To want a tattoo

I'd love a tattoo but at the tender age of 73 I don't know if I'd be able to suit one. My son Sherman thinks it is an awful idea for me to get a tattoo but I can't help feeling like I'm missing out. What are your opinions on tattoos? Should I go for it?

Well my gd nearly 20 she has 3 but I wouldn’t have it done when your in your 70s your skin is very thin and papery you only have to knock your arm and it’s black. Sorry but it’s for young people. Just grow old gracefully.

I feel quite tempted now..

I think it’s a great idea and would encourage you. I have four pairs of dungarees and I love wearing them, even though I’m 72!
As Matt Haig says in his latest book, The Midnight Library,
“Aim to be you. Aim to look and act and think like you. Aim to be the truest version of you. Embrace that you-ness. Endorse it. Love it. Work hard at it and don’t give a second thought when people mock or ridicule it. Most gossip is envy in disguise.”

Getting a tattoo is SO conformist! Go on, be individual!

katy1950 Thu 08-Oct-20 12:50:38

Go for it why not live life to the full

LittlemoO Thu 08-Oct-20 12:50:53

No definately not being unreasonable, why shouldn`t you have a tattoo at 73, go for it. We are so worried about our age, natuarally your son would think it`s awful, our children are
our worst critics. I have one I had for my 60th birthday a
little bee he is so cute.
Hope your not going to have a skull, though Ethel. !!!

Horrible
Self mutilation - don't do it.
You are not missing out on anything.

Kleberty2 Thu 08-Oct-20 12:56:25

Go for it, I’m 70 I’ve got tattoos and I love mine and I’ve never regretted having any of them. The only advice I would give is to choose the design carefully and not to have any on the face.

Flakesdayout Thu 08-Oct-20 13:01:40

Personally I don't like them and am too much of a coward to have one in case it hurts but I do appreciate the artwork behind some of those that I have seen. If you want one then go for it.

Jacqui62 Thu 08-Oct-20 13:08:59

Definitely do it if that's what you'd like, it's really nobody's business except yours. Its obviously something you want to do, so go for it and be proud x

SALTburn64 Thu 08-Oct-20 13:09:43

Hi, definitely recommend you don't get one.

My district nurse friend reports that she has seen some horrors as patients’ skin have wrinkled....

Glasgo Thu 08-Oct-20 13:14:33

Marydoll the Locarno in Sauchiehall Street with the revolving stage!
EthelTheTank gaun yesel hen. Grow old disgracefully.

Ngaio1 Thu 08-Oct-20 13:17:50

Tramp stamps? Cannot see the appeal, especially on older, less firm, skin. Still - your life, do as you please.

Bodach Thu 08-Oct-20 13:21:01

Tattoos, piercings, whatever. I have never been attracted to the idea of self-mutilation.

MissAdventure Thu 08-Oct-20 13:23:52

Tramp stamps is an absolutely awful term.

Marydoll Thu 08-Oct-20 13:34:54

Glasgo

MissAdventure

This is a lovely thread. smile
Lovely to see different names popping in, and almost all in agreement, even if it's not for everyone.

Yes, hear, hear, MissAdventure, very pleasing!

Traceyac Thu 08-Oct-20 13:41:52

go for it life is for living ? get something small and tasteful in a viable (ish) area like your wrist or ankle i have a naughty angel on my ankle the tattooist designed it for me go for it

blueberry1 Thu 08-Oct-20 13:42:00

The way I look at it is that we don't know how much time we have left on this earth so do what you want to. I'm just about to dye my hair purple instead of regretting that I never did!

Glasgo Thu 08-Oct-20 13:48:54

Just a young thing then smile

Jan66 Thu 08-Oct-20 13:51:50

If you want one - you go for it smile Ignore any nasty comments too.

chickkygran Thu 08-Oct-20 14:00:08

I say go for it & have fun

Llamedos13 Thu 08-Oct-20 14:01:37

My daughter has a huge tattoo that trails down her back and all over one arm. An elephant on the other arm and various ones dotted about. Once when we were on the beach she was asked by a woman who clearly didn’t like her tattoos how was she going to feel when she is an old wrinkly lady and she responded by saying she would be old wrinkly and colourful.A good answer I thought even though I dislike what she has done to herself.
I wish I’d got a tiny shamrock on my ankle but I’ll just do what Marydoll did and get a stick on.

Lupatria Thu 08-Oct-20 14:16:40

it's your body - go for it if you want one.
i've got two and, at 73, i'm looking to get another one soon.
