Just before my Nan died she said she could see my grandad, she said he had come back for her

Have you ever seen a ghost..

cowshindtail Tue 18-Jan-22 10:46:42

Yes ,I am pretty sure that I saw a ghost many years ago when I was a teenager.I was on the bus going to school and saw a boy in striped pyjamas standing at the upstairs window of a derelict house.

WhiteRabbit57 Tue 18-Jan-22 10:50:09

Where ghosts are concerned think about this. When camera's were low tech and lots of blurring etc occurred everyone had evidence for 'ghosts.' Now there are trillions of high tech phones with superb cameras right across the globe, but you don't see ghost pictures anymore.

I had one like Susiewakie. I was 19, and away at university and awoken about two in the morning with a massive bump that lifted me off the mattress. I was rang in the morning by my parents to tell me that my brother had come off his motor bike at two o' clock that morning. He was in hospital for a long while but eventually fine.

Yes I did too. When about 16 In my parents home. I went bed sharing bedroom with my younger sister separate beds . I was just trying get to sleep when felt pressure on my abdomen really hard. I thought God what's that out my hand out and felt a hairy arm pressing down..I froze and was trying to shout out to my sister I could see sleeping but nothing came out . I then saw something appear .com other side of the bed it was a enlarged head shoulders of a elderly woman grey hair plaits over head looking very kindly and raising her hand as if to say don't worry. .she then disappeared
My feeling was that she had come through to try to protect me from whatever else had come through. Odd tho. I went around really scared to sleep there again. Quiet and darednt tell anyone. For days. Finally I said about it and my dad just said the dead won't hurt you it's the living you need worry about I haven't ever forgotten that night the house was sold after mum died . But always had that feeling there. My daughters seen a few things in our house . I think you're either open to these things or not. My sister was very spiritual. . I believe there is something else .My elder sister died and few weeks later. My tablet lit up with her photo while I was charging it . She always said she hoped she would be able to let us know if there was anything else. She also came through in my phone before that. As I was sat alone and battery was going. All sudden a burst of bright photo of her came on lit up screen .it was comforting in a way. My bro in law also had my eldest sister photo come into his phone while the funeral director was there . Just laying on the table untouched. Nice to know they are still around.

i feel certain about what happened to me many years ago at about the age of 7 , because it was so boring. I was a bright child and the eldest, and used to make up stories to tell my younger sister in bed and make up tales about places we visited or passed through on the bus. Well I was visiting my great aunt and staying overnight. She went to visit another elderly lady in a big old house not far from her home, and I went with her. Of course it was quite boring for a little girl and no toys around and no books (I was a great reader and could have sat there for hours ) so I was fidgeting a bit and the lady we were visiting asked me if I would like to have a walk around the house and look out of the windows etc. So I duly started to wander about. Some rooms were quite interesting with pictures and furniture, others had furniture covered by sheets and so I was upstairs walking along a wood panelled sort of passage way, when I saw another door as part of the panelling. I went in and the room was basically empty, no carpets wooden floor a plain wooden chair and a piece of furniture I did not recognise but now know it was a prie dieu. Absolutely nothing else so shut the door and wandered on. Later we were having some tea and I asked the lady why that little room didnt have any furniture or carpet, (because it was the only one like that neither furnished properly nor covered with sheets) She said where do you mean? there isnt a room like that. I explained where it was in the house and she repeated that there was no room there. My great aunt scolded me for making up stories , so I asked if I could take her up to show her. We went back up the stairs and I looked all the way along the wall and pressed things but no sign and I got into trouble more for lying. However years later I came to my own explanation. with a vivid imagination there was no way I would be making up a tale about an empty room, I only spoke of it because it was totally different to other rooms. What had I to gain by such a boring story. It was a very old house and that ladies family had lived there for very many years. So I did a bit of looking up about that area etc and I came to the conclusion that either it was a priest hole from the time when catholics were persecuted , and I had just seen the door outline in a particular light or it was a ghost place where there might have been one that was blocked up or something like that. I wasnt allowed to go there again, and was told that I couldnt be trusted to behave which infuriated me as I was not a liar and I wanted to go and see if I could find it again. So at the age of 76 now I am firmly convinced that I did not make up what I saw.

I feel so comforted by reading most of these posts

because I like to believe in the Spirit World.. lots of reasons, I am a Christian, attend church (just so`s you know! LOL)

my dad told me he saw his mil at the foot of the bed when he was newly married to my mum, and she told him to take care of my mum... he was not a man to have fancies!

me? don`t think I have ever seen one, but certainly "experience" or is it my imagination... I have heard my mum, calling up the stairs to me to get up, many, many mornings when I was younger and working... I have and do still feel (how to describe that feeling?) her with me, some times very strongly, other times....

and that is something I do believe in, that our human language just cannot adequately describe anything from another world, the other world? I do believe there is another Spirit world..

my husband died 2 years ago, and with the covid stuff, I am not doing so good, I do know I feel him, or is it Jesus? that I do not know,, who it is , but I feel someone behind me, nice feeling, comforted almost with arms around me,, I feel that quite a lot lately.

and yes, thinking... I often see a small animal around me, I have a cat, and thinking it is her, well it isn`t.. is it my beloved Sheltie who died a few years back, still miss her terribly.

