Food deliveries by unmasked drivers

I'm quite cross and concerned. S*****s have been delivering our shopping and mostly they have done a sterling job. On Friday the driver arrived with no mask. On being politely asked to wear one he refused so we declined the delivery. Sainsbury now say they cannot guarantee a masked delivery driver. We are vulnerable ?

My Tesco delivery drivers mask up and bring my stuff indoors as I cannot lift it. They help me put it on the kitchen working surface. I wear a mask too as a courtesy to them.

If it is being delivered to your doorstep I cannot see a problem.

They can still use common sense FarNorth and not be utterly selfish. To use an old saying, if the Government told them to stick their hand in the fire would they do it?

FarNorth Mon 31-Jan-22 12:01:38

songstress did you really mean to sound so selfish?

If only others would do their bit for the common good instead of telling those for whom covid could be a death sentence that they should lock themselves away. Wearing a mask in an enclosed space and keeping your distance really isn’t a lot to ask, is it?

But it's not going to happen when those people have been told by their government that they don't have to bother.
(As far as I know, England is the only UK country which has abandoned these measures.)

I’m sure you’re right Maw.

Get a grip

Beswitched What an awful thing to say about someone you do not know. I am sure he does not want to wear a mask all day, every day while driving as well

To be fair, I think Beswitched was referring to the above post and not the delivery driver confused when she said
Or, of course, he's just a selfish gut..

Well said Dickens.

I will be glad when restrictions are over and we are back to normal, and I will be slinging my mask. We have the vaccine so bring on normality, and let those who are afraid lock themselves inside because I want to live life normally.

...and let those who are afraid lock themselves inside because I want to live life normally.

That's got to be one of the most crass comments yet on this topic.

The instant dismissal of people who are medically compromised and who've probably been advised to take precautions - as if they are simply cowards who are "afraid". Insensitive doesn't even cover it.

It's not even worth explaining from the point of view of those who have been informed that they are 'clinically extremely vulnerable' - I suspect it would fall on deaf ears, and that you are immune to any reasoned debate.

Beswitched What an awful thing to say about someone you do not know. I am sure he does not want to wear a mask all day, every day while driving as well. So you expect him to keep putting it on and off all day. Picking up the baskets and handing them over to people and then taking them back. Think of the probable (any germs) on the baskets that he will then get on his hands!! He would have to keep constantly cleaning his hands every time after a customer to put his mask back on and off. His hands need to be really clean to keep touching his mask. |I do not think you have thought this through. The customer simply stands back, sorted!

What’s happened to compassion in society I wonder. None of us know what life has in store and many of us will be vulnerable one day.

Beswitched Sun 30-Jan-22 10:53:47

Git

Beswitched Sun 30-Jan-22 10:53:36

Maybe his comprehension skills aren't great and, despite the many posts explaining the different and difficult circumstances people have been dealing with during Covid, he still doesn't get it.

Or, of course, he's just a selfish gut.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 30-Jan-22 10:24:53

Maybe he’s just a selfish git.

Marydoll Sun 30-Jan-22 10:23:53

That's what I thought, GSM. If so, hasn't john read the whole thread and the comments from those who, through no fault of their own, cannot throw caution to the wind?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 30-Jan-22 10:14:26

I suspect he is one of the throw caution to the winds brigade Marydoll. Otherwise known as the I’m all right Jack brigade.

Meaning …?

Exactly! I wondered to whom john's comment was directed.

How selfish. As others have pointed out some people have good reason to be anxious and doing the minimum you can ie wear a mask in indoor venues is not a huge ask.

runnerbean Fri 28-Jan-22 12:26:43

Sorry not to respond to your replies a bit earlier. What I see, kind or otherwise (!) Is a pretty fair reflection of what is found on Social media, but anyway I'm surprised by the number of replies, there is life!
FYI I live in the city centre having the 2nd highest rates in the uk and climbing. The reasons for this are complex and cannot be readily addressed, but some of it is definitly down to behaviours. Life for friends in North Norfolk is very different and they can be much more relaxed. For me the booster is contraindicated and I await cardiac investigations. We try to get out of the city most days to the countryside and real fresh air which is a sanity saver. I've had a couple of caring DMs and I'll respond to these personally.
Again, thanks for being alive!!!

Some people are cautious because they have‘underlying conditions’ songstress. Don’t tell us to lock ourselves away. That’s so insensitive.

That's what I thought too GSM. I was going to respond to songstress, but thought the better of it.

I posted this extract on the mask thread, from a letter I received today from the Chief Medical Officer in Scotland.
songstress, it's not about being afraid, but for those of us for whom the vaccinations haven't been so effective, it's about trying to protect ourselves, the best way we can.

I try not to comment negatively on here but I feel behaving like this is totally unnecessary and disproportionate. Please start living your life again.
