What a revolting comment about the “wee witchie”
Irrelevant too
Good Morning Wednesday 13th May 2026
Being asked for an honest opinion
To be really irritated by chefs over praising their own food?
I expect to be told I'm being unreasonable for saying that I wish there were fewer pictures in the press of Kate Middleton (oh yes, you can complain about that too ?) with her mouth open. Today's were accompanying news of her taking on what used to be Harry's rugby patronages.
I think she'll be a great ambassador (is that the word?) for the sport and, as usual, she looks a model of forty-year-old fitness. She even looks elegant in a track suit.
But the gaping maw? (no offence maybemaw; your maw is a different word).
What a revolting comment about the “wee witchie”
Irrelevant too
Heavens above!! How dare the Duchess of Cambridge have a sense of humour? Would you prefer she never smiled? Should she have that stern look of a humourless old bat about her?
I'm ecstatic that she laughs out loud and grins away, unafraid of future 'laughter lines'!
Plus, you can't blame her for the photos the media put out of her.

She shouldn’t be happy, she had a private education and her husband is wealthy

Why do you suppose this to be her fault? Journalists no longer show people what they intend to print about them.
To be fair HM has kept her mouth closed on photos for years and looked cross as a result, so I am all for any public figure looking as if the photo was taken while she was smiling or laughting. Yawning or coughing without covering her mouth would be different, or chewing her food with her mouth open, but that is apparently not what this is about.
????
Well, it made a change from the doom and gloom!
As did the door thread.
??????
Well, goodness me, this took off!! ?
She’s got a huge mouth and good teeth.
She looks good with her mouth wide open, unlike most folk.
The picture editors chose those pictures because they grab your attention.
It’s as simple as that.
To be honest I’ve never even noticed that Kate Middleton has been photographed a lot with her mouth open, Jesus ! And I certainly wouldn’t be wishing less photos of her showing those beautiful teeth, or smile!
Sarnia
The Middleton's mortgage, was there an inheritance from somewhere, their family business, private education. Good grief and all because the poor girl has her mouth open!
???
I said upthread that women should always keep their mouths shut!
It can get you into all kinds of trouble, speaking out of turn and laughing!

And have bad teeth and horrible hair and be ginormous.

Gosh! And I just thought it was good to see some happy pictures in the paper when there is so much which is awful going on in the World!
It's not allowed, particularly if you're privileged.
She should be wearing sackcloth and ashes.
And she’s beautiful.
She shouldn’t be happy, she had a private education and her husband is wealthy

That is possible Germanshepherdsmum, though I believe his father was a pilot, and there were 4 brothers to share the inheritance. I think I read that further back there were some trusts set up, maybe by a Grandmother?, to enable the grandchildren to attend private schools. That was more common last century, whereas these days the majority of children at independent school have their fees paid by their parents.
I'm sure I read that Michael Middleton's father or grandfather was a solicitor, so they probably inherited a bit somewhere along the line.
At the time it probably seemed like a huge mortgage. Comparing property prices from years ago is pointless
It is pointless and comparing Northern property prices with those of London and the Home Counties even back then is pointless too.
Yes, our mortgage was crippling. I should have started a kitchen table business.
Sago
Callistemon21 I cannot think why I didn’t use my initiative and brains to set up a business when my children were young.
Ah! I’ve remembered now, childcare was ridiculously expensive, we could only afford one car, I had no parental support as we lived hundreds of miles from family.
We had no spare money to invest in any kind of business.
Our first home cost 17K in 1982 in the North of England, we were so proud, in 1986 we bought our second home for 28K, we we’re over the moon.
Carole and Michael Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge's parents, bought their first family home West View in Cock Lane in Berkshire for £34,700 in 1979.
I don’t think they were doing badly.
At the time it probably seemed like a huge mortgage. Comparing property prices from years ago is pointless. Our £11,000 mortgage seemed hard going at times because wages and salaries were far lower than they are now.
Perhaps the Middleton’s were more fortunate with childcare than we were. The party business was probably something she could do at home initially. The family all seemed to be roped in to help even as children. The family appear to work extremely well as a team.
I don’t resent people who, on paper, had more going for them as bitterness warps the soul.
Calendargirl
Haven’t really noticed her mouth being open. Do you mean she is laughing, or just with her mouth open as such?
??
??
She doesn’t control the newspaper/magazine pictures so perhaps she should have her mouth wired shut.
To be happy and laughing is unforgivable it seems.
So I've expressed this observation before, but I'll have another go.
There are some posters who, irrespective of the topic of the thread, look for some roundabout method of introducing a way of getting at the Scots and their elected leader. If misogyny can be included, so much the better.
Which means to me, either they are trying to wind up some Scots posters, or they are so obsessed and terrified of a country on their borders which is being run by a woman, that they try to bring it up at every opportunity.
Either way, its a sad state of affairs.
Apologies for being off-topic. I'm away for my haggis and my wee deoch an doris before my bagpipe lesson.
No, but there are different levels of privilege and Kate definitely had a more privileged start in life than the average person. Which is, I think, the point Sago was making.
Beswitched
And I don't agree that anyone with a bit of initiative and a good work ethic can build a successful business. Far more new start ups fáil than succeed every year. It requires a certain talent and business nous, which most of us don't have.
I think you're right. And it also requires a certain 'frame of mind'. If you're impoverished - worrying about where the next meal is coming from, or disabled / sick, or have mental health issues - all these things would make it difficult to start up a business.
Kate was 'priviliged' - or lucky - to be born into a family who had the ability to become successful business owners (who knows, she might appreciate that fact herself), but she's hardly in the category of the elite aristocracy whose wealth and estate is handed down through the generations.
I’m sure you know who the wee witchy is Parsley. And it’s not Princess Anne.
You may have a point if it was a ‘ selfie that she herself posted’
But it isn’t & she didn’t.