Apparently, as a child, I used to ask my Mum in the morning to "tell that little boy to stop climbing in the window". MANY years later, I was reminded of this when a nephew would climb in the window.

One night, I saw a head made up of brightly-coloured, sparkly squares come in the door. My Mum thought it was probably her Dad, who died before I was born.

Janeea Tue 18-Jan-22 11:07:22

I am a real sceptic but the last words my dad said to me was that they would soon come and see our new house, he was perfectly well then, a few months later he became ill, I was sitting at home one evening and suddenly the lounge door opened, no winds, no draughts, nothing, never happened before or in the 19 years since, it was 8.10 in the evening, my mum phoned me later to say dad had died at 8.10 that evening, still think it a coincidence but ……

I haven't seen a ghost but both my mother, father and grandmother did.
My father used to go to a café to read his newspaper; came home one day and said he'd seen Mr X in the cafe. Mr X had died 2 weeks earlier.
Nan said that she saw family members (deceased) round her bed, she died that night.
I have a personal wormhole that things disappear into - one day my husband was looking for his car keys; we searched everywhere, no luck. Walked into the kitchen and they were there on the island, where we had looked before. My daughter's favourite toy (small furry hedgehog) went missing (it went everywhere with her - school, shopping, bed).
We searched everywhere, stripped the bed but he was nowhere. About 6 months later I went up to switch on her electric blanket, saw a bump in the bed and there was Albert under the duvet.
Earrings also go missing.

My Dad died when my youngest son was 3, a few days after his death my son was waving out the window into our back garden, I asked him who he was waving too & he said ‘Grandad, he’s on the swing’…..so I waved too!

What a really interesting thread this morning. I wish l had a ghostly tale to tell you but sadly not. However l have seriously enjoyed those of you who have! Who knows what is out there whether real or in our subconscious, l like to keep an open mind but yes, l do believe in ghosts!

Cossy Tue 18-Jan-22 11:13:12

Yes ! In our house and often !

Moggycuddler Tue 18-Jan-22 11:14:53

No. I would like very much to have been visited in some way by the loved ones that I have lost, specially my parents, and I am sure that if they could have, they would have "shown me a sign" to comfort me. And yet some people apparently see ghosts of great grandparents they never knew or strangers from the past.

cookiemonster66 Tue 18-Jan-22 11:16:29

YES - I have seen quite a few! First one was when I was only 8 yrs old, we had moved into a new house and my bedroom had an alcove, every night a man hanging from a rope around his neck would watch me, so each night I would go into my sisters room and sleep with her. I even told my teacher at show and tell, bear in mind at that age I had not seen any horror films, any ghost books so had not been influenced by any scary media. My parents got so concerned they swapped bedrooms with me and my little sis but that did not help as I was worried he would scare her too, so would creep into her room every night and bring her back to my room while he watched me, hanging there! By my early teens I went to local library and researched and found out that a man had hanged himself there previously. I have since seen many ghosts, another new house we moved into, I told hubby I could feel the old house opposite watching me all day, and showed him what window. It was a listed building now used to sell antique furniture. We went over there and I asked the lady about it she said it was haunted. Hubby was asked to give a quote to decorate as we ran a decorating business, once upstairs, where public did not usually enter, I went all cold and said 'he is here in this room'! I found a book called Hampshires most haunted places and low and behold found Broomhill and the first two sentences written over a century ago said "I feel the old house, it watches over me!" when they sold it and it was converted into two homes all sorts of strange things happened in our cul-de-sac like books flying off shelves, and door handles rattling, not just at my house ALL the neighbours were sharing same experiences, he was cross his house was being invaded!

I used to work in a supermarket that was built on the site of an old children's home.
One day on checking the CCTV, we saw two young children running around the storeroom. No one can get in without a code and when a couple of people went to check they found no one there. We saw them on the CCTV and once they left the two children appeared again. It was then we noticed their clothing was from around the 1890s

In the 60s I moved to Kensington/Chelsea for a new job, I stayed initially in a hostel. My cubicle was one of 3 in a large bedroom on the 2nd floor. One night I was wakened by screaming and an occupant of one of the other cubicles ran out screaming she's hanging. I could hear carriage doors slamming outside. I could hear other screaming and some screeching. Turned out the other girl had known that a maid (in a former life) had hung herself on a pulley and there were lots of coming and going in the house. I was scared out of my mind.

