Just walked past Waterstones and I see she now has a book out, what about all the trees that are cut down to print it.
Angela Rayner cleared by HMRC. What a coincidence!
Well deserved IMO, we need more & more people to get on board with this.
I for one am not as aware & as active as I should be with regard to what I buy & what I throw away , recycle etc ,etc
Listening to her speeches & efforts helps me to remind me that I could to do better.
Just walked past Waterstones and I see she now has a book out, what about all the trees that are cut down to print it.
Lots of comments - how many of us achieved at 16 what she has? How many of us talked to world leaders at 16 and made them listen. How many of us could do it now with all our worldly wisdom?
Tigertooth untrue - our development means we have made a large share of the problem and our outsourcing of manufacturing to developing nations perpetuates this
All of you who are dissing a young activist should listen to yourselves. Would you like to hear someone talking about your child like that? You sound like would - be trolls.
I thought dinosaurs were extinct but there seems to be a few on here!
If every country worldwide did what we already do then we could avert this crises - we on our little isle are not the cause, and cannot be the solution.
No one can deny that human activity is degrading the planet and the oceans leading to pollution and the loss of species at an unprecedented rate. Action must be taken now By governments and businesses, it can’t be done by grans just doing a bit of recycling
Sarahelenwhitney - Greta appears to give more thought than you do, she references the science but you think climate change not manmade!
Excellent points, Mollygo- Trade has negatively impacted the planet- I'm in the US and am a constant complainer about what wee little choices we have when it comes to purchases- We can buy an item at the store from China, or China, or China- Inferior deal that they are now asking even more for due to tariff wars-
In my view this young person is getting attention on the world stage however the sad fact is that the big players like the USA China Russia and the like won't commit to massive reductions in greenhouse gases so without these leaders fulling their fingers out their asses to me it all seems academic and maybe when the damage is totally irreversible they will realise they are to blame.
fast getting rid of my plastics. i can get washing powder in boxes .yes !!!!! battery lights on the christmas tree (rechargable) smiles ....got some plastic left for microwave...but thats going too soon. my church is buying me a microwave with oven because i asked the congregation if anyone had a spare one. and the church said they would buy me one.PRAISE THE LORd AND THE CHURCH FOR ITS KINDNESS.
I listened to a broadcast this morning which said that it was important to look at your carbon spend. According to the broadcaster, countries like China, India, the US etc. may have a big carbon footprint, but countries e.g. in Europe that buy things from those countries are contributing to the carbon usage so can’t just sit back and criticise them whilst feeling they themselves are doing well. There was actually praise for Trump (surprisingly) for attempting to bring manufacture of products back to the US instead of buying from overseas.
crazyH
Have to agree about 'the eyes' quite disturbing.
When this young lady airs her views I wonder if she gives thought to what brought on climate change millions of years ago that saw the extinction of all forms of life. No aircraft travel then ,no mobile phones and many other items that make up todays lifestyle.. Can she be certainly sure ?that climate change today is taking place any sooner than what it did millions of years ago.
Who is here to confirm ? certainly not Ms T.
Plenty of people around the globe go about their work of saving the earth and go unnoticed- The very same people that Greta blames- The people who without their dedication and research, Greta would have no message to generate and share with nations around the globe- And her separation of generations doesn't do much in the area of unity-
TIME has magazines to sell- Greta is an internet sensation- It makes financial sense-
God, how can you be "pampered" on small sailing yachts crossing the Atlantic?
She looks healthy enough to me. More so than some of our bloated lot.
Both sides of the fence here. I totally agree that she is not OK as a person - undernourished yet pampered. BUT she is giving the issue of how mankind is using up earth's resources a higher profile and making some who've not thought about these things yet, wonder what the fuss is about. Those of us who were environmentally aware many years ago need all the help we can get.
You have to remember, when she was "snarly", she was in the US with Trump in the audience.
I hope you lot who complain about Greta's eyes (Her eyes? What's the matter with you people, FFS) are never on a jury. I can just see you: "He's got a guilty look about him.." etc.
Absolutely it's well-deserved. I've also heard that she's being considered for some sort of Nobel Prize. Good for her! Wish I had her guts.
That's what they say, that wisdom comes with age- Yet it's the very same people that buy into what one person says and by doing so create even more of a mess-
Is there a climate crisis? Absolutely- Is Greta informative? Absolutely- Is she also critical, snarly, condescending and smug? Absolutely- And she just won an award for it-
And they say wisdom comes with age - many grans on this thread prove otherwise, dishing up snarky-ness wrapped up in faux concern for Greta’s well-being. Listen to the message don’t just shoot the messenger.
Will she upon her 18th birthday shame, scold and hold herself accountable for stealing her own future?
What a lot of unpleasant old women. Patronising a child who is stating the obvious inconvenient truth about climate change. The comments that most enrage me are those that say “I / someone else / have been saving the planet for years” - all I can say is “well, that worked out well, didn’t it?”. The planet will continue but what Greta and those she has inspired say is that humanity will be f-cked if we don’t act, not just little folk but the countries and the corporations. We are at a cliff edge and she is highlighting that. She doesn’t need to have all the answers (and boy, wouldn’t the patronisers hate her even more if she claimed to), she constantly references the science and the scientists...
Ouch! There's some real bitchiness on here. Why? What are you afraid of, you nay sayers?
This young girl has put her head above the parapet for something she believes in, and lo and behold she is shot at!
What is the point of the bitchy comments? Do you just want the worry about the climate crisis to go away and you can return to your comfortable lives without any personal guilt or shame?
Or do you seriously think we should leave it all to the politicians and world leaders and that a young girl has no right to speak!
Patronising piffle. In fact I actually think some of you are hoaxing for the fun of it!!

I'm trying not to be cynical here but is it any surprise that the award is given by a media organisation (The Times) which obviously gets great mileage from her exposure?
