Is Jeremy Corbyn holding the Labour back?

As lemongrove says, this push to the far left is hugely unpopular with Labour voters and with those who change their party allegiance between elections. As long as JC and his communist crew are there I am 100% confident that we will never have a Labour government. As I have said before, I keep my ears to the ground and won sizeable bets on Leave and Trump and I feel as confident that JC is a disaster along with his whole front bench. I would abolish unions if I had my way - back in the seventies we nearly lost our house because my OH was called out on strike over nothing important ?

lemongrove, Blair won three elections, but he and the governments he led were never true socialist in any meaning of the word.

I do not know whether the present policies of the Labour movement will gain them victory at the next general election. However, what is good to see is that Labour are once again placing a real alternative in front of the British electorate for debate.

In the above, they have also built a mass political movement of half a million in the labour party and seven million in the total Labour movement.

At the next General Election we will not have it being stated that there is little difference between the two major parties as we witnessed in the 2010 and 2014 general elections. As that election comes about we will have a choice of real dramatic change, or more of the same.

Sadly I think that Corbyn has infected labour so much that if he stood down now we would just get one of his Corbynite cronies taking the torch and he and his type would still hold the reins of labour.

I agree with you notanan I was a born and bred NE labour supporter (an ex member of the LP) but no way could I bring myself to vote for this new communist party in disguise .

I've just nipped over to the other side (Mumsnet) and they've got a thread going there about whether having a Labour party in government would be a good thing or not. I was surprised at how many people said that they would like to see a Labour/socialist party in power again but not with Corbyn at the helm. Several reasons have been given for this including the anti semitism and misogyny rows. Looks like Corbyn's attempts to attract the younger voter isn't panning out to well if Mumsnet is anything to go by.

The Owen Smith fan club - all three of them - turned up with rolled up copies of the Guardian under their arms.

Labour Trotskyites and Militant Tendency supporters of Corbyn were sneaked in through the back door wearing "I am a Moderate Type, honestly" so they were incognito,

The Wild Cat Bar was given over to all those who thought the best Labour policy of the day was a national strike. It was packed.

The group of braying middle class and wealthy supporters (the largest group, because they know what's best for us all) were given seats at the top of the auditorium, commonly known as 'the Gods', but labelled The Ivory Towers for the Labour Party conference.

Oh and members of Labour's hard left NEC were given specially printed, denim-bound copies of The Communist Manifesto, personally signed "With thanks" by Labour's shadow cabinet.

My God, the above "rant" most definitely confirms that the Labour Party must have had an excellent party conference.
