Wimbledon, BBC, taking the....

I agree with the dedicated sports channel, If we end up paying for our tv licence then I think we should at least get a choice NOT to have so much football on prime times. Some of us do not have Sky and as for the commentators saying everyone loves football, tennis, cricket etc I honestly think they are very wrong.

I live in the US and we love to watch Wimbledon. The history and excellence of play is wonderful. We usually have it on NBC and a few others. But, when I want to I just turn it off. I didn't know it drove a lot of you crazy. You should be very proud of what happens in your country each year and that millions around the world love it!

BBC used to give really coverage of equestrian events (not racing) and I really miss those. Now I can't get them on any channel that I can get.

It's about time the BBC had a dedicated channel for sport. They cancel programmes move them around. Some days every channel you look at has sport of one kind or another. There is nothing else to watch.

I went on to Netflix and watched a wonderful film called Maudie. Watch it if you can. i have zero interest in tennis.

Same here Camelotclub, I love the tennis, just once a year and this year has been so good especially with Coco, what a wonderful so very young player and future she has.

I went "cold turkey" on EastEnders (hadn't missed an episode since the beginning in 1985) at the start of this year. I can't do the same when the Brits are playing at Wimbledon or football. Also looking forward to the netball world cup.
But there is no need for wall to wall BBC coverage as there are plenty of other ways for fans to watch.
BTW I have downloaded the Wimbledon app and set it up to notify me when my favourite players are on.

It’s good. Wimbledon this year. Get Netflix get Iplayer to stream on tv. most broadcast stuff is pants so this is exciting ish. And there’s a new girl on the block. And it’s great for females to get so much air time. Cmon Coco

I am sure that those who are hooked on Casualty will survive if they get to watch it slightly later than usual.

I made a resolution a few years ago not to get hooked on any more soaps after they killed off Nigel in "The Archers". It was completely implausible that someone as wealthy as him wouldn't pay someone to go up on the roof. It was a calculated attempt to engage people's emotions so that they'd keep listening to find out how the family coped with it.

IMHO all the soaps do is regurgitate storylines and add a few sensational ones from time to time to keep people hooked - like the teenage grooming story in Emmerdale that I have seen headlines about. They regurgitate the actors as well - some like Sue Nicholls have been in one after the other over the years.

Before everyone is outraged by what I have said I do appreciate that it is useful to bring issues such as domestic violence and grooming to public attention and that soaps are harmless and entertaining for many. Each to their own.

I love all the sports that’s all I watch on BBC if that’s where it is.... I do think BBC should put all their sports coverage on a separate channel though and not mess with normal scheduling as if you don’t like sport it is forced on you, all those wanting to watch sports will head for a dedicated channel anyway as well as subscribing to other providers like Sky sports and BT sports as overall BBC don’t have that much sports in relation to what’s out there on the other providers

Living alone and being more or less housebound I object to tennis and sport being on both BBC channels at the same time for so many hours. There must be many elderly people like me.

Why put it on BBC1 and 2 at the same time, not only that it goes on all night, looking forward to Eastenders and what did i get, womens football,
It's not on,
If they have to have it,put it on a channel that no one watches much, or a dedicated sports channel,
TV is rubbish anyway at the moment, whichever channel you look at and weekend TV is terrible,
Do they think everyone goes out at weekend

Trisher recently my DH took a sneaky photo of me watching a tennis match on the TV and another one with the sound on mute on my IPad. I can certainly multitask where tennis is concerned.

For any tennis fans like me do consider downloading the TennisTv app onto your IPads. I think it costs about £80 a year and I get to watch matches around the world. There is a catch up facility.

As a child I was furious when they stopped children’s tv for Wimbledon, how times have changed.

all to wall cricket. My objection that it's on both BBC channels. Even worse for me was a 4 day county cricket match was being played in my town. It did bring trade to the town so shouldn't grumble

I & 2 showing tennis for hours ,I have no interest in this sport ? is my favourite game also racing but I would not like it on both channels at the same time

And, PamelaJI is quite right, watching Wimbledon from home is cheaper, more comfortable, and you can go to the loo when you want! And if you’re bored, simply TURN IT OFF!
No long journey home, cheaper strawberries and cream, and if you happen to take your eye off the screen, the commentary keeps you up to date.

I usually watch Wimbledon on my laptop via iPlayer. DH can then watch whatever rubbish he wants.

What is the matter with everyone There is hardly any tennis on the TV. See it for what it is. Amazing athletes doing an amazing job they are the gladiators of sport.The matches are awe inspiring and gripping and they rely totally on themselves. Hardly any recovery time after each game totally exhausting. I don’t think that the people who are moaning fully understand or appreciate the game.

Endless football, men or women, I really don’t care, but I love the Wimbledon fortnight, and for heavens sake, it’s only a fortnight!
There are plenty of other things to get angry about, live and let live, I say!

I really enjoy watching Wimbledon it’s only two weeks in the year. You can watch your usual programmes for the other fifty weeks. There are lots of other channels to choose from, relax and enjoy something different you may find a new favourite.

OH and I hate all sport. OH is of the opinion that if WWIII were to erupt, (which Heaven forbid) the news would go something like this:

'Here are the news headlines. We are at war with (the rest of the world or whoever); and now, the Sport, blah blah... for the next twenty minutes'.

Why, oh why doesn't the beeb commission a ruddy sports channel. Then we'd all be happy.
