I wasn’t a Birthing Person and I didn’t Chest Feed

I am a Mother and I breast fed my daughters.

AIBU to expect Mother’s to continue to Breast Feed their babies if they want to?

The world is going mad and if I’m unreasonable to be ‘woke’ then in answer to my own question then NIANBU.

This is of course my reaction to new instructions to Midwives in Parts of the UK.

grandmajet Wed 10-Feb-21 08:13:45

I hope you’re joking! Shaking head in disbelief.

Urmstongran Wed 10-Feb-21 08:13:51

Crazy woke statements. I read about this in yesterday’s newspapers. I don’t understand what is happening in our world anymore.

Esspee Wed 10-Feb-21 08:14:47

I was horrified to read that also. Who truly believes that giving birth and feeding one’s child should be gender neutral?

Beechnut Wed 10-Feb-21 08:19:57

Chest feed.......my mind is boggling.

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 10-Feb-21 08:26:21

Does this mean that when the baby pops out they will tell you that you have a small person , instead of it’s a boy or girl ?

J52 Wed 10-Feb-21 08:33:22

Ridiculous! Will we have nurses called Midpersons. Are male nurses called Midhusbands?
Mind you, at that excruciating moment I couldn’t have cared less what anyone in the room was called!

Gwyneth Wed 10-Feb-21 08:34:21

This involves 1% of the population so the other 99% have to apparently go along with this. Absolutely crazy!!

Sparklefizz Wed 10-Feb-21 08:35:50

It's ludicrous ..... and yet again, women and women's life experiences are being deleted.

Grandmafrench Wed 10-Feb-21 08:42:38

No surprise - it’s Brighton, the original home of Whatever Next. ?

Iam64 Wed 10-Feb-21 08:43:08

Thanks for starting this thread oopsadaisy. I read about this yesterday and share the irritation that yet again, women’s experience appears to be dismissed.

I’m all for sensitive use of language but ‘chest feeding’. Do me a favour. This country has a low rate of mothers who breast feed.

Elegran Wed 10-Feb-21 08:55:55

The chest comprises a large chunk of the torso, stretching from one side of it to the other and from the neck to the stomach. The organ which, in response to the hormones involved in giving birth in the FEMALE, produces milk to feed a baby is the BREAST.

Are they planning to completely redesign the human body to make it unisex, and make it illegal for WOMEN to HAVE BABIES?

Vive la difference!

Listening to 60s songs yesterday on YouTube and this song came on. In The Year 2525

In the the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube' Whoooa

Who would have believed listening to this song in the 60s that it could possibly one day be happening and more besides lol.

If you have ever been to Brighton and seen the so called specialist shops there the fact that they are now calling breasts chests won't come as a surprise, in fact nothing surprises me now.

eazybee Wed 10-Feb-21 09:01:09

Why do these ideas gain such credence?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 10-Feb-21 09:01:38

This is an absolute ridiculous way to be going!!!!

I am a female, I grew my babies in my womb, pushed them out through my vagina and fed them with my breasts. If anyone try’s to tell me otherwise I will not be responsible for my actions!!!!!

geekesse Wed 10-Feb-21 09:14:01

Oh, get over it! Individuals can call themselves and their body parts what they wish. I can’t believe that in the throes of a pandemic, everyone is getting het up about such a trivial thing.

TerriBull Wed 10-Feb-21 09:14:19

Chest feeding sounds horrible! It doesn't evoke an image of a lactating person mother at all. "Lactation" definition the process of producing breast milk for women, yes women, who are pregnant or have recently given birth.

Doodledog Wed 10-Feb-21 09:16:17

If anyone try’s to tell me otherwise I will not be responsible for my actions!!!!!

Give it time, GG - give it time grin

Jeremy Vine is discussing this on Ch5 this morning if anyone wants to hear some points of view on the matter.

Doodledog Wed 10-Feb-21 09:17:10

Just seen that the debate will start at 10.15am. They don't usually go into much depth on there, but it will outline the various perspectives.

Gwyneth Wed 10-Feb-21 09:18:15

Here here Grannygravy well said . It’s almost as if they’re trying to wipe out the existence of female and anything connected such as ‘breast feeding’ and ‘mother’. Surely this isn’t going to help disperse any negative attitudes towards trans people?

TerriBull Wed 10-Feb-21 09:21:27

Why do we, as women, have to redefine ourselves to accommodate an infinitesimal percentage of the population?

Elegran Wed 10-Feb-21 09:23:04

It make a lactating mother sound like a duckbilled platypus - most unattractive. Sour grapes?

"They secrete milk from specialised mammary glands, just like humans and other mammals. But platypuses don’t have teats, so the milk just oozes from the surface of their skin. This makes it look like sweat, but in fact platypuses are aquatic and don’t produce regular sweat at all."

AMK42 Wed 10-Feb-21 09:25:19

Get writing! Tell this Trust that they’re insulting and demeaning women. Copy your letters to your MP, the Health Secretary, and your local Press. Only women can become pregnant. Only women can give birth. Women who choose to identify as male, by becoming pregnant are rather obviously proving they’re not. An avalanche of letters is needed here. Doesn’t help that the local MP is Caroline Lucas of the Green Party that doesn’t support Women’s Sex-based Rights, #EA2010. Their claims to supporting women are completely undermined by them accepting Self-identifying males as women.

Elegran Wed 10-Feb-21 09:27:24

It is not just the denial of women's experiences of the functioning of their body parts, it is also anatomically incorrect. The breast is not the chest. Full stop.

(I used "full stop" instead of "period" so as not to get into a different conversation altogether. The same revisionists probably have some weird name for that too.)

Kim19 Wed 10-Feb-21 09:27:43

Dearie me! My lovely Mum used to say of offenders 'Ignore them and they'll go away'. Hope that might still apply.
