As a Christian, I know the Bible warns us against these things. There is very definitely a spirit world, but it doesn’t consist of returning dead people. They may look recognisable to you, but they are just Satan’s tricks.
A Christian friend of ours was in his house one night, when ‘someone’ was banging on his outer door so hard, it was caving in. On opening...there was no one there. Things started flying round the room. He prayed in the name of Jesus....and it all went quiet. He did move after that!
You’re much ‘safer’ dismissing it at rubbish, or doing nothing about it. If you believe what you see, and are open to spiritual things, so that you start to look into it more, this is when it gets dangerous.
Jesus is the only way to go.

Have you ever seen a Ghost
(214 Posts)Just before my Nan died she said she could see my grandad, she said he had come back for her
Have you ever seen a ghost..
One of our local pubs was supposedly haunted. By an elderly man.
I was in the bar area one day when I noticed an old chap sitting at the table near the fire with a pint on the table in front of him.
That was strange, because he hadn't been there a few minutes ago and to get to where he was sitting, he would have had to walk past me. He didn't speak to anyone else in the area, just sat with his pint and his fag.
I turned to speak to my friend and asked them if they knew who he was, but when we turned round to look at the chap he had gone. Again, he would have had to walk past us to get out of the pub and as there were quite a few people in the room, would have had to ask people to move or at least squeeze by them.
When I asked the landlady, she said that the general consensus was that it was Dan, who had been landlord in between the 2 world wars. Apparently he used to sit in that place with his pint and a fag for a few minutes at the beginning of the opening hours before going behind the bar to serve as people started to come in!
Never saw him again but when I spoke about it, several people also said they thought he was just a local so didn't say anything!
No and I am not likely to because I don't believe they exist
I think that unless you have experienced something, it all sounds absurd. I have had many experiences, including having my shirt yanked from behind once when I’d lost my temper. I also once fell on the stairs, up in the air to crash down in the floor, except I never hit it. Just found myself sitting there as if something had protected me. I have encountered a spirit - an experience too long to relate here and impossible to adequately describe. I think some of us are capable of these connections and some just not.
I once saw a very clear shadow of a stooped man, he would have to.have been in front of rhe window or in my garden. I rushed out to see, with my dog and sister, there was no- one..When we described the man to my mon, she said it was her uncle ...and that he was harmless. Apparently a bit of a lost soul, who " visited" from time to time..
Yes. I was stood in the dining room talking to my son when a woman walked past behind him and vanished into the wall! I thought at first it was my dil and turned to talk to her. My son said what did you just see? That was five years ago and nothing since.
When we first moved into our house, we could smell lavender polish and the bedroom dresser was very polished quite often too. We didn’t have any lavender polish!!
I am the last person to believe in ghosts, very logical and pragmatic but I can’t explain what I saw!
Not at all frightening though, just felt as though she belonged here.
Yes I have. In my 20s I was peeling potatoes and watching my children playing outside. Suddenly I got the feeling that someone was watching me. I turned round quickly and saw my dead stepfather standing in the corner of my kitchen. He disappeared as quickly as he had appeared.
The day after my mother in law died I was driving to work very early the next day - as I approached her street turning the radio played her very important and favourite Nat King Cole song. I had never heard it for years and have never heard it since. I have no idea to this day why the radio station played it as it wasn’t their genre. Coincidence ? A very big one if you ask me. We got on so well. ...we knew she didn’t have long and I would call in most days after work.
Some of these stories are giving me goosebumps and I hope I'm never paid a visit.
My late brother collapsed and died 200 miles away. I travelled up to the hospital he had died in with my cousin, both very upset . DB had been living with us but travelled back to his flat to sort out some business.
Following morning, cousin and I had stayed overnight in DB’s flat. I made some necessary phone calls, had DB’s mobile in one pocket and mine in another. My phone rang, caller id came up and it said DB’s name. Shook me, though I am generally sceptical. No-one on the line.
