To be shocked by Jeremy Kyle

My DH is addicted to Jeremy Kyle. I have asked him why this is and he just says it is because he cannot believe such people exist. The whole programme upsets me as I feel he is a nasty piece of work taking advantage of people less fortunate than ourselves and unable to help themselves. I have to go and sit in another room and even then I can still hear it.

The couple of programmes I've watched left me amazed that such awful looking men and women could apparently have so many people fighting over them.

Izabella can you translate OTOH please?

I agree with maccy1955 very harsh to refer to people as 'creatures'. The programme is exploitative to an extent but the viewers are just as much to blame for keeping up the ratings. I think the JK programme has helped some people but like all reality programmes it has its downside.

dragonfly Mabon1's normal reaction on a thread is, "if this is your only problem then lucky old you", or a version of it. Maybe he/she has a lot of worse problems that we don't know about, and if he/she let us into the secret we might even sympathise. As it is, whenever I read it I for one can think only what an unpleasant character he/she seems!

Perhaps by the choice of response Mabon1 hopes to inject a sour note into the thread and reduce everyone else's enjoyment of the conversation to his/her own low level?

There is no guideline to stop anyone repeatedly being a miserable git - but there is a very real danger for those with plenty of problems that someone will get so fed up reading the disparaging put-downs that they will answer sharply enough to get their own post deleted, or even get banned.

OTOH... ON THE OTHER HAND.
I do watch it if I'm in. Some people want their 15 mins of fame and some genuinely need and get help.
One serial female guest and off spring AND boyfriends/husbands just drive me mad, if she comes on whilst im watching it gets switched off!
I did recognise someone on there once, I used to babysit him when he was a baby and I was a teenager!! I'd know him anywhere. Still a stroppy little git by all accounts!!!

I think maybe you could be right Elegran and perhaps as a result of ill breeding , who knows hmm

My neighbour and family are going to be on the programme on 4th December.
I tried to persuade her not to do it..

Brigidsdaughter Wed 28-Nov-18 17:42:32

I can't bear that show - and others like it. There are even worse ones. They mostly exploit people who know no better and it's pagronising, public humiliation, etc

I also don't like 'Can't pay, won't pay.'

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 17:46:10

OH no Miss A .....what is the "theme?"

MissAdventure Wed 28-Nov-18 17:50:06

2 of her granddaughters don't get on. (That is the very LEAST of the family's problems) but that is what was focused on for the programme.
I could say a whole lot more, but I won't.
My lips are sealed. (You'll have to watch!)
The show asked the family to make a follow up programme, but thankfully they had come to their senses by then, and declined.

BlueBelle Wed 28-Nov-18 17:57:23

Sorry oldbatty but you may have a wait but everyone has the right to a NHS dentist We certainly have plenty taking on in our area There was a problem a few years ago and there probably will be after Brexit when all the European dentists go home
The problem is these people who are often young and only have a few teeth in their head obviously haven’t looked after themselves and don’t keep appointments strange how they get to the tattooist though
But lie detectors aren’t fool proof by any means Vivne65 that’s why they can’t be used in a court of law as they can be inaccurate

OTOH = on the other hand.

BBbevan Wed 28-Nov-18 18:13:33

Exactly Anniebach

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 18:22:16

Gosh, how awful to be young and hardly any teeth. They are intended to last a lifetime.

MissAdventure Wed 28-Nov-18 18:28:43

I find it just as strange to see celebrities looking like Red Rum when they smile.

MrTumble Wed 28-Nov-18 18:35:48

I do not like J.k or the programme. But my question is how many people would watch it, if they just sat down with a nice cup of tea a chat to sort out their issue. smile

MrTumble Wed 28-Nov-18 18:38:39

that should be nice cup of tea and nice chat to sort out their issue.smile

It can be very difficult to find an NHS dentist who will take on new patients. We no longer have school dentists or the 'nit nurse' - I know, I know, we shouldn't need them but in truth we do. Children whose parents are functioning poorly or barely at all will struggle to do the basics, like feed their children and provide decent clean clothing.

As for Jeremy Kyle - disgusting show. I'm with those posters who say don't watch it and it will be let go by the TV channel. The idea expressed by an earlier poster on this thread, that the powers that be ought to watch it and do something to stop the people on it having children and getting benefits sent a real chill down my spine.

vickymeldrew Wed 28-Nov-18 18:40:22

I believe that drug use, particularly cocaine, damages the teeth.

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 18:41:58

grin grin ( with celebrity teeth ) you really are on top form today MissA

Iam64 Wed 28-Nov-18 18:49:34

Ms V Meldrew, so does neglect and a poor diet.

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 19:05:17

Red Rum.....you are nearly blinded by the dazzle.

MissAdventure Wed 28-Nov-18 19:12:46

I think its because I'm a tad grumpy, gilly.
It hurts my feelings to hear my neighbour (friend) referred to as a creature, because she is one of the only people to have given me kindness, and understanding when my daughter died.
She doesn't have the vocabulary to trot out meaningless platitudes - she actually bothered herself to try and look after me at my lowest.
My opinion is that there are far, far worse than her in the world.
If everyone took a leaf out of her book then the world would be a kinder, more humane place to be.

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 19:17:43

I meant “top form” in a funny /comedy way MissA . Didn’t mean to upset you at all . I’m so sorry .

Often the people who are considered “rough and ready” by many in society are the kindest most helpful people around . smile
