Apparently, The Body Shop are sponsoring a display this year at the Chelsea Flower Show, as a feminist space, with plants and sculptures echoing the 'curves of the female form'.
What they have come up with, is a large sculpture of 'women's bits' with a few plants in front.
Call me old fashioned!
But I think this sort of thing is offensive and pathetic and am surprised that the RHS is 'enthusiastic and supportive' about it.

They don't seem to do the same for male genitals, for some reason that would be considered obscene.

Now that's quite funny Paperback.
Why has this caused such a fuss in the 21st century confused and why the concern about the queen's response. Her queenly anatomy must be similar to other mere mortals.

It is stupid and unnecessary. And in today's climate, where if one person is offended by something then it has to be stopped, surely the number of people on this group alone who object and are offended is enough to get this stopped. It's the exact opposite of woke, politically correct or whatever the hell else people talk about in this mad world. Is anyone tech-savvy enough to start one of those on-line petitions to get it stopped? I'll be the first to sign.

I don’t have a problem with it,but to be fair I haven’t visited the Chelsea Flower show and as an indifferent gardener am unlikely to do so!
I have enjoyed this thread though?

grin

Looking forward to some birds landing on it and someone shouting, oh look - THRUSH.

whywhywhy Sun 26-Jan-20 10:20:20

I like the idea. What is wrong with the female shape? Oh come on you prudes, lighten up and enjoy! A nice scented Bush in the appropriate place, ? x

As for pudendum, feels like we're back in the pastgrin

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 10:18:30

These different euphemisms have made me chortle- my young granddaughter (6yrs) calls it her 'minnie' (goodness knows what she thinks when minnie mouse is on tvhmmgrin)

Whatever next..

This reminds me of the display the local college's A-level art group had some 20 years ago when my daughter was doing her exams. One student had produced quite a graphic 3D model of the moment of birth using a doll and lots of red paint. To me, it was very medical rather than artistic and obviously shocking since I remember it. I wondered whether its purpose was to shock! I couldn't understand why it had been given an A grade as it wasn't well executed. So, I wonder whether the purpose of this display is just to shock. Each to his/her own ......
Incidentally, I'm allergic to roses (romance flower?!), and have told DH if he ever gives me any I will take it he is suing for divorce.......tbwink

Cid24 Sun 26-Jan-20 10:11:01

I think it’s horrible

Nicolaed Sun 26-Jan-20 10:08:36

The world has gone mad! A TV show about "bringing back the bush" is to hit the screens soon; An actress with her "aromatic candles" and now this! It's disgusting or is it just courting extremes to gain publicity?

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 10:08:30

Its The Body shop exploiting our female form that is offensive! I cant believe its been backed by Royal horticultural society to be honest.

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 10:05:16

Its NOT offensive Theoddbird! But its not something to be made fun of in wink wink euphamisms by shops/ companies wanting extra advertising either,is it hmm

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 10:01:59

I think the Body shop And Gwyneth Paltrow are both desperate for money and advertising.hmm

grannygranby Sun 26-Jan-20 10:01:38

Title is so twee! Cringeworthy. Whenever the word ‘lady’ is used, be warned. For example Judy Chicago didn’t call her iconic piece the ladies dinner party. ?. Call it the enchanted garden or something. Embarrassingly euphemistic nudge nudge wink wink

Theoddbird Sun 26-Jan-20 09:59:10

Why is the female form offensive?

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:57:35

Im waiting to see when Danny Dyer slips the rhyming slang into eastenders(oh,itl be when the chelsea flower show is on wont it?grin).Hilarious.

GagaJo Sun 26-Jan-20 09:56:32

Yes! sarahcyn, now THAT would make it really worthwhile.

Exactly, Nannan2. We are a lot more than our vag (Sorry! Vulva/pudendum). The things in my body that gets the most work are the brain and my bl**dy nerves, nevermind me lady garden.

Littlesuisei Sun 26-Jan-20 09:55:05

Nannan2 - my thoughts exactly!!! shock

Summerfly Sun 26-Jan-20 09:54:11

BEECHNUT and NANKATE. ???

Lizbethann55 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:54:09

I think it is horrible. We know what our bits look like we don't need a sculpture in a garden festival to show us. And all this nonsense about the Body Shop always being "irreverant" and "always wanting to disrupt the norm". Since when? They sell nice smelling stuff in plastic bottles. I suspect the Body Shop is struggling and is trying to up its profile.. Is there going to be a garden with a penis and testicles next to it? Then a garden designer can highlight "what makes men different from women".

Littlesuisei Sun 26-Jan-20 09:53:46

grin I see my emojis failed to work!!!confused

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:52:42

Theyve certainly not put much thought into it?- "oh its about women so lets just use the lady bits then!" Is not very original,or modern, its probably set us back at least a couple of centuries i think.hmm