Jazzhands Tue 18-Jan-22 11:23:28

Many. Mum was at the top of the stairs and a lightbulb blew up. She screamed and told my father that she had seen a ghost.
A few days later, a newspaper reported the death of a lorry driver in an accident. It was the previous occupant of the house, and the death was at the same time.
As a teenager, I had had a great day out and was resting in my bedroom. I saw a man and boy in flat caps sitting on the opposite bed. They were grey and fatigued, Victorian looking. The man said: 'Yes you've had a great day, but look at us and think on.' It still chills me remembering.
A while back Mum passed peacefully, 500 miles away. My brother phoned to tell me. Even though I was prepared, it was still a shock. I got a phonecall from my grown son who had pulled over in his car, as he felt he just HAD to phone me about something urgent, even though he didn't know any of this. He was so shaken. Telepathy. My brother said he saw Dad (already passed) sitting in the armchair waiting for Mum to come and see him

I do believe,and regularly see
'ghosts'or hear them as I am a natural clairvoyant, have been since I was 11- when it terrified me.Didn't really learn to manage it until my first husband died in his early 40's.Most of the passed on are benign and want to let their families know they are ok pr to ease their suffering.A friends daughter and grandmother turned up together at the side of my bed a couple of weeks ago-the grandmother dressed in very distinctive clothes. What they wanted to say was pertinent to the situation my friend was going through, but I didn't understand some of things said to me,though my friend did and I felt a sense of relief in her.I didn't know her mum at all,she passed away before I met my friend. She didnt recognise the clothes I described her mum wearing, but came scross a photo of her wearing exactly the clothes I described a week or so later! There are plenty of sceptical people out there, often with good reason as there are charlatans as with any profession. However, this gift came to me unbidden, and can be a double edged sword! But its also led me to a faith and has given me much comfort over the years.I also agree with the poster who described the 'recordings' being left after a very happy or unhappy incident and some people can 'play' it,others can't.Pubs that often seem to be 'haunted' hold so many feelings from people talking to others, drowning sorrows etc,but not all,and there are some very unkind spirits- as they were in this life-around.Being no longer in this world doesnt mean you change and become Mr or Mrs Wonderful immediately or ever! Interesting posts.

My 80 yr old nan who was fit as a fiddle, grew all her own veg, very spritely , grandad had died over 20 yrs before. One January she asked my hubby who was a decorator to redec her dining room. She explained grandad had come to see her and told her to get the house in order as she would die that year and join him. All the family thought she was losing her marbles, we decorated, as soon as the house was finished she died and she was found laying on her back with a bible open on her chest on the lord is my shepherd page looking very at peace. We were all upset but my 5 yr old daughter said why are you so sad, she is so happy now she is with grandad again. When the phone call came in the tree outside the window filled with a flock of colourful birds, parakeets I think, (in Hampshire UK?!?) as the news was conveyed on the phone - most bizarre, never seen them before or since, she sent them down to show us how beautiful life is and make us smile when we were sad am convinced of it. Call ended and they were gone but all 4 members of our family saw them and were watching out the window at the amazing sight while we took the news on the phone.

I was working in a local club and had to go to the cellar to refill stocks. It was fully lit and I could see clearly. There was only me in there, but I was actually pushed forward and heard 'Get Out'. I was told later that it was known to be haunted.

Seeker2022 Tue 18-Jan-22 11:27:07

Correction to my post about "Hello from Heaven" book. I see from the Waterstones site that, although the authors interviewed 2,000 people and and collected more than 3,300 first-hand accounts, they selected 353 accounts to actually put into the book.

Opelessgran15 Tue 18-Jan-22 11:27:27

Apologies for typos- the post wouldn't let me preview and shot off before I could correct it.Thats not otherworldly, thats me and technology!

My elderly mum was very ill in hospital with Pneumonia, she woke up in the night worrying that she may die and saw my Nan (her mum) sitting on the chair beside the bed, Nan told her she was going to be ok and then disappeared, my mum even described what she was wearing. My mum made a full recovery.
Some years ago I had a part time job in the office of a care home, one day a lovely old man who we were all fond of died, some of us were in the staff room making a coffee, waiting for the undertakers when we heard knocking coming from his room, one of the nurses said quickly go and open the window in L’s room to let his soul go free, someone went and opened the window and the knocking stopped.
Msida & Pammie, I agree with what you say, it’s incredibly tough & totally heartbreaking being the one left behind ?

My Granddaughter, aged 2+ used to regularly say there was a little boy in their garden. They lived in a very old cottage at the time. It really freaked my daughter out so she asked a friend of a friend, who was a Uni chaplain, to bless the house. The boy was seen the following morning but never again. Maybe he came to say goodbye to Martha??!
