To think we’ll be in lockdown by Christmas

Just seeing the news about new restrictions being introduced for care home visits, and one expert opinion warns us to expect plan C fairly soon, as plan B wont be enough to stop a fourth wave - Omicron has caused the biggest daily jump to 633 cases in the UK. What do others think ?

Please don't blame care staff either, all of this has been shit enough for them too. I imagine the reason they keep locking down or being over cautious is because of what happened initially in the first lockdown. They don't trust the advice (a lot of which is absent) Some of these people on very low wages really did see the worst of what covid can do. I cannot imagine what it would be like to go into work and find resident after resident dead. It was horrific

I really hope they don't lock my daughter's supported living home down, she is on the waiting list for a specialist psychiatrist as it is sad

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 17:28:38

Unless there is a proven reason, a care home cannot ban visits at any time.

Why did we have the vaccine if they are going to lock us down again which is what these restricitions are leading to. If everyone gets jabbed let's carry on as normal. All these lockdowns damage the economy and that is the most important now. They have no right to enforced restrictions after their behaviour last year.

Because Omicron apparently reduces the efficacy of the vaccines and they’re pushing people to have the booster. Even with the booster, efficacy against Omicron is reported to be reduced to 75%. I agree that they’re behaviour last year was completely out of order, but people can’t use that as a reason not to be sensible this year.

You hope we'll be in lockdown DeeDe?

You hope the schools are shut?
You hope that all the shops are closed?
You hope we can't leave our houses except for a bit of a walk?
You hope that people are banned from seeing their relatives, especially if they live in Care Homes?

I wish people would think before they post.

Alegrias - isn’t it the case that care homes are restricting, and in some cases even banning visits on Christmas Day ? Haven’t seen anything about these restrictions being mandated by government so I’m wondering why they’re doing it. To be cynical I do wonder whether restricting contact in this way is not so much to protect the residents, but to make things easier for the staff. Can’t see any justification for it.

Anyone caught Flu or has that been eradicated!!

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 17:20:16

My health is the most important thing to me right now.

I think it's pretty ominous that Johnson didnt downplay the severity of it.

Its early to know what effect Omicron will have on each population as it is such a new strain/variant. With other variants hospitalisations come a couple of weeks after people first get ill - and deaths later, so it takes a few weeks to get data to know how this variant may affect our population. To have 10 in hospital already- and sadly 1 death already ( only- what is is it 2 -3 weeks since the first case was detected in the UK) is a worrying but also a difficult to predict sign.

rosie1959 Mon 13-Dec-21 16:38:18

The last time I looked at the news there were just 10 in hospital with Omicron
I certainly don’t want them to put the country in lockdown why would we do that we are all now getting vaccinated nowhere like the position in 2020

Madashell thanks for the suggestion to watch Dr John Campbell on youtube. Most interesting!

ESSPEE 100%agree with you especially now that we have vaccines and new medicines for covid to treat patients

Sandigold Mon 13-Dec-21 14:39:50

To answer the question.... no but soon after I think so, the case numbers will be used to justify it...Since finding out more about the profits being made by Pfizer I have begun to question this whole thing. www.channel4.com/programmes/vaccine-wars-truth-about-pfizer-dispatches

Are people in hospital with the Omicron variant? I haven’t heard anything about that yet. Is it truth or gossip?

Hundreds in hospital and the first death today according to the radio news.

Hundreds?

10.

GreenGran78 Mon 13-Dec-21 14:35:30

What I want to know is......how many people are in hospital with Covid? How many people have died directly because of Covid? On average, how many people die from seasonal 'flu each year, compared with Covid deaths? That would give a better perspective on the risks.
Looking at the number of cases per 100,000 the risk of catching it is pretty low, at present. It remains to be seen just how bad the new strain is, but it doesn't sound too bad, at present. Keep calm, and carry on taking sensible precautions.

Johnson has refused to rule out further restrictions before Christmas.

Alegrias1 Mon 13-Dec-21 14:19:36

I would love to hear the numbers actually in hospital split between vaccinated compared to unvaccinated.

Here you go.

Is it what you expected?
