Just seen elsewhere, which reminded me - people who aren't American saying 'bathtub' instead of just 'bath'.

And 'inside of', 'outside of', instead of just 'inside/outside.

Watching a cooking programme right now , what irritates me is when they just squeeze a lemon, orange or lime with their single hand without using a squeezer . I always use a squeezer to get every last bit of juice.

Everything. I even find myself irritating.

Witzend and weather people who say 'evening period or afternoon period' Why not just evening or afternoon ?

tiredoldwoman I have tried that but need to finish it off with a wooden juicer - and it's annoying when they don't scrape the bowl out when baking. Mum used to say 'there's another slice of cake there!.

Jalima we were given the bowl by our mother to scrape out with our fingers the uncooked cake mixture. I can taste it now, delicious. Of course health and Bloomin Safety would put the kybosh on that now.

Not in our house they wouldn’t, NanKate. I always prefer the cake mix to the cake, so make sure there’s plenty left in the bowl. There’s not a scrap left when it goes in the dishwasher though.

People who say 'like' a lot, or who spell mum as 'mom'. We aren't in America!!

People who walk towards you bellowing "Hello!" when they aren't actually talking to you but are on what seem to be invisible phones.

Clarepetal, people who make ludicrous assumptions irritate the heck out of me. I'm English. My mother, aunt and grandmother were all "Mom" or "Mommy" to their children because they came from Birmingham where that was the term in common usage. My father's mother, on the other hand, came from Jarrow where "Mam" was the norm, so "Mam" is how she was known.

Haitch instead of aitch. I/they/he she 'was like' Hair that looks uncombed ( I don't care if it is 'fashion') Straggly bits of hair dangling either side of the face. ( it would drive me dippy! ) Crackly bags in the cinema - why do people feel the need to keep stuffing their faces no matter where they are!
As for people with bags etc on seats either they move them when asked politely or I will.

What a wonderful thread. lizzypopbottle I too wonder what on earth people are doing at traffic lights when they change to green and no one moves! It also annoys me when people dither at roundabouts thus defeating the purpose of roundabouts - to keep traffic flowing!

And hairdressers who ask what product you use - and they don't mean shampoo.

And people whose knee jerk reaction is to counteract what you've just said: 'bit chilly this morning', 'oh it'll be 21C this afternoon' 'Lots of traffic about today', 'oh, I didn't have any problems'. 'The local shop is out of milk at the moment', 'oh I just drink mine black', etc, etc.!

People who say "Awww Bless" when I am having one of those casual inconsequential conversations that keep the world going. I don't think I am prone to childish conversations so why do they think it is OK to patronise me as if I was 5 years old?
My OH saying "Thanks for warning us about that" to EVERY new comedy trailer EVERY time it is shown.
The lady in her 30s who actually raced me to the one elderly/disabled seat on the bus when it was vacated. I was a week before my hip op so I really needed it, now I might be able to beat her.
People in the supermarket (usually men) who are deep in conversation then suddenly step backwards so I have to dodge them and then glare at you as if they should be the only ones shopping.

NOOOOOO! (Though if they are American it's just about excusable I suppose.)

Why on earth would he want cold milk on a bleak midwinter night? Whisky, sherry or brandy only - and at least one mince pie!

Children in pubs and restaurants in the evening, especially ferral ones. Bring back children's rooms or even an adult only separate bar. Also children under 12 in restaurants in an evening unless it's a soft play area for families.

I’m fairly easy going and don’t get wound up about too much. However, I can’t stand the seemingly constant need for background music. I’ve had to leave shops and frequently ask restaurants to turn the volume down so I can actually have a conversation.
