To be shocked by Jeremy Kyle

My DH is addicted to Jeremy Kyle. I have asked him why this is and he just says it is because he cannot believe such people exist. The whole programme upsets me as I feel he is a nasty piece of work taking advantage of people less fortunate than ourselves and unable to help themselves. I have to go and sit in another room and even then I can still hear it.

Bluebell, it can be very difficult to find an NHS dentist.

My sister and I sat there with it on once and just went (at least our lives aren't that crap!)

I suppose that’s one way of looking at it DIL17 grin some of the people on JK probably make my life look almost normal.

I ve sometimes seen bits and bobs I find the lack of teeth very disconcerting when folk on benefits get free dental treatmentment Why oh why not get your teeth sorted
My other big worry is that darned lie detector how many marriages or families have been ruined and the thing isn’t fool proof at all

My DH was born to a Scottish mother and a (broad) Yorkshire father. He has lived on Tyneside for almost 50 years and still can’t speak proper Geordie “like warra dey”

Despite over 20 years of lessons he can’t get the “oo” quite right and replaces Book, school etc for Buck and Scule grin

Yes, that’s right GabriellaG - I think she got much of her research info online. I myself just looked it up online as I couldn’t remember the classes she’d talked about - it came to mind as folks on here were talking about working class.

Quite right..just asked DHL to pronounce barth. He doesn't stretch the "a" as much as I do and he is Glasgow (won't let me say "wegan".

minxie
Anyone watching that rubbish would themselves need therapy...IMO, of course. grin

GabriellaG Wed 28-Nov-18 15:09:07

Lisagran
That exact theory can be found online.

I refuse to watch as find it an insult to my intelligence and I'm not that intelligent before I'm accused of being from an upper class society. .born in bermondsey and proud of it

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 15:01:41

Ah but a Scottish “Barth” isn’t posh at all anniegold wink

(Picturing my late Scots MiL saying it)

anniegold195 Wed 28-Nov-18 14:51:12

I was born and bred in London and have its quite natural for me to say barth and Glaasgow. Hubby the is from there. I love to hear the variety of accents in this country. Live in Yorkshire now and barely understand them at times . Love it.

It is an awful programme. Apparently though he does help a lot of people with rehab And therapy and those people need all the help they can get

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 14:18:09

Thats so sad.

In my previous work, I had a 'client' who went on the JK show. I obviously had an idea of what it was about and didn't want to watch it, but I did (as I thought it might be useful for me to know).
JK broke 2 promises to her (at least as she understood them) - one that she would get her hair and make-up done, and the other that he would not mention a specific illness in her family.
However, sadly, her understanding was so poor, that she said to me ' I wanted to be on the telly, but I didn't realise people [living in my area] would see me'.

Her precarious ability to cope with life deteriorated after that - she felt shamed and knew she had been manipulated.

Trying with great difficulty to fit myself into one of those Lisagran hmm

One of my daughters did an OU essay on Class in the UK last year - she was telling me that (on paper!) there are said to be 7 classes now - Elite, Established Middle Class, Technical Middle Class, New Affluent Workers, Traditional Working Class, Emerging Service Sector and Precariat.

I'm drawn to it on the tv at the gym even though I detest it! Never fails to amaze me how few teeth the participants have in comparison to the number of tattoos. grin

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 13:39:47

dragonfly, take care and never mind some people. I think mabon must have some serious stuff going on for her at the moment.

Buffybee Wed 28-Nov-18 13:34:42

Rubbish tv, never watched it, never will.

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:32:15

Thank you gillybob

missdeke Wed 28-Nov-18 13:24:51

I cannot abide the man, I think he is a pompous, self important creep, (just my opinion of course). He did have another program on where he sat in on people having intimate medical examinations, yuk. I refuse to have him on my tv, if he appears the tv goes off, regardless of the program.

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 13:23:18

Don’t let her get to you dragonfly . I happen to think it’s a great thread . I love to read other people’s opinions on all sorts .

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:20:12

oldbatty got it in one!!

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:19:11

mabon1 was that really necessary. I am at present awaiting the results of a biopsy so no this is not my only problem!! I was just interested to see what people felt about JK
