The Sussexes & Hypocrisy

Prince Harry said earlier in the week that social media is as addictive for kids as drugs and alcohol. They can be bullied and become anxious and depressed.

Instagram seems to be the worst apparently, although he didn't mention that by name.

However, AIBU to expect Harry and Meghan with all their virtue-signalling, to be less hypocritical? The Sussexes have just set up an Instagram account and already have over 3 million followers apparently !!! Is this not blatant hypocrisy?

Before this, Harry's topic was a climate change lecture to young people while he and Meghan zipped about in private jets for her baby shower and his trip back for Valentine's Day.

I have always been very fond of Harry but since he has become New Agey and got on various soapboxes, they both have had a marvellous chance to practise what they preach..... but are not doing it.

I'm disappointed in him.

Well I do have inside knowledge and yes it is all true.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 19:58:38

Had anyone heard of Michelle Obama before she was the President's wife?
I hadn't actually heard of Barack Obama before he ran for and became POTUS.

Grandmama Fri 05-Apr-19 19:22:11

I'm sorry about the direction in which Harry is going, I fear the worst, he seems to have been swept off his feet.

I wonder what effect their new advisor Sara Latham will have - she was a senior advisor for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and worked for Barack Obama.

The Queen put a stop to Harry and Meghan setting up a sort of separate court.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 19:13:58

The advisor who has worked for the royals for some years was part of the team chosen to work with her when they married, as was a female security officer and a secretary, they have quit

Oh boy, snarky digs at Meghan and Harry!
Enjoy yourselves... you're doing just what the Press want you to do, and that is why they keep raking over the tidbits of these two's lives so that they can find some little morsel to extricate, inflate and serve up to the salivating public, in order to continue selling their wretched rags. Who cares if it's true... the public just lurve Royal gossip.

Must admit to being slightly impressed that some people seem to have an insider knowledge of their life together.

Tantrums; staff turnover; feuds with the Cambridges….

Clearly I'm reading/listening to the wrong media. Where does all this tripe appear?

eazybee Fri 05-Apr-19 18:56:00

I am very disappointed in the conspicuous consumption displayed by the Sussexes, and I certainly don't care to be lectured by either of them.
I hope that when the baby arrives they will develop some common sense.
ps. I hadn't heard of Amal Clooney either before she married George Clooney, but she was an international lawyer with a high flying career.
Had anyone heard of Michelle Obama before she was the President's wife?
Unfortunately, even in this modern world, it is still marriage that gives a woman the best chance of security, if not always happiness.

My opinion only, but Meghan appears to have emasculated Harry.

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 18:33:01

I’m a citizen too Annie.

Absolutely Merlotgran, a very good post.

Calendargirl Fri 05-Apr-19 18:30:35

It's the constant cradling of the baby bump that irritates me.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 18:29:50

I certaintly don’t feel or think I am inferior, I am sorry for anyone who does, or thinks of themselves as ‘a subject’ I am a citizen

merlotgran Fri 05-Apr-19 18:24:29

I'd never heard of Meghan Markle before Prince Harry fancied her. I'd also never heard of Amal Clooney before she married George. These women are now key players on a world stage. Smart career moves.

Of course none of us had heard of Kate Middleton before Prince William started going out with her and she had to endure years of negative comments and taunts before he finally married her. She hasn't put a foot wrong.

I doubt MM would have lasted that long in a relationship without the kudos, position and wealth that marrying a royal brings.

Lucky for her it was a whirlwind romance and a short engagement.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 18:21:44

They're only there to make the rest of us inferior ..subjects instead of citizens
That's odd
My passport tells me I am a citizen. I am no-one's subject.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 18:15:31

So many being sucked into the media circus of Royalty/Celebrity bashing
I do think that, in the main, our Royal Family is good for us as a country and our reputation in the world and was pleased when Harry settled down to marriage and starting a family.
However, I am beginning to have misgivings about some of the decisions they make. Do they run any of this past the Queen first? I'm not sure that she would be happy about all this extravagance in their private lives.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 18:08:17

They both have advisors who are not realising the problems caused by the conflict between what they actually do and how they come across.
Do they take any notice of their advisors?
Yet another one is leaving.

Bridgeit Fri 05-Apr-19 18:00:40

Yes Goodpoint Sparklefizz, But there again I guess we can all be a little guilty of doing this at times.

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 17:54:50

Day6, two good posts.

Mahawthorn, please stay.

Sparklefizz Fri 05-Apr-19 17:53:53

Doesn’t the OP statement apply to all of us,? we may be donators to charities , perhaps some of us give our time, and I bet most of us have a TV, , Car, Computer, mobile, (obvs) holidays, washing machine etc.

No, Bridgeit, it doesn't, because we are not preaching to others to do as we say, not as we do. Yes, I have all those things mentioned above, but I'm not telling other people they mustn't have them.

Say what you like about royals like Princess Margaret, but she never pretended to be anything she wasn't. She unveiled a few plaques and then went off and had a good time. I am definitely not a fan of hers and don't agree with that, but at least she didn't preach.

I don't like the new Harry. He has become a hypocrite and a different person, I'm sorry to say. He was my favourite, and I felt pleased that he'd found someone as I always felt sorry for him when he was the extra one on official engagements with William and Kate. He and Chelsey Davey were together for several years but apparently Chelsey didn't want to live her life in a goldfish bowl with all the limelight. Sadly Harry has now found someone totally the opposite who wants the limelight, in fact seems to crave it, and all the trappings.

Lindaylou55 Fri 05-Apr-19 17:45:54

I used to love Harry, but he really has got on my last nerve since he took up with "that actress" if he wants to flaunt his money he should go back to America with her. Americans will soon get fed up with them too after all she was just a z list celebrity and without the royal family she wouldnt look twice at him.

Bridgeit Fri 05-Apr-19 17:36:51

Good thinking Anni?

Nicea Fri 05-Apr-19 17:36:34

What does AIBU mean? I just don’t understand these coded
abbreviations everyone seems to use on this site.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 17:33:01

If any critism of this couple is bashing then praise could be said to be grovelling ?

lmm6 Fri 05-Apr-19 17:30:03

I like Prince Charles and his stance on the environment. But I went right off Kate and William when they had a third child. They already had one of each. Overpopulation needs to be addressed and soon and they have set a poor example.

sodapop Fri 05-Apr-19 17:19:14

And everyone entitled to their opinion without being told they are 'bashing' someone.

Bridgeit Fri 05-Apr-19 17:11:49

Please stay MawHawThorne perhaps you can inject some positivity ?