Probably a “pocket dial”, but why me, from DB’s phone, at that point in time? Always thought, if anyone would try to make contact from beyond, DB would
Yes I have. Had a nun stood at the bottom of our bed in a hotel room that used to be an Abbey. She'd broken a glass light shade in the bathroom to get our attention. She appeared after we'd cleared it up. Then she went through my husband's body. Very real. Very true. As is the fact we had the ghosts of two children, a boy and a girl, in my sons bedroom. They'd died in a fire in the house, something we didn't know prior to purchase. It wasn't until my son started asking me what they were doing in his room & I asked the health visitor if he was too young to have imaginary friends.
Yes, several times. The one that I remember the most was about the elderly lady next door. She lived on her own, we would say hello and have a chat. One November morning I came out of my house to go to work and she opened her front door. I asked if she was OK as she was only wearing her nightie and it was pretty cold. She smiled and said she was fine, I asked again and she said 'Yes, Goodbye dear' and went back inside. When I got home from work that evening my partner said that he had some bad news, the other neighbour had not seen her for several days, he had a key so went inside. He found she had passed away in her sleep. Surprised I stated that I'd seen her that morning so it must had been sudden, my partner looked at me strangely and said 'No, you must be mistaken as the doctor said that she had passed away at least 24 - 48 hours earlier' The neighbour went in at 10am, I saw her at the door at 8.30 am. Maybe she was trying to tell me something
Yes. I was walking into the town centre, when I saw a lady, the grandmother of a classmate of my son. I knew her well enough, they had all been to my house. She was wearing her familiar check coat, pulling her shopping trolley. I wasn't near enough to speak, a few yards maybe. Broad daylight.
When I went into the bakers, I met the lady's daughter, she had moved across the town with her mother.
I asked how she was, she said her mother died last Tuesday.
I thought I had one once. I was in bed one night in the dark and could feel the bed shaking. Scared the pants off me. Turned out it was a mild earthquake tremor rocking me about, but I didn't find that out until the morning ?
Yes. Several times. A man was with me all afternoon at a craft fair. Another time just after we moved into a Victorian house somebody told me to bugger off. I said "You bugger off, I live here now" I also saw a dog in the office I worked in. .In hospital after a major operation the nurses told me the "Grey lady" sat by my bedside all night and they knew I would be ok as she always sat with very ill people but they always survived.
Definitely, and usually it's not something to be frightened by .
It's just an unquiet spirit .
Some people see or sense them and some don't .
As a child ,I felt the presence of a girl ,who had died in our house .
I only felt intimidated by her as a teenager when boys were interested in me and then - she went .
In my first house abroad I found it hard to sleep after 3.00 am and that when that's when I saw menacing figures floating across the room and loud noises and strange music .
That was unpleasant .
But since then , I've seen my Grandma many times when I'm working in the garden and that has been reassuring . I sensed ghosts in other people's houses and have felt no fear .
Odd things have happened to me. My friend and I shared a room at Jamaica Inn. All night long I was aware of a hand on my shoulder. I could see her in her bed. It disappeared at around six in the morning. When I was younger, I’d wake up to the smell of Deep Heat. There was no one in the room. I only found out years later that I had a stalker/peeping Tom outside my window. Really, I had more to be afraid of the living than the dead
I am not at all sceptical about things well beyond our assumed knowledge, there's still so much we don't understand. The old London hospital where I trained, my brother and also my Mum did too, was full of tales. A white lady walked on one ward, a nurse would tap your shoulder if you felt sleepy feeding a baby on the children's ward, many saw evidence of a poltergeist on gynae, and another ward had prayers before the day's work and had apparently had an exorcism done because of an unruly presence. This was taken for granted, nobody questioned it. The hospital dated back to the mid 18th century, so had seen many sadnesses. It was also where the Elephant Man was given sanctuary from his terrible life in the freak show. An amazing place.
