AIBU - putting dishclothes into the dishwasher

I use j-cloths and yes I do chuck them in the dish-washer along with the scouring sponges. Can't see anything wrong with it. Yes, I know j-cloths are disposable, but they seem to last for ever.

Never do any of that. Chuck them out when they are done! Teatowels go in white wash in washing machine.

I do not have a dishwasher. Not enough room for one, not enough crockery, never seen the point in them. We have never had an outbreak of some horrid lurgy caused by bad hygiene in the kitchen. Whatever people put in theirs is up to them, I have other things to worry about like whether DCFC will win their first game of the season tomorrow.

I boil wash tea towels and towels and my washing up sponges go in the microwave for 2 minutes every other day until I feel the need to change them.

I’m sorry but I am appalled over what some people do! We will leave this planet in a very dire straights. Think of the grandkids.

I'm a bit at anyone washing sponge scourers, if you mean the yellow things with the green backs.

And as for having a bucket of bleach solution always on the go.............

Mine go in washing machine with towels and tea towels 40 degree wash with Persil tablet and a couple spoons of Napisan.

ps I use the cotton ones but have never knitted my own

I throw them into the washing machine with towels and tea towels on 60C.

Chewbacca I saw a recipe once for poaching a whole salmon in the dishwasher in foil.

On occasion our dishcloths have gone into the dishwasher as the very hot wash is supposed to be good, but they do stay wet so I don't do it any more.
They must get rinsed properly .

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself Petra.

I cannot stand smelly or slimy scrunched up things by the sink, (ugh - a pet hate) but my dish cloths and sponges are always kept clean and last longer than a day! No one has died.

I bung mine in a hot wash when I have a pile of tea-towels or towels to put in the washing machine.

We are getting a bit extreme in the clean stakes, aren't we? (Is it a competition?)

It's actually bad for the human race I believe. Children are supposed to be exposed to a bit of dirt to help build up their immune systems, so we're told..

I've never owned a toilet brush. I think they're disgusting. I don't have sponges or scourers for more than a day either

I wouldn't put them in the dishwasher either. I change my dishcloths daily - (they are the cloth ones)sometimes I'll use 3 or 4 a day - and I wash them all on a very hot wash, with a bit of Zoflora disinfectant in with them.

Toilet brushes UGH ! seriously no, they get washed and bleached and replaced if that isn't enough. Blimey they are cheap enough. Omg I've heard it all now.

I stick mine on a 90 degree wash in the washing machine, my dishwasher doesn't have a 90 degree wash and I wouldn't put them in there even if it did.

I'm sorry but I really don't like the idea of lavatory brushes and their containers going in the dishwasher.

I don’t have a dishwasher, so this has never been a dilemma for me.

Someone i know zaps her dishclothes in the microwave!!! She says as long as they are wet not dry they will be steralized by the heat. I must admit to trying this, they do come out steaming and too hot to touch by hand but i still put them in a hot wash in the WM with tea towels.

Our dishcloths get put into the washing machine on a hot wash with towels. We use a silicon scrubber and that goes into the dishwasher.

I used the DW a while ago to clean a load of Lego that had got all dusty in the garage. I put it into one of those net bags for laundering delicate items and away it went. Job done!

I stick all my washing up stuff in a solution of Milton every now and again.

I haven’t put dishcloths in the dishwasher, but do put in the sponges, with scrubby backs, and the metal? pan cleaners.
They go on the top little rack, and come out fine.
Dishcloths go in the washing machine.
