Fireworks , ugh

My dog has only just recovered from the trauma of the November fireworks. He hides behind the sofa, shaking and trembling.

I definitely don't want him to become so upset again.

Try having your 5year old waking at 11.30pm screaming in fright last night as my DS & DDiL had. Inconsiderate ratbags, not neighbours just idiots out looking for someone/thing to annoy! Displays without the noise are fine but the loud bangs are unnecessary & scare both young children & animals!

Sorry, I do understand the feelings of those with animals who are frightened by them, but I love fireworks. I shall be watching them with enjoyment this evening. Although I do think that they should be limited to bonfire night and NYE.

Trendynannie6 I think silent fireworks are the way to go. That’s what they do in Belgium. I think wildlife and pets are far more important than 60 seconds of a bang. The animals are traumatised, some for days while babies are woken and children too. I think it’s a very selfish thing to do unless in an organised space properly run.

I don't like fireworks but accept that on certain days (nights) people like to use them to celebrate. That's fine, but please keep it to just those nights, we don't need to hear sudden bangs and flashes on "normal" nights.

Fireworks are also getting louder. I think I may have posted before visiting my mother on a night there was a huge firework display in the city - I found her hiding in a cupboard as she thought the city was being bombed! Silent fireworks are available so why not use those?

What's exciting about those which are like incendiary bombs continually going off ? Until 3am and longer.

Its not just a few fireworks though its hours on end every night for the last fortnight up to 3am So inconsiderate and what a waste of money

I hate fireworks as the damage they do to pets is terrible. Last year a Patterdale puppy had a heart attack and died all to satisfy the selfish fans of fireworks! My poor dog, Kim used to vomit with anxiety when he heard them. I would like them banned. The firework fans can find some other source of pleasure. Let's respect animals.

Ha, sf101 I'd like to see someone try to train my dog not to be scared of fireworks.

We have had many dogs over the years, our JR is the first one to be scared. We too had a beautiful retired greyhound who lived to be 15. He didn't give a monkeys about fireworks either

We had horses. Petrified of fireworks.

I wish I'd known someone like you who could train animals not to be scared!

Wouldn't be a problem if they were silent fireworks but it's like living in a war zone some of the explosions are way over the top. Noisy ones should be banned.

I enjoy watching fireworks, I must admit.

What I don't like at all is that anyone can let them off.

I shall stay indoors this evening, not just because of corona, but because I don't have any idea whether the neighbours setting off fireworks are drunk or sober, responsible or the reverse.

The cat prefers to be near us, while there are fireworks, which is another good reason for staying indoors.

I too love fireworks, all my dogs have been taught from puppies that they are not scary things but fun. My latest is a rescue greyhound so first time in November with fireworks, she didn't bat an eyelid.

I don`t like them tbh.
A waste of money and not good for the environment,poluting the air for seconds seems crazy.
But that`s just my opinion.

I absolutely love them & we will be having quite a few. We live on a farm with no livestock, the house is in the middle of the property & we are currently between pets. We have no close neighbours. I'm really excited about seeing the beautiful colours light up the sky at the end of this grimmest of years

I never gave the fireworks a thought, the darned things will be at it most of the night I hope it pours with hailstones !

Same with our small dog. One, poss two nights would be endurable but we have had fireworks being let off near to us since early Nov, inc Xmas Eve and Xmas Day. Why???? Would you set light to the £10 notes used to buy the fireworks instead and all stand around 'ooohing' and 'aaahing' watching them go up in flames. No.

I didn't enjoy picking up all the firework litter this morning!

Those rocket sticks and tubes are dangerous to dogs. The grey plastic, bullet-shaped 'remains' are a real pain to collect up, too. Will the litter loot 'firework lovers' help?

I won't enjoy staying up late looking after a terrified dog and cat tonight either. I'll have my radio on loud to tone down the racket a little (sorry about that).

I'll keep all my lights, inside and out, on of course.

It's a new and growing trend of protest, locally, just to take the edge off the 'fun', firework lovers!

I was burned by one as a child. Where we live there is usually a display on a floating platform on the water, but I haven’t seen any notices this year.

I don't like them either - what's the point of a bang and a quick shower of whatever it is - a very short spectacle. I wouldn't mind if they were quiet and I believe that they are available. My late cats never took much notice of them but I feel very sorry for those animals who are terrified.

Can't stand them

My small dog gets so upset. I have tried many things to ease the trauma but nothing works

She barks. She whimpers. She runs around, panting. It's awful to watch. Tried anything and everything but nothing calms her down.

I wouldn't mind if they were let off on the 5th November. I could cope with that. Now we get the fortnight involving Halloween and Bonfire Night. And of course New Year's Eve.

But there's nothing I can do about it.

Sorry I am another firework lover, I do however have sympathy with folks who have animals who are terrified or upset by them.

There should be regulations in place whereby they can only be set off on certain days, so that those with animals can be prepared.

I love fireworks, and my blind daughter says she's been hearing them for a day or two where she lives, and the sound gives her cheer.

Provided they are not next door my cat does not bother. In November the fireworks were so close bits were falling in my garden and Tara and I were both unhappy, retiring to bed for some comfort.

Apologies to those with animals, but I love fireworks and am sure we’ll get some locally tonight, booting 2020 away. I’ll be jumping up and down to look out of the front or back door, they cheer me and have done since childhood.
