Your hair looks lovely Mokryna!

Last year my hairdresser and his staff only wore face shields which even then I knew would give almost no protection to their customers. I insisted on wearing a respirator mask ( I’m ECV) and rarely visited. I queried the lack of effective masks and was told how very clean the premises were - wiping down between customers, temperature checks etc. It seems they were not aware at the time that Covid droplets can be airborne, and were the reason effective masks are needed when indoors. Next time I visited all staff wore proper masks - although sadly I think it was a staff member needing hospital care for pneumonia not my gentle persuasion!
I think the recent television ads showing particles visually ( Covid droplets) spreading a bit like smoke indoors, may have helped understanding why masks and ventilation are important when working and mixing indoors.

Sorry. were

Very disrespectful. I went to mine yesterday, the hair dresser himself was masked up as was the other clients. I had him take a photo because I was pleased with his work.

Current rules in England regarding face covering at indoor venues require people over the age of 12 to wear a mask (unless exempt) in shops, including hairdressers and on public transport.

I went to my HD the other, they were both wearing masks as I was, notices up that they have completed Covid safety measure training. I was the only one in there, so felt safe. Shame others aren’t so conscientious. This is the problem with no legal framework around mask wearing.

Thanks for replies. I think the person who caused me most concern was the one who came in and made herself a coffee, hung around for no good reason, unmasked, wandering around. I think she must be the owner’s sister, mum of the child. Not good enough. Just hope I don't test positive.

It wouldn't have bothered me as long as my actual hairdresser and myself were masked.

I changed my long standing hairdresser for this reason. I have some one who comes to the house and takes many precautions as possible. I ventilate the room too.

YANBU.

I fairly recently changed hairdresser because my previous one was slack in her Covid compliance.

My new one greets customers with sanitiser and a thermometer gun, and all the staff are masked.
They also cut my hair better.

That's a shame. Fortunately, my own hairdressers has followed all guidance. I can understand why you feel so uncomfortable.

Bibbity, exactly and they won't turn away customers. It's just so disappointing that many people won't do the simplest things (wear a mask and keep a distance) to ensure the safety of others.

The issue is that masks are not completely enforceable and many establishments can not even ask individuals why they are not wearing grounds as individuals can decide they are medically exempt.

No, not unreasonable - they are. It's very highly infectious and you are indoors, sharing air with these thoughtless, reckless people. We all need to speak out - or walk out - rather than accept these risky situations. I do, but then I'm quite outspoken and comfortable doing so.

Today when I arrived for my appointment the hairdresser was not wearing a mask, though she did put one on when I arrived, so I guess that was OK. But another customer came in, not wearing a mask. She did apologise, but one wasn’t offered. Fortunately she did not stay long.
The hairdresser’s niece aged about 12 was also there, “ helping” her aunt, maskless. Then someone else came and made herself at home, making a cup of coffee, maskless. I think she was the child’s mother.
I don't want to change my hairdresser as I really like the way she cuts my hair, but given the spread of the Omicron variant, I was not at all happy with her lack of compliance with masks. AIBU?
