Hello. Ive worked for the same employer for 35 years (lots of changes along the way). My main boss called me up out of the blue in July to say the board wanted me to think about retiring Fast forward 31/10 and its over. Iโ€™ve signed an agreement and got a reasonable payout.
67 years old and loved my job. I had cut down to 3 days per week which was perfect. Still busy still relevant or so I thought. Costs cutting clearly. The point of my post is Im terrified of not working and feel have lost my professional identity. Any advice welcome. First day of a retiree tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜”

I can imagine how strange and scary this must feel after 35 years in the same place. It's not just a job you're leaving, it's a big part of your everyday life. Give yourself time to adjust and don't feel you need to have retirement all figured out from day one. You'll find your feet again, just take it one day at a time.

Lizbeth, I know it will be a big change for you, but it will give you more time to do the things you want, hobbies, travelling. not being woken up by an alarm, and personally, I couldn't wait to retire and have never regretted it , so enjoy doing all the things you never had time for..

Treat it as an extended holiday for the first month or so.

Lizbeth, you are a person not a job. Plenty of time, plenty of scope to do plenty of other things - but give yourself a bit of a rest first, and try not to think about work. Happy landing,
