Scrolling down a thread, I found an ad at the bottom promoting "make up tips for old ladies" ! shock

How very dare they! And shame on GNHQ for allowing it!

Gosh! Thanks for the screenshot

I have spoken to our ad people who are looking at this specific one and have asked me to reassure you this is not intentional and just the way the ads business works. Also if a specific ad does offend you can click on the blue icon on the ad and report it as inappropriate so you don't see it again.

That looks like a GN feature NOT what we're discussing.
I can no longer see it to get a screenshot.
It's a typical popup algorithm driven ad which leads buyers into a scam

My apologies. Didn't notice the offending ad bottom right.

Bottom right? It's definitely an ad. The giveaway is the little blue arrow at the top of it. AND the fact we would never, ever use the term 'old ladies' anywhere on the site!

Please note my apologies at 11.34.
Originally I 'd looked at the wider picture without noticing the offending item in the corner. That is indeed the scam ad!
Would genuinely be interested in knowing just how it "sneaked past you".

So it must occur somewhere between 71 and 73 than. No?
No!!

I just noticed the advert for Vans in the screen shot - middle right

If you don't like being called an oldlady when you are 70 you are kidding yourself. keep on not admitting it but in the eyes of younger generations you are old. If you have not died by the time you are 75 or 80 you have become an old perosn. that's the choice!

Why do people get upset about being described as old? Is it any different from being described as blue eyed or wearing glasses?

If longevity is beginning to approach 90, then we are young for a third of our lives (0 - 29) middle aged for the next 30 (30 - 59) and old thereafter. I infinitely prefer good hard facts to feelings on a subject like this.

Here I am
An old lady
But she isn't me!
She's just what you see!

is my attitude. It's in the eye of the beholder to some extent.

I don’t think anyone objects to older ladies which is accurate but why use old ladies as a description?

Jalima1108 Sat 16-Jun-18 20:27:02

Yes, why?
I'd rather be called 'an old biddy'
wink

fourormore Sat 16-Jun-18 20:52:19

As previously said - you're as old as you feel - that makes me about 300 at the moment grin
I have a Nokia flip phone as I can't get along with the newer swipe type. My granddaughter calls it an 'olden days phone'
Must go now as my bustle and ruff need ironing grin

I’ve got an ad for razor blades now. What should I read into that?

mcem Sun 17-Jun-18 15:34:51

Old Ladies' Make-up ad is back!

goldengirl Sun 17-Jun-18 16:04:21

OldER - I can accept
OLD - definitely not!!!!!
I could tell them where to put their make up - but as an oldER lady I'm too polite wink

mcem Sun 17-Jun-18 18:40:33

Old ladies as reported as a scam.
