The Commonwealth

It is certainly not outdated. It is a highly successful alliance of countries who work together for their mutual benefit. If you want " outdated and irrelevant" look to the UN which has never fulfilled its charter, nor made any useful contribution to the world.

I meant, that having put ourselves in a possibly more isolated position by leaving the EU, we need to keep
countries as friends/allies where possible.....

There are no "jobs for the boys" in it any more, Paddyann The position of head is one to which anyone at all can be elected by the members.

Many of them were previously bits of "Empire" and chose to remain, and some chose to leave, but some had nothing to do with that at all and chose to join the Commonwealth - which now does not call itself the British Commonwealth.

As a general rule, I'd say anyone condemning something they say they know nothing about, for no reason, is BU. If you know nothing about it, why are you so sure it's long-outdated and irrelevant?

I guess the 50 odd voluntary members must see some benefit to membership.

They are not our countries, they are countries who choose to be part of the group of 52 countries

.......methinks we had better hang on to all the countries we can.....
