Thanks so much for all for your comments. And if I have improved the lives of two Gransnetters with the idea of putting over the door hooks over the top rail of a towel rail, then the post has not been in vain.

OH, oh, I’ve got lots of those over the door hooks. Never thought of using them for towels. I’ve been draping towels over the two sticky up ends of the radiator for seven years.

Is there a possibility that the old shower screen was made with imperial measurements and the new one to metric dimensions?
This is often the case when replacing old plumbing.

I'm with AnnP and the others who can't see the problem? It looks like a static screen to me? not one that swings either way? The only thing I can see is that you can't reach your towel from the hooks?

ann sixty - yes an over the door set of hooks works well to dry and house multiple towels - TKMax has plenty of choice.
kathsue - yes measured up, bought the wrong size - then carried on and fitted it.
Not that long ago my newly retired DH was encouraged to give "cleaning the bathroom" a go. When I asked him why he hadn't cleaned the (old) screen he insisted he had. So we both trooped to the bathroom where I showed him that the screen was really quite smeary. He looked closer "Ah" he said "but these marks are on the other side."
I am guessing they, all three, gave no thought whatsoever to practicalities.

Reminded me of the time years ago my DH was adamant on building a small shed himself, instead of getting a professional in as I had suggested. Only issue - he somehow managed to order the wrong size wood for the roof. It was too small so we had a roofless shed for about a month!

Now I understand. Looks like DH and the 2 men, who measured up, bought the wrong size screen.

I am more impressed by the hook thingy over the radiator than your H's shortcomings.
I must look for one of those, it must be very useful.

LOL To be fair it is an oddly shaped bathroom and the photographer probably did not make a very good job of showing that the gap between the towel radiator and the screen which is extremely narrow (admits a size 12 sideways, just) However, the old shower screen was just perfect. It was in the same position but it was some 4 inches less wide which allowed the screen to swing inwards over the bath. When the screen was closed over the bath, the bath itself could be cleaned by a person (me) without that person having to get into the bath to do so. It also meant that the screen could be cleaned on both sides easily whereas showering off soap scum with the shower hose now would result in flooding the floor AND before it was possible for a person with arms of normal length and normal limited flexibility stepping from under the shower head, to reach and grab their towel on the radiator . OOOOOH I can feel myself getting more bothered about this by the second

ninathenana the showerhead is on the tiled wall that the screen is attached to. It is just out of sight on the right of the photo.

Ha! This does not surprise me in the slightest! Can't leave men alone for five minutes before the house comes crashing down... (I say that in jest, I know not ALL men are incapable!). Once I had to pop to the Coop (a five min walk away) and in that short space of time, my dh had managed to lock himself in the kitchen! I will admit we were having renovations done and the door handle was hanging on by a thread, but still, it made for a very amusing scene!

annep Ha ha. MawBroon - yup there's evidence aplenty Mapleleaf - no they think they have got away with it. Auntieflo - no it hasn't be fixed. It was done on Wednesday and if I point it out to DH, he will doubtless argue that it is not a problem. Our DD (who has seen photos) is planning a visit when she will emerge from the bathroom in hysterical laughter asking if it was the Chuckle Brothers who installed it.

We once had a mirror installed above sink and it wasnt centred. builders excuse? He had lined it up so I could see myself when I stepped out of the shower! lol.

annep, how is the screen door supposed to open, with the taps in the way? Has it now been fixed thuberon?
