Thank you to all the brave women who would not be put down and fought for women's rights. Thank you also to the men who supported them.
When I despair of finding anyone worth voting for I remember you. I will always get a ballot paper for general elections even if I feel the need to write none of the above!
I'm not in any way ungrateful to the Suffragists and Suffragettes but feel that drawing on memories of strong women in our families and discussing the achievements of the Pankhursts et al is a more meaningful way of celebrating women's suffrage.
However much we acknowledge and are grateful for what was achieved (together with the timely intervention of WWI) who will see these Thanks? What good will it do? Who listens? What's the point?
Thanks to everyone who fought for us. I would not have been so brave. I always use my vote. Its unbelievable that we are still not treated equally in the 21st century.
Having watched Lucy Worsley's slightly light weight programme about the subject( felt she could have been a bit more cross but perhaps she was going for balance so as not to offend the men). Honestly some women were brutally force fed scores if not a hundred times! I was, however, reminded of what those women went through and as it stood the programme could be used in schools to remind everyone. Thankyou for all that you did! And to any young woman who does not bother to exercise her right.....shame on you!
Thank you suffragists and suffragettes alike. Also, thank you for all the equally brave women who bucked the trend and took on ‘men’s jobs’ against all the opposition.
I don't think I'd have been brave enough to be force fed. But a thank you from me and a poke in the ribs with my walking stick to alll those young women who don't bother to vote.
The Suffragettes and Suffragists complimented each other, although the Suffragetes were getting rather out of hand before the war started. I thank both organisations, especially my nana who went to rallies, marched and considered herself a Suffragist.
As my name implies, I like to think that I would have donned a sash and sallied forth to join with other marchers if I'd been around at that time. I am grateful to those women - and of course, men - who championed the cause of votes for women. So, it's thanks from me too.
Thank you, all you brave, passionate women. I have voted at each election and by-election since I was eighteen years old. My right to vote was hard won and I cherish it. ?
