Is it just me ?
I don’t understand the latest trend for pouting , plumped
up lips which seem to be fashionable with many young ladies .
Some look quite painful, and what happens when they stop having it done ?
And as for sticking out tongues selfies ? .! .... No way !

LadyGracie Sun 08-Dec-19 19:06:46

Yes we wore lots of black eye makeup and back combed our hair, but you could comb it out and wash your face.

These days they’re stuck with their awful pumped up lips and tattooed eyebrows.

Bridgeit Sun 08-Dec-19 19:12:03

That’s so funny BBbevan
Exactly Ladygracie. What happens when they start to age??

FlexibleFriend Sun 08-Dec-19 19:36:58

Nobody is stuck with anything it's all reversible.

welbeck Sun 08-Dec-19 19:42:30

actually i think it's quite sad and troubling, re young womens' notions of themselves.
it reflects the widespread influence of porn, which is so detrimental to womens' dignity.
many girls grow up thinking images and actions portrayed in porn are normal adult personas and appearances.
does anyone remember what mary whitehouse predicted. exactly this. she has been much maligned and misrepresented, and perhaps was latterly associated with some extreme views.
but originally her concerns were valid. she was a secondary school teacher and had some girls ask her about being pressurised by boys to engage in sexual activities when they did not want to. she tried to discuss the issues with them in groups, to build up their self confidence, so that they had the tools to resist the emotional pressure from boys who said, if you really loved me you would....
sounds familiar, and that was the 1950-60s. so that;s how her campaigning started, looking at the influences in mass media, advertising etc, making females into mere sexual objects for men. everyday sexism, harassment etc. despite the women's movement of the late 1960s-, we seem to have gone backwards. consumerism is so rampant.
the pressue on young women to conform to some porn image, to be obsessed with how they look, worry about weight, figure. all this is disappointing in this era.

BBbevan Sun 08-Dec-19 19:54:22

Absolutely agree welbeck Very sad isn't?

Bridgeit Sun 08-Dec-19 20:19:33

Spot on Welbeck .

suzette1613 Mon 09-Dec-19 07:04:48

Good post Welbeck.

But to flippant, ugh, trout pouts, tongues out on selfies and slug eyebrows, most unattractive in my view. I`m definitely getting old!

BlueBelle Mon 09-Dec-19 07:47:22

flexiblefriend not sure I agree with that often when surgery is ‘reversed’ it becomes worse look at poor Katie Prices face and that ‘you spin me round and round’ singer lost his name and can’t be bothered to go and google it , he got so ill from infections and his poor mouth went from bad to worsen
I know I ll remember his name as soon as I press the post button ?

Were none of you foolish when you were young?
We were foolish, but I suspect that the things that we did (pussy pelmets, lots of mascara, beehive hair etc.) were reversible. What makes me shudder about the latest "look" is that it often involves irreversible changes to a young body, in ignorance of the fact that as you mature you might wish you could get rid of it all: plastic surgery for pouty lips, tattoos in general and tattoed slug eyebrows in particular, and piercings that leave scars.

LullyDully Mon 09-Dec-19 08:36:37

My father hated my very long, straight hair. It reminded him of a " keep death off the road " advert apparently.

Ginny42 Mon 09-Dec-19 08:40:20

Oh! In my naivety I thought the pouty lips would eventually go down.

harrigran Mon 09-Dec-19 10:04:33

I can not believe that people want to look like clones of each other. Porn star lips and thick black slug eyebrows ? Do they really believe they are attractive ? Makes me shudder.

marionk Mon 09-Dec-19 10:15:12

And what about those eyebrows ??

Americanpie Mon 09-Dec-19 10:15:34

Most girls look ridiculous with the slug eyebrows and trout lips, my husband laughs out loud sometimes! However the thing that really sets him off are the fake eyelashes that almost cause a breeze. I really can't see that men and youths like this trend.

Kerenhappuch Mon 09-Dec-19 10:19:56

I was once taking a photo of a friend when we were out and about, and without thinking, I said 'Why are you pulling that peculiar expression?', then realised she now has a special face she pulls for photos!

I do sometimes feel sad when someone is in the news for bad reasons, like having gone missing, and the reporter has obviously pulled their photo from Facebook. So alongside a sad and worrying story, you have a picture of someone pouting with their tongue stuck out.

Mind you, I can't pout to save my life - yes, I've tried!

acanthus Mon 09-Dec-19 10:22:53

What gets me is those ridiculously long, painted fingernails (or should I say talons?) which so many people have nowadays - young and old. I don't know how much nail-bars charge for these procedures, but I do raise a non-slug eyebrow when mothers are interviewed on TV complaining they can't afford to feed their children yet sporting the full works of make-up, painted eyebrows, piercings, tattoos and said talons. Very weird.

DotMH1901 Mon 09-Dec-19 10:30:39

Trout pout lips don't look good on anyone - why would you want your mouth to look like a baboons' bottom?? The brows are okay when properly done, the heavy black ones do look dreadful, especially if combined with the trout pout lips! Not to mention the contouring make up! Even as a teenager I wasn't into make-up, mascara and a tinted lip salve was about the most I wore. Hopefully the trout pout is on the way out now - some 'stars' have had painful operations to have fillers removed!

Alexa Mon 09-Dec-19 10:31:18

I agree, Welbeck generally although not about Mary Whitehouse.

The best way to protect boys and girls from porn is to give them knowledge about the porn industry , and more importantly to teach them how to develop independent thinking and judgement.

Trout pouts sooo old hat even slug eyebrows seem to be on their way out, look forward to see what happens next!

maddyone Mon 09-Dec-19 10:41:52

I don’t like the trout pout look either, but I believe these fillers will gradually dissolve and be excreted by the human body. However I think that takes several months and it’s likely that the girls have them topped up rather let them disappear. At least they are temporary though.

annodomini Mon 09-Dec-19 11:25:37

Remember Leslie Ash of 'Men Behaving Badly'? She had her lips enhanced to the extent that it all went badly wrong. A first collagen implant wasn't enough for her, but a second procedure resulted in 'extreme swelling' of her lips. The press was full of it at the time. Her experience should have served as a horrible warning but there's a new generation of girls who have never heard of her.

jannxxx Mon 09-Dec-19 11:48:44

fashion i suppose i feel sad most of them all want to look the same, i was never one to follow fashion, although i did have platform shoes back in the day and wore flowers in my hair in the 60s, its the same with the sharpie eyebrows, saw a young girl yesterday she would have been stunning if it were not for the sharpie eyebrows that did take up most of her forehead, and her trout pout, looked like shed been smacked hard with a iron skillet, i personally cant see the beauty in it, but they do so suppose its up to them

Chestnut Mon 09-Dec-19 11:54:28

When I see these young women on TV they all look the same to me. I think they look like Barbie dolls that have come off a production line. Their real faces are gone, and surely that makes finding a suitable partner all the more unlikely.

GrandmasueUK Mon 09-Dec-19 12:39:06

In my local supermarket, there was a young family. The father was body-builder muscular, with a man bun and beard, his wife was very slim with pumped up lips and infeasibly round high bosoms under a low-cut t-shirt. Their young son had one of the trendy hairstyles but did look quite smart. I did wonder what he would think of the shape of 'ordinary' women when he grew up. I had to stop myself from staring at her myself! shock
