Can you bear the thought of being touched again by a stranger

Ive had a text this morning from my massage therapist saying she’s hoping to be up and running again by July , I’m not sure how i feel about it, any thoughts anyone

It’s a personal thing. I understand exactly why some therapists are eager to get back to work, but if it doesn’t feel right for you, I wouldn’t go. I have some dental work that needs doing really soon but I’m still not keeping my June appointment. I also have regular body work therapy and won’t be resuming that for a few months either. I just wouldn’t relax in either situation so don’t see the point.

Not worried at all being touched by one and all within reason, especially professionals. However I will desist from the traditional French Bises for sometime yet. That will also save time!

Not a huggy person in the first place but GC are the exception they can hug me anytime . Not much chance of this in the near future as we live in different parts of the UK.

Although I’m quite touchy-feely with family, I’ve never been a fan of huggy-kissy stuff with friends, unless very close, let alone relative strangers.

Being mauled about by strangers has never appealed, so I’ve never wanted massages - dds know very well never to give me spa day vouchers as gifts. And I hate anyone touching my feet, so I always do my own pedicures anyway - which reminds me, it’s time for another! Exposed, unkempt-looking feet are one thing I do try to avoid.

I'm looking forward to seeing the dentist and getting my teeth sorted, hopefully once and for all but not the procedure itself IYSWIM. I've had a gum full of ironmongery for months and need the implants fitting. Thankfully not in pain and there are plenty in my position or worse off.
The hairdresser - in time. My hair which was in a pixie style grew out and really lost its shape so it was out with the dressmaking scissors and if I say so myself it doesn't look too bad but needs a professional to shape it properly.
Touching and feeling cared for is perhaps more important than we realised and we didn't know we'd miss it until it wasn't allowed - but can we ever go back to what it was?

How quickly some of you have been conditioned
I cant wait to see friends and have a hug I can live without but I felt strange yesterday going for a walk with a friend and not having a hello or goodbye hug, some friends I don’t hug indeed one of my best friend is not a hugger and you soon realise who is and who isn’t
Ita not just about hugs though I m so looking forward to putting a hand out to touch an arm or give a hand to someone struggling or touch a child’s hand Touch is incredible important and I fear for little children learning not to touch, it could be damaging for life
sueH out of curiosity which country do you live in ?

I've been regularly going to my podiatrist and physiotherapist all through this as they have been operating as usual here. I have no issue with seeing either, both take, I believe, good precautions and IMO the benefit outweighs the risk.

I'm not at all worried. For all this time, I haven't personally felt worried that I might get Covid-19.

Did my toenails very badly the other day. Hope I can get them done properly in a couple of months. I was given a facial and massage voucher by DH at Christmas, luckily they don't expire until December, will definitely use them by then.

Thanks everyone

A couple of years ago I had an echocardiogram. it was done by a tiny Malayan technician. I was stripped to the waist and he literally had to crawl all over me to get a complete picture. It struck me that I had never had such sexless contact with a man!

I thoroughly enjoyed the hug I shared with the consultant after DH died!

Very dark purple nail varnish?

I’ve actually found some at the bottom of a drawer, janea! Much to my own surprise!

I’ll check if my podiatrist’s open again before I slap it on.

I am not a touch-feely person, so if hugging strangers never happens again it is OK with me. And as for having my feet touched - I can't stand it! I even hate doing my own.

Kalu Thu 28-May-20 16:13:13

I have been doing some stretch exercises, mainly stretching down touching my toes. I’m just about there in an effort to do my toenails?

sharon103 Thu 28-May-20 16:01:34

You can make your mind up in July if she opens up. See what the situation is then. You've still got a month yet to decide.
I think I'll been picking and choosing where I go for the rest of this year though.

GrandmaMoira Thu 28-May-20 15:49:47

Podiatrists/chiropodists have been allowed to open for the last couple of weeks. Mine phoned me to ask if I wanted an appointment.

janeainsworth Thu 28-May-20 15:42:55

Maggie Very dark purple nail varnish?

Maggiemaybe Thu 28-May-20 15:40:08

I can’t wait to see my podiatrist when that appointment to sort out my ugly black toenail can be reinstated. I was hoping to have feet fit to be seen this Summer. Not that many people are going to have to suffer it.

grandMattie Thu 28-May-20 15:25:26

I liked being hugged and “mwah” kissed by those I love. Not sure with people I don’t know (ditto for total strangers calling me by my first name).
Curiously, my chiropodist is coming to me tomorrow, rather than me going to her. First time in ???? months. Toenails a disgrace.
Other than that, no, I don’t mind bumping into people or whatever... As long as my personal space isn’t invaded.

harrigran Thu 28-May-20 15:16:12

No way, I am not even hugging DH, and I won't be shaking hands with anyone other than my consultant who is scrupulous with his hand washing.
I am sitting on my terrace watching the neighbours totally disregarding any distancing.

allium Thu 28-May-20 14:57:23

No problem, will go to hairdresser as soon as they open. Would go the beauty therapist too.

May7 Thu 28-May-20 14:54:24

Ha ha chewbacca I feel exactly the same about NYE.

Chewbacca Thu 28-May-20 14:50:12

Without the risk of being hugged and kissed by complete strangers, I just might consider going out on New Year's Eve again.

Sardinia2020 Thu 28-May-20 14:32:33

I wonder whether people will ever get back to shaking hands? Certainly doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

Newatthis Thu 28-May-20 14:00:41

What about those still on the dating scene - I think this is a little bit scary for those. I wouldn't like to start a new relationship at the moment.
