I'm not surprised. It was surely coming.
I wish pubs had never opened, I wish gatherings had not been allowed, I wish all holidays abroad had been banned etc. etc.
But we have a generation here who would have revolted because they feel they are so entitled. Very few under 35s are going to do as they are told, that doesn't exist any more and the government knows it.
It is what it is, I shall continue to be careful, but I'm not sure I could do Chritsmas without our family together.

Ellianne, I’m same as you and I’m certain I can’t do Christmas without my family. Hope we get our Christmas wish and are able to see some of our family especially our grown up adult children and grandchildren.

It is reasonable to suppose that this rise in their age group is related to their activities.

We need a prime minister who can grow a pair. One who can be honest and not scared to make a decision whether it is liked or not. All these months of mixed messages, U turns and unclear advice. Is it any wonder that people are doing what they want. Masks should be mandatory - end of. No excuses.
Two seeks ago was Bank holiday when all the beaches and pubs were crowded and now we have the rise in cases. No surprising really.

I’m the same as you Ellianne, I can’t do Christmas without my family. We’ve been careful and only formed a bubble with my son, his partner and 2 children. We are a family of 3 as we have a 10 year old adopted son. We do look after my sons 2 granddaughters while parents are at work, otherwise how do they go to work. They work weekends so we have them Saturday and I have the youngest one 1 day a week as the older one is at nursery. My husbands son, wife and daughter don’t visit often. Although she’d like me to have their daughter before and after school even though she works from home. I’ve said no because our son has a different start and finish time, so we won’t see them much as she only visits or gets in touch when she wants anything.

I’m not talking about the virus, I’m talking about jobs and university and all the things we took for granted when we were young. My 20 year old DD is being strong but inconsolable and very angry about how her generation is being held accountable.

A boy in year 11 at GS2s new senior school has been diagnosed with COVID so that year is now in quarantine again. The demographic is changing and younger people are now more likely to be infected.

Last time BJ was in trouble for bringing in the measures immediately, now the conspiracy theorists are complaining because he gave a few days notice.

We’ve been out four times for meals and always been asked for names and contact details. I would hesitate to go somewhere that didn’t bother.

Got up really early this morning and to go for my check up and found the clinic had been moved to two weeks time. No one had told me. I stopped my OH from complaining as some mistakes are likely to happen given the current pressures. So two more weeks of waiting and wondering.

We stopped at Ikea on the way home (to cheer me up and make OH miserable). Queued to get in. Taken to a numbered seat and given a menu then had to put our hand up when we were ready to order - bit like being back at school. One person then went up to pay, with cards only, and the food was delivered on one of their three tiered trolleys. Took my mind off things but I probably won’t go again when my appointment finally arrives though the meatballs, chips and gravy made a nice change.

I'm not sure how futures have been destroyed.
Everyone will know about the virus, they'll know schooling was hit and miss (in some cases!)

Also, I agree with your comments about flu, pneumonia and covid.

I did not mean to cause offence. I could have spelt out the etc by saying those with underlying health conditions but thought it would be obvious. As I’ve said, I have a terminally ill SIL, a dear brother with prostrate cancer (not old, in his 50s) and a very old mother (89) who are obviously having to shield. They are doing so with grace and not having a go at the selfish youth or whoever. You have chosen to misinterpret what I’ve said and let’s leave it at that. I do hope your life gets back to normal, just as I do for the millions of young people who’ve had their futures destroyed.

I do find it tedious when people trot out the old chestnut about flu and the usual death rates from that and from other other illnesses. This is a complete irrelevance.

Covid is very different: we know little about it; we do not understand anything about our ability to develop resistance to it (or not); it seems to spread very easily; we have no vaccine; when it starts to spread it causes the sort of chaos we saw earlier this year with intensive care beds clogged up and young front line NHS workers dying.

It is a whole different ball game and needs a whole different response.

Do people who trot this stuff out honestly believe that countries all around the world have put in place such drastic measures and risked their economies for no good reason? Are they all mad maybe?

Figures quoted in letters in today's Daily Telegraph:
Office for National Statistics: on average 70 people die every day from flu or pneumonia.
Infection rate for Covid is 21 people per 100,000.

Seems to me that the advisors are concerned solely with wiping out the virus and cannot see the bigger picture of how the restrictions are causing more damage to people's physical, mental and emotional well being.

MPs are getting cross about all these diktats from the government and scientific advisors, without any debate in parliament. The Speaker reprimanded the lack of courtesy in making the announcement without first telling MPs.

Reading on here, since the start of lockdown, it has always been a mixture of age groups that people have wanted to report for not following guidance.
There are so many different groups who don’t follow guidance.
E.g. The conspiracy theorists who believe that Covid-19 is a myth being circulated by the government who wants to control us.
Or the “Somebody else did it and I think they were stupid but if they did it why shouldn’t I?” group.
The “Making me wear a mask is an infringement of my civil liberties“ group.
Oh and let’s not forget the “I can do what I want and make up my own mind about how to keep safe” group.
All these groups and others like them would exist no matter which government is in power.
I’ve just read a complaint about Doncaster Races.
Is it really true that so many people cannot make a sensible decision not to attend without it being made illegal?

I totally agree vegansrock and I am really sorry that we are seeing a few on here who are blaming 'them' or 'youngsters' for the spread of covid19. This is standard divide and conquer tactics. Get the generations against each other and sit back and watch. A small point; it wasn't just under 30s who were at the BLM protests, there were people of all ages, and nobody, by any stretch of imagination, can classify Corbyn's daft brother as a youngster!

My daughter and friends where going out next week, restaurant phoned today, can’t do as 7 people. I’m interested as mentioned today were marshals to enforce the laws - contact tracing details being taken, 6 only etc.

Yes and gyms etc all unchanged. The changes are all aimed at keeping the economy going whilst reducing the type of contacts where transmission is more likely to occur

Isn't there mention of organised sports or something similar?
I thought I heard that they're unchanged.

Swimming pools not mentioned - not an issue re transmission

I go to an outdoor pool, bookings only, restricted numbers, but obviously more than six people.
