It is certainly not outdated. It is a highly successful alliance of countries who work together for their mutual benefit. If you want " outdated and irrelevant" look to the UN which has never fulfilled its charter, nor made any useful contribution to the world.

Many thanks Elegran for your very useful post.
Don't very often use that BBC source "down under", but we live and learn and I'll visit it more often. smile

Thank you.
Good Health

Sorry, my first comment obviously wasn't clear.
I meant, that having put ourselves in a possibly more isolated position by leaving the EU, we need to keep
countries as friends/allies where possible.....

paddyann please stop telling us what other people think when you actually have no idea what they think. You just think they think like that.

Elegran Fri 20-Apr-18 20:00:20

There are no "jobs for the boys" in it any more, Paddyann The position of head is one to which anyone at all can be elected by the members.

Elegran Fri 20-Apr-18 19:56:27

Many of them were previously bits of "Empire" and chose to remain, and some chose to leave, but some had nothing to do with that at all and chose to join the Commonwealth - which now does not call itself the British Commonwealth.

Here are Seven things you might not know about the Commonwealth, which have changed since 1950.

Lizzie wants to hang onto it because she and her hangers on all have delusions of empire...jobs for the boys !

Anniebach Fri 20-Apr-18 19:54:58

Never heard of since ? I dreamed I have just watched The Commonwealth Games ?

As a general rule, I'd say anyone condemning something they say they know nothing about, for no reason, is BU. If you know nothing about it, why are you so sure it's long-outdated and irrelevant? confused

I guess the 50 odd voluntary members must see some benefit to membership.

Anniebach Fri 20-Apr-18 19:39:15

They are not our countries, they are countries who choose to be part of the group of 52 countries

AlieOxon Fri 20-Apr-18 19:37:28

.......methinks we had better hang on to all the countries we can.....

I don’t actually know anything about this long-outdated organisation but surely it has no relevance now and is only dear to the heart of our ancient queen?
It’s the sort of colonial ex empire thing we were told about at school in 1950 and have never heard of since.
