I'm with you Sago fully complied until I saw all the leaders at the G7 summit without masks congregating round a bar ( which we're not allowed to do ) shaking hands and hugging, plus has you say all the football fans and footballers all hugging, everyone who has amore than a few quid not wearing a mask or social distancing at Ascot and to top it off the peson who should know how "deadly" the disease (health secretary ) with it toungue rammed down (not his wife's) throat, so I have the impression it's no more dangerous that flu, it people in power who know about the disease and multi millionaires don't follow the rule what's that tell you, my mask is safely staying off where ever I go but to those who are still under the delusion you need it even though it's fully obvious you don't by higher peoples actions I will stay my 2 metres distance.

Children under 18 to be vaccinated !! Horrors !! Why !! Even scientists agree that not nearly enough is known about long term effects of this new vaccination to risk giving it to anyone of child bearing years - who want to risk their futures - I don't !!

Just because football/tennis/horse racing fans do as they wish, doesn’t make me want to do the same. I shall wear my mask, and keep doing what I believe will stop me infecting others if I have germs.

Being jabbed doesnt offer complete protection. That has never been claimed. It does reduce chances.

I think the suggestion that it is spreading among football fans is to a large extent referring to those who are gathering together unofficially to watch it on the big screens (like we saw in London) or in pubs who do not have to prove vaccination or clear tests.

Wearing masks protects other people not yourself....so personally anyone who doesn't wear one in enclosed spaces is being totally selfish IMO. It is still the law at the moment. Also the incidents of flu have been so much less so I will continue to help stop the spread of that too.....especially this winter.

Plus, how many people have died recently.........not many compared to when this first started, so the vaccine is certainly working
Just because you have tested positive, which is more than likely a false positive, and you’re not ill, why do we have to self isolate. At this rate we’ll never get back to normality.

Sago I fully appreciate your frustration but I for one double jabbed as I am will continue mask wearing and keeping my distance.
I personally find the thought of pretending all is normal on July 19th quite daunting. But I do realise we have to live with Covid and any new viruses as we do with flu. I just wish all who are able would be vaccinated and stop the ludicrous anti vax on social media

I haven’t worn a mask for at least two months and I carry a lanyard. There have been several scientific studies which have proved beyond doubt that masks do not protect you from viral particles, they are two tiny. It’s like trying to catch sand in a football net. Furthermore, they don’t do you a lot of good because you are re-inhaling some of the carbon dioxide and bacteria that your body is trying to get rid of.However, if you feel safer when wearing one, then that’s what you should do. I think everyone should have freedom of choice.

Yes we have lots of new cases as we are testing more than ever this time round! We are testing more than most other European countries which is why we compare badly in their eyes. But the real figures of interest are hospitalisation and deaths which are extremely low, so the government and media are being disingenuous to say the least, in the constant stream of horror stories! The vaccines have broken the link and it’s high time we opened up the economy and the country not to mention the education system. And so many exemptions for members of the various elites- don’t make me laugh! I no longer wear a mask.

Not true. Just waited and see how many extra cases pop up now.

I went into Boots, Greggs, Sainsbury’s and the Newsagents yesterday and didn’t wear the mask in any of them. No one challenged me. Have had both doses of vaccine, so why not.
Still seeing people wearing them whilst in car, on their own (can’t understand that tbh) or walking in the street wearing them. Get some fresh air in your lungs and ditch the mask

I'm not too sure why people find it necessary to give the "I'm not doing this" "I'm not doing that" routine. Few are interested. Throughout this whole sorry saga both my partner and myself have strived to adhere to the guidelines. When we have felt ourselves in an uncomfortable situation we have retreated from it without histrionics.

IF the fans in Wembley stadium all put their fingers in the fire would you follow suit ? This, and Wimbledon, is precisely why they’re not wearing masks - all double jabbed and LFT tested. Not the same thing at all, and wearing masks is still law until they lift the rest of the restrictions.

I went to Wimbledon yesterday. Advance tickets only, covid certification plus ID, all checked by marshals before entering. We were asked to wear masks in the complex and most did. I didn't feel unsafe.

The tennis was quite good too!

Nobody likes wearing a mask, it’s a stupid decision, oh , they aren’t doing it so I won’t, that’s why cases are rising because selfish people are being stupid and selfish, childish behaviour

I think a lot could be learned for future pandemics if they are able to track in detail where people contracted the infection, as if it’s high in Glasgow as a direct consequence of the football, the same must surely be true elsewhere in the UK. Maybe for those of us in Wales the fact that our team went out early having had no games in the UK will turn out to be a hidden blessing after all (it certainly didn’t feel like it at the time).

In Australia they seem to be able to pick up where and how people pick up covid. That’s how they know that one person in the current outbreak was only in contact for a few seconds with an infected person. The Australian doctors on Dr John Campbells blog have been talking about it.

Italy has said UK travellers to the Ukraine game won’t be allied in even if they have tickets. Not going might save a lot of UK lives.

it isn't just stadiums though is it? I drove past the pubs etc on Tuesday late afternoon as I had to pick up my son from ballet and the roads were empty and every single pub was absolutely packed out, the gardens packed out etc

Compared to the population of Glasgow it's scarily high. Edinburgh is at 5000+. It's never been as high as this and I'm hearing every day if people who've had both jabs contacting Covid. It just feels like Groundhog Day.

Mask wearing definitely for me. We are still in a very dangerous situation
and of course I too would love to regain my normal life. However things are not normal!
I feel angry watching crowds of people at sporting events. They are outside , but so many so close together!!!! Can't be safe surely. A friend is a teacher and tells me the cases of pupils testing positive is rising quickly resulting in so many children having to isolate- lots missing valuable education . Not to mention the absolute chaos fir working parents!!! Goodness knows when we will be able to fully relax. Having said that I try to remain positive and get out and about when I can , but endeavour to keep myself and others safe. Stay well , safe and cautious.

It is bad I agree Aveline, but the 10,000 is out of 312,000 predicted infections for the UK as a whole, so it has to be seen in context. Whatever way you look at it there is a high and rapidly increasing infection rate at present, and it would be good to know how much is attributable to the football.