I am fascinated and moved by people's recollections.
my young daughter died recently, we still have no explanation, death certificate says sudden adult death, my other daughter and myself had to go get tested for underlying heart conditions to see if it was genetic, while sat in the waiting room the song from her funeral came over the speakers and we both started crying and hugging, like she was letting us know she was there with us. It is not a common song that is played often, not a popular one, so quite unique, we explained to poor doctor why we were upset at the coincidence of song being played while we waited.
Could the sceptics explain why a 3 year old child woke her parents in the early hours, chatting to granny who had 'come to see her' and was 'sitting on the bed'. Then the following morning they had a phone call to say that granny had died?
Or why my father, staying in a hotel felt a pressure on his chest each time he switched off the light and tried to sleep? It happened 3 times until he'd had enough, got dressed and walked around the town until breakfast time.
Oh cookiemonster66, I'm so sorry
I don't think it was a coincidence either
I got on really well with my MIL even though we lived 200miles apart. 45 years ago, one morning, doing the housework, I had a strange feeling that “all was not quite right” with her.
Suddenly my H arrived home from the office…unexpectedly. When I saw him I said “ I know why you’re here…it’s to do with your mum .” “ Yes…” he said. “just had a message at work on the phone. My mums died!”
My favourite aunt was also my godmother and we were quite close even though she lived 300 miles away. She was always elegant and would never be seen without make up, or wearing her favourite perfume. I don’t know what it was called, but many a time, after she died, I could smell her perfume lingering in our house…even though she had never visited us.
My cousin - a piano teacher-lived in a very old house in the country….a chantry which was were where monks used to sing hymns/make music hundreds of years ago. Imagine her amusement to be woken some nights/early mornings by the sound of her piano being played….when she was the only occupant in the house!
Wilm
My Dad died when my youngest son was 3, a few days after his death my son was waving out the window into our back garden, I asked him who he was waving too & he said ‘Grandad, he’s on the swing’…..so I waved too!
Love this so much!

I don't think it is 'rubbish'. I believe if it is comforting it is from Love. I recently had a traumatic family crisis and prayed so hard. I just felt this shower of Love fall down all over me, and I knew with all certainty that all would be well.
Yes. Just the one. I was in bed but woken by the dog and cat standing up on the end of my bed where they normally slept peacefully until long after I got up. It was quite light so perhaps about 6 in the morning or slightly earlier. Suddenly my bedroom door opened and a young woman rushed in and hurried towards the window where I never closed the curtains as my bedroom was on the third floor overlooking a car park and open grassland. She was a solid looking girl. About a dress size 20/22. Not fat, just attractively solid. She had short hair and was wearing a black pencil skirt and a black cotton sleeveless t.shirt. I was sitting up in bed stroking the cat and dog who had both hurried close to me and I was just starting to say “what the fu......,,,” when she turned towards me with a look of despair on her face that I never want to see on another person again. She then, well there’s no other words, she turned to look out the window again and suddenly wasn’t there any longer. And I realised she couldn’t have rushed from my bedroom door to the window as I had 2 chest of drawers along the wall and had left 2 drawers open so there wasn’t room for anyone to pass by the end of my bed to get to the window.
Not being a worrier, I’d stopped thinking about the incident but a few months later heard from a neighbour that a former tenant had gone to work in America, leaving his girlfriend behind. That she was a big girl and had idolised her boyfriend. Who had promised to be back in 3 weeks and asked her to sell off the furniture and keep the money safe so it could go towards her plane ticket when he came back to collect her. She had told neighbours that he was leaving his very noticeable sports car parked at the airport so he’d be back 2 minutes after she saw it parked on the car park. He had actually given the landlord a months notice the week before he left. So she only realised that he’d left her and had no intention of returning when the landlord informed her that she was staying in the flat illegally and would be evicted as a squatter. It was only when a neighbour told her that he’d seen her boyfriends car for sale in a local car lot, that she started to believe she truly had been abandoned.
She went to live in a hostel where she committed suicide about 17years before I’d seen her looking out my bedroom window to see if her boyfriends car was in the car park. I never told anyone about seeing her until now.
