The Lady Garden

Apparently, The Body Shop are sponsoring a display this year at the Chelsea Flower Show, as a feminist space, with plants and sculptures echoing the 'curves of the female form'.
What they have come up with, is a large sculpture of 'women's bits' with a few plants in front.
Call me old fashioned!
But I think this sort of thing is offensive and pathetic and am surprised that the RHS is 'enthusiastic and supportive' about it.

Personally I think the pic of the " lady garden" is utterly horrible ( laugh)
I would like to thank you all for cheering me up with some witty remarks though (smile)! I particularly like the Cockney rhyming slang.....and ANY reference in jest to GP vagina scented candles is so funny ( laugh)!!!!

It’s not shocking.
FGM is shocking.
If they’d done a garden referring to THAT I’d be impressed.

No male equivalent as its promoting body shop and its founders are women.it says in the link sent by Seadragon.

hugshelp Sun 26-Jan-20 09:46:39

I'm all for celebrating the human form, our bodies are pretty wonderful things when they're working, and I think it would do society good to be more relaxed and open about them in their natural form.
However, I don't think this is about that, but like everything else these days is over-sexualised. This isn't celebrating the whole female form it's a grubby bit of porn in plant form done to sensationalise and commercialise. Yuk.

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:45:58

Yes,now I've read it Seadragon,it does scream 'advertising for the body shop' at me! (And do the 'young trendies' who've removed all hair call it their 'lady' as they've no 'garden'?just wondered...)gringrinwink

Moggycuddler Sun 26-Jan-20 09:42:46

It's ugly and horrible. I'm no prude but can't see the point of this. And why no male equivalent ?

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:38:11

I agree with Kartush.grin

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:36:14

So are they saying were only 'empowered' by using of our lady bits?hmm

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:34:06

We didnt want to look,Buffybee posted the pic of it!grin

Cossy Sun 26-Jan-20 09:33:56

I thinks it’s quite hilarious, utterly tasteless and a bit ugly and boring ! Come on, at least be a bit more imaginative !! thistlef

seadragon Sun 26-Jan-20 09:31:28

Had to check this out. It seems to be genuine and even more questionable in the press release which I also opened:
www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/the-lady-garden

Kartush Sun 26-Jan-20 09:27:27

Hmmm there is no body part on me that looks like it has a screaming skull peeping out of it.......that’s what the proposed picture looked like to me. I agree there is nothing shameful about female genitalia but I really don’t want to see it on a wall, nor would I want to see an anus or a sculpture of the inside of someone’s nostril.

MissAdventure Sun 26-Jan-20 09:25:30

Apparently all the plants used are ones traditionally associated with women's health, too.

Nannan2 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:24:46

??? They've gone quite mad just to pretend the chelsea flower show is still interesting in the 21st century! Its not- unless you're a keen gardening enthusiast,or the Queen.Goodness knows what she will make of it,probably be embarrassed but still try to say something 'supportive' whilst trying to pass by quicklygrin

Notthatoldyet9 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:22:41

The vagina is not dirty or offensive and plants are beautiful
If it means conversations about smear tests and female genital mutilation are not considered offensive i am all for it
If to don't like it don't look

275men Sun 26-Jan-20 09:14:05

They should do a post-menopausal vagina - represented by dried up and shrivelled plants. That would teach everyone to be aware and tend to themselves properly ❤️

Aepgirl Sun 26-Jan-20 09:11:18

Yes, it might get people talking, but it’s really hard to get tickets for the CFS so they don’t need to attract more people.

PageTurner Sun 26-Jan-20 04:48:33

I don't get it ? Is the Lady Garden supposed to be the flowers around the tree, or the ugly thing on the back wall?
The designer has a weird imagination.

Pudding123 Sat 25-Jan-20 23:22:04

It also has sprouted on my top lip..

Pudding123 Sat 25-Jan-20 20:18:23

At 65 mine has gone from lush and dark brown to sparse and grey is this normal?

BBbevan Sat 25-Jan-20 18:22:23

Mine has box blight

M0nica Sat 25-Jan-20 18:04:08

I am not boasting. I just didn't realise it would change as I got older

It is not a subject I have ever devoted any thought to, until this thread. So it quite educational.

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 17:35:57

Reminds me of Morning Glory a bit, although perhaps I shouldn't say that in the same breath.

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 17:34:41

That is very pretty flower Nanthewiser, apart from anything else.

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 17:32:53

I don't think I've ever heard anyone boast about their pubic hair before. ?
