’to be read only with a large G&T in hand’

maryeliza54 Tue 20-Feb-18 20:53:11

If you say so lemon you are always right aren’t you? ?

maryeliza54 Tue 20-Feb-18 20:54:15

Think I’ll leave the snowflakes to melt now

lemongrove Tue 20-Feb-18 20:55:25

We certainly need more light hearted threads on GN.
