Clearly this scam is getting to be unproductive and those who make the calls are not getting any pay because they are failing to fool anybody.

It gives us a smidgeon of hope that they will soon stop this scam because it doesnt pay. Unfortunately we will probably have to be alert for something else

No Farnorth no one phoned back
this was my second abusive phone call in two days I just picked up the phone to answer it thinking my daughter was ringing me and after introducing the fact they were ringing about Microsoft and as I didn t answer I was then told I was a cxxx
This was a different number to the first phone call and a different person

Harrigran, if one of your friends, relations or business contacts is on Facebook and not too fussy about privacy settings, his or her entire phone contacts list could well have been hoovered up and sold on by FB.

"I ve just answered thinking it was my daughter and been told I m a cxxx" shock

You mean they phoned back just to be insulting??

At a recent meeting with a trading standards employee we were told that it is possible to obtain local codes, so checking the code before you answer no longer works. We are often asked for mobile numbers in shops, online purchases and I believe they can be sold on. Block the numbers after each call and / or let any unknown numbers go to answer phone. Genuine callers will leave a message.

I had one to my mobile yesterday about my car accident, told her I don't drive and never been in an accident. She then asked me to confirm that I had indeed been in an accident in the last two years. I understand that computers can pick phone numbers at random but how do they get my mobile and link it to my name ? I think only about ten people know my mobile number.

I got one yesterday afternoon, I thought they had given up as I have not had one for a while.
The girl was screaming down the phone telling me to speak English as I went fro French to Dutch, she got a wee bit angrygrin

Our area code here in Greater Manchester is 0161, I have started getting scam calls which come up starting with that code.
I have been answering recently as ,with my H's illness I have been getting calls from SS, physio, equipment providers etc.
They start with an Indian accent and many say they are TalkTalk and my broadband is compromised, I don't have Talk talk.
How are they getting round this?

Our problem is with the automatic calls. It's just a recording on the line not a real person. It's so annoying. We have to answer the phone as it's also our door entry system.

I can't be bothered to waste my precious time on them. I just tend to say 'No thank you' and put the phone down

Ha ha Stansgram et al....I do exactly same....love having fun with them. BUT, we are the ones clued up and I fear for those who aren't, like my elderly mum etc. Time it was stopped once and for all....

BlueBelle Sat 24-Mar-18 18:27:19

Oh I normally do that too stansgran and tiggy but I had no choice today after his tirade of telling me what to do to myself he hung up, flipping spoilsport

OldMeg Sat 24-Mar-18 18:13:11

Stansgran and tiggypiro well done Laydees ??

I think I’ll follow your fine example.

tiggypiro Sat 24-Mar-18 18:06:12

I do the same as you Stansgran and my record is over 7 minutes. Perhaps we could all have a competition to see how long we can keep them talking.

Stansgran Sat 24-Mar-18 16:03:34

I'm always immensely grateful for these calls and spend as much time if available keeping them from scamming more gullible people. I feel I'm doing my duty in protecting the vulnerable if I can have a cup of coffee and a sit down. I embarrass DH no end which in itself is a plus as he is really rude and bangs the phone down. They then ring back all day.

My daughter had one last week from "Microsoft" last week, she got a similar message when she caught the guy out.
She was quite shocked!

BlueBelle Sat 24-Mar-18 14:51:28

I ve just had a phone call about ‘my BT line number xxxxxxx ‘ I answered by saying ‘ I m not interested in your call’ He replied ‘ Well just go and fxxx yourself’ he said it twice then hung up
Just thought I d share that as it’s got to be the best one yet and I hadn’t even had time to saying anything ‘anti scam’ to him
Glad I m not easily shocked
