The contrast to these two situations is unbelievable, and unaccceptable

We were watching TV a couple of evenings back and the DEC were broadcasting a request for help for Afghanistan people facing a desperate winter of starvation, freezing cold, malnutrition and lack of medicines, it was desperate and awful to watch. This was followed by an item about people who collect trainers, have huge collections, pay hundreds of pounds for these ugly shoes that they don't even wear, and then it went on to the development of 'virtual trainers' costing £10k upwards which the purchaser does not see, wear or own. I honestly felt as if I had fallen down a rabbit hole. Children starving to death, people buying shoes they don't even wear. Beam me up Scotty.

The gin will be real here Callistemon, can you smell the zest of the lime I have just sliced? winkComing back to earth, I think DEC are probably the best route for Afghanistan donations as they coordinate efforts.

I don’t think I qualify to belong to the mega rich club. Actually I know I don’t! Not even the fairly rich.
I cannot imagine what pleasure the people who have so much money get from spending it this way.
There has to be something wrong with them.
Poor things.

Gin and lime, lovely!

People plan how they'd spend a lottery win.
Giving a proportion to charity would solve a lot of problems.

DanniRae - the DEC has a fund-raising campaign now, and MSF has on the ground professionals in place in Afghanistan - not many organisations do. Our village is holding a Big Breakfast and raffle after Christmas, the proceeds of which will go to MSF in Afghanistan.

A bit off topic but out of curiosity I watched the first couple of episodes of the Sex and the city rehash and won't be watching any more
The shallow, tacky self absorbed world it portrays is sickening and just isn't entertainment any more.

Virtual clothing costing thousands is in the same vein. Shallow people with no values or decent principles throwing money away and judging other people who don't do the same.

I think/hope you are right Beswitched, I for one find the ostentation vulgar and crass when so many go without in reality. I haven't bothered with SITC yet, hasn't appealed
