Is it possible to remove a topic from "I'm on"
Terrible relationship with DIL - am I the problem?
I have spent a lifetime in political debate and other discussions. I think one of the requirements of such discussions is a certain robustness and an ability to use language. But GN is apparently moderated by the snowflake generation who see anything posted that is reported by anyone as controversial, and although they can't delete it, because it doesn't contravene the guidelines, they send out warnings. I think older people moderating the site would do so with more flexibility and less response to those who constantly report. I have had many accusations thrown at me about my politics which I haven't and won't report. So let's have some older moderators on this site who won't find controversial posts threatening.

Is there any hope that after March 29th, Brexit won't be mentioned on any thread, ever again? she asked hopefully, but not optimistically
Could you stick some in mine while you're there, please?
I'm going to lie down in a darkened room and stick pins in my eyes
Don't bother with the dots.
Shall we all say bloody, lots of times?
MawBroon and grannysyb
I don't know but no thread is safe from bloody Brexit apparently.
Please go away and post on the bl..dy Br...t threads, this is NOT one of them
Why has this thread turned into yet another thread about b.....y Brexit?
Yet another thread falls victim to the insidious spread of Brexit.
Is nowhere safe?
Just look at the facts. Just look at the work done on behalf of this pro-brexit government, which has shown that ,beyond a shadow of a doubt, any kind of brexit would leave us worse off than we are at present as full participating members of the EU.
This is not just my opinion,. or the opinion of any other Remain supporting GNetter, it is our government's own analysis.
Why on earth should we settle for a "least damaging brexit" instead of revoking Article 50 and remaining in the EU?
but those of us who are politically engaged and concerned for the futures of our children and grandchildren...
You mean like Gransnetters? All of us?
Would any of us say we didn't give a damn? Can you just accept that we ALL care, and voting LEAVE means we care too?
OK no more from me on this thread regarding Brexit.
I totally agree sodapop and Cherrytree I'd do the thumbs up emoji thing if we had one!
Brexit will make UK worse off, government forecasts warn

Any kind of brexit will leave us worse off than we are now.
That is your OPINION, not a fact.
Unless of course YOU can see into the future?
Interesting illustration of the difficulties of a mods job. One poster mentions a fact and another leaps in saying it's a 'smear'. I'm sure that neither post would be complained about, but if they were, what would e the verdict?
I don't find 'robust' argument offensive but I do think that the mods should act on personal attacks. By which I mean not attacks on a particular 'group' but on individual posters.
Yes it would be nice but the threat of brexit is the most important, and potentially disastrous, political development in our lifetimes.
Of course, we all try to get on with our lives from day to day, but those of us who are politically engaged and concerned for the futures of our children and grandchildren must do everything we possibly can to prevent our country from leaving the EU.
Be nice for brexit to take a back seat in one or two threads, I think.
I do hope that you will soon become older and wiser Cherrytree59 and realise that you were conned, fooled and seriously misled in 2016. That was not your fault. Lots of good folk believed the Leaver's lies and thought that they, their families and everyone else in the UK would be better off after brexit.
Now we know that was not true. the leave campaigners promised something that was un-deliverable - that we could continue to enjoy all the wonderful benefits of EU membership while leaving the EU and paying no more contributions.
We would continue to enjoy peace in Ireland with no hard border, we would have friction-less trade with the EU and of course, with the many other countries in the world which have trade agreements with the EU.
At the same time we would be able to negotiate advantageous new trade agreements with lots of other countries.
It sounds great, doesn't it? I'm not surprised that you and lots of other folk wanted to believe it, but it was a con, a fraud. I'm sorry to say that you were fooled into believing you could have your cake and eat it.
If we have to have a vote on the TM deal, because our MPs cannot resolve this situation, I do hope you will look at the facts which have been revealed in the last three years.
Any kind of brexit will leave us worse off than we are now. So please join us in preventing any more damage to our country/.
Sodapop We can't have a Brexit free thread!
I will nip over to the Whitsuntide thread and ask GNers if they think that this Brexit thingy will be over by Whitsuntide 2019!
It does confirm the findings of 2016 referendum vote analysis that old folk were more likely to have voted Leave
That's another partisan smear Varian It suits your agenda even though on GN I'd say that when Brexit is discussed there are just as many Remainers on threads as Leavers.
Let us not forget, we are a generation of women that fought for equal rights, fought for sexual liberation and many of us went on to further education and professional work lives - as well as raising families. Many of us can hold our own - fight our corner, so to speak.
I find it odd that older women like you need to portray their generation as somehow blinkered, lacking in the thought processes and unable to see beyond their noses because they are now grandparents.. and voted to leave the EU.
Now there is a bit of robust debate for you.
When do you cross the line to becoming old?
I'm still in my fifties (just) and voted leave in 2016.
I read MN as well as GN.
It hasn't crept into the Whitsuntide thread yet MissA !!
Brexit again?
Although I don't like swearing (and I think that tolerance of swearing is probably a generational thing), I am very struck by the contrast between the weight of views on brexit on MN compared with GN.
It does confirm the findings of 2016 referendum vote analysis that old folk were more likely to have voted Leave. I am one of the minority of old folk who voted to Remain and therefore prefer MN to GN.
Asking for a post to be deleted just because you do not agree with the opinions contained therein just shuts down debate
I completely agree GrannyGravy
Differences of opinion should always be acceptable.
I have lots of friends with views different from mine. We don't fall out. We agree to disagree (and 'robust' debate usually follows!)
