Just been announced that PC has been diagnosed with Coronavirus,
AIBU to hope he will receive some empathy from the general public.

Some people just will never get it and I share Paddyann's frustration.
No human life is more important than any other on this planet. No, I wouldn't like to see him passing the virus. Silly question. And I hope he recovers soon.
However six of my family are ill at the minute, including 3 GC and one son, and they will never know for sure if they have it unless they are ill enough to go to hospital. They may be worrying unnecessarily about passing it, staying off work and isolating for nothing. And I am worrying about them too and whether my daughter and other son will become ill..
I am not the only person in this situation.
Why should Charles get tested and not them?

My last post. Waste of time. Huge sigh of exasperation.

No MawB that’s not what I’m saying. I’m say why did the NHS provide testing for Charles with mild symptoms and Camilla with none when they don’t have resources to test their own front line staff. And no I wouldn’t rather he passed it on to the Queen but I don’t understand your point on that. He either has or hasn’t passed it on to his family. The test won’t affect that outcome and his family are already isolating in their residences. I heard on news today there is an ICU consultant with symptoms who is now in isolation with his family for 14 days not knowing if definitely covid 19 as he has no access to testing. He may feel well in a few days but cannot return to work where he is desperately needed. If he could be tested and confirm it wasn’t covid 19 he could resume work asap. But instead he must be out of action for 14 days. I truly wish PC well and hope he makes a full recovery and hasn’t passed it on. But testing them was a waste of Nhs resources that won’t influence his outcome. He is in isolation with his own doctor in attendance.

No, not at all. I'm merely pointing out that Prince Charles is self isolating in comfort, with a host of people caring for him and a private medical team on call.

merlotgran Wed 25-Mar-20 21:30:12

Everyone who has coronavirus deserves our sympathy, Patsy70, including Prince Charles.

It was headline news because he is the heir to the throne. He may be in Scotland now but he saw the Queen before he left London. That's why there is concern.

Chewbacca Wed 25-Mar-20 21:29:50

Shall we save our sympathy for those who really need it?

anyone who has this wretched virus deserves sympathy, surely? Or is sympathy in short supply like loo rolls and hand sanitizer now? hmm

Anniebach Wed 25-Mar-20 21:27:26

Charles could not speak out Grannynanny, it would be political.

Patsy does sympathy have to rationed ?

Patsy70 Wed 25-Mar-20 21:19:14

I don't think he would have passed it on to the Queen, Prince Philip or the Cambridges, as he and Camilla are in Scotland. I hope he makes a full recovery, and that none of his staff get the virus. I do wish, however, that it wasn't the first item on the news, as so many, many people are suffering from the effects of this, with no family or friends to take care of them, and with very little income, living in accommodation with limited room for isolation. Shall we save our sympathy for those who really need it?

MawB Wed 25-Mar-20 21:09:36

Are you saying Grannynannywanny that one person was deprived of a covid19 test because Prince Charles was tested?
Would you rather he passed it on to the Queen,Prince Philip, and the Cambridges?

I don’t think it works like that.

Chewbacca Wed 25-Mar-20 20:56:21

I would say the same to PC as I would for anyone else who is affected by the virus: I wish you well. He's a human being, same as the rest of us

paddyann your prejudice seems to be getting stronger and louder by the day. Not nice to witness.

Grannynannywanny Wed 25-Mar-20 20:49:01

ExD it was the Nhs in Aberdeen who provided the testing for Charles and Camilla. It wasn’t done privately. So for that reason I think those of us who have family risking their own lives selflessly caring for acutely ill covid-19 patients are rightly disgruntled. They are denied access to tests and are pleading for efficient personal protection equipment. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Charles would step in to the limelight and fight their corner

ExD Wed 25-Mar-20 20:24:42

Why get into such a state about PC getting special treatment? I don't suppose for one minute he'll be using the NHS, he'll have private health treatment that he pays for, just like members of the public can have private health care if they choose (and can afford it).
If he chooses to spend his money that way he's entitled to get the cover he's paid for.
Good luck to him, I hope he soon recovers.

Callistemon Wed 25-Mar-20 20:19:02

Yes, annep

As de jure Deputy Head of State and Deputy Head of the Commonwealth it was necessary.

Anniebach Wed 25-Mar-20 19:56:24

No it isn’t fair but it’s hypocritical to criticise someone for
having the test but would accept it oneself

annep1 Wed 25-Mar-20 19:38:48

He owns it Anniebach unlike his tenants in Cornwall. But then you don't have any views on that......
Who would refuse the test Anniebach ? No one. But that's the point. People with mild symptoms arent offered the test, unless your "special " obviously. Different rules. Is that fair?

Oldwoman70 Wed 25-Mar-20 19:37:26

Do I take it paddyanne if you had been in contact with someone who was later found to have tested positive and you were offered to be tested - would you refuse in order that someone else could be tested instead?

Anniebach Wed 25-Mar-20 19:13:08

There must have been staff in his home before he arrived so if
any staff are infected it’s possible they were the staff already in
his home.

SueDonim Wed 25-Mar-20 19:06:05

Do stop shouting, Paddyanne. hmm

Anniebach Wed 25-Mar-20 19:04:59

It is his home, he owns it, he does not own Clarence House, that is his place of work.

paddyanne Wed 25-Mar-20 19:00:05

The advice SHOULD apply to everyone ,STAY at home ,this isnt his home and he took an RAF flight and brought infected staff with him .What part of that is right? I really cant abide royalty ..but I would feel the same about anyone who behaved this selfishly ,moving to an area where services are limited and may well be needed for locals .
Its not as if his main home is in an overcrowded suburb ,the man 's an entitled eegit .

Anniebach Wed 25-Mar-20 18:56:42

Who would refuse the test ?

annep1 Wed 25-Mar-20 18:55:10

He gets the same sympathy as anyone else who has it from me.
But why he should get tested with mild symptoms and people I know with much worse symptoms don't get tested is totally wrong. And the RF know this and accept the special treatnent. Sense of entitlement! !

Txquiltz Wed 25-Mar-20 18:54:25

Ridicule serves no purpose. Human dignity hopes for recover be it pauper or prince.

SueDonim Wed 25-Mar-20 18:48:22

My informants were wrong, in that PC does seem to have arrived here on Sunday and not earlier. He does spend a lot of time in Scotland, though, he & Camilla are always popping up in the local community. Scotland’s CMO has said his access to testing was as a result of clinical guidelines.

Oh, and staff from Balmoral were seen shopping in their local Coop. No Waitrose up here! Or Tesco. Or M&S. Or Sainsbury’s. grin

Callistemon Wed 25-Mar-20 18:35:18

What is it that makes this so difficult to absorb?!!
Sheer blind prejudice Jabberwok!!

Grannynannywanny Wed 25-Mar-20 18:33:08

It’s just been said on BBC news he arrived on Sunday night, already displaying symptoms. I hope his symptoms remain mild and I wish him a full recovery. I also wish the same for his sizeable household staff who may also be infected after being in contact with HRH
