Mouth open duchess

I expect to be told I'm being unreasonable for saying that I wish there were fewer pictures in the press of Kate Middleton (oh yes, you can complain about that too ?) with her mouth open. Today's were accompanying news of her taking on what used to be Harry's rugby patronages.

I think she'll be a great ambassador (is that the word?) for the sport and, as usual, she looks a model of forty-year-old fitness. She even looks elegant in a track suit.

But the gaping maw? (no offence maybemaw; your maw is a different word).

I have heard it all, what a horrible post. I thought they were wonderful photos of a young woman at ease and throughly enjoying herself. Mouth open, that’s how you have a good laugh. Much rather see photos like this than say Victoria Beckham who never even smiles let alone laugh.

100%.

She’s laughing and looks lovely, nothing like a screaming skull!

Royal photographers must take thousands of pics on the offchance of a good one. It's editors who seem to choose to print or feature photos of Katherine laughing or smiling. Can't say I blame them!

Pantglas2 - I agree, I'd far rather see her mouth open in a natural unposed look than the daily botoxed trout-pouts we see in the news and all over facebook. But that's a whole other whinge. grin

I think she has an amazing smile, mouth closed or open. My late mum used to hate having a photo taken because she found it hard to smile naturally. I find it easier to smile on a photo if I say "saturday" as they're taking it but that often leaves me with a mouth-open smile but it does look more natural than a grin.

VB is self conscious about her looks, including her weight. She’s lived with unkind, demoralising comments throughout her adult life.

Victoria Beckham has admitted during an interview (some time ago now) that she didn't like her smiley face in photographs because she thought they made her look a bit odd. That wasn't the word she used, but the gist of her comment was that she feels unattractive when she smiles.

She's self-conscious about her looks.

Following barmetoldbat's recent comment, I have said nothing against the duchess either. My complaint was against press photographers.

Everyone's maw gapes sometimes. But the number of photos of Kate with a gaping maw is, it seems to me, out of proportion to reality. That is my complaint.

Given the comments on this thread though, it seems I'm in a minority in preferring less gapiness of maw. So be it. Less gapiness of maw, in general, is still my preference.

Good old Kate! No wonder you're laughing.

If I had gnashers like hers, I’d get the Big Grin out as often as possible.

Oh, me too!
If only. ?

Barmeyoldbat Fri 04-Feb-22 16:32:56

Iam64 I have said nothing against Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge so what is your point. As forVb well I was comparing her with Catherine, anything wrong with that.

Iam64 Fri 04-Feb-22 13:39:08

Barneyoldbat, was there a need to have a go at Victoria Beckham? The majority of Responses here refer to the pressure on women in the public eye - that includes VB as well as KateM

Hey, now we've got a new thread about Carrie's grin. What's going on?

Lucca Fri 04-Feb-22 11:41:04

Same reason as Josieann

One of the most ridiculous threads I’ve seen started on GN.

I’d almost welcome the riveting ones about favourite dishcloths instead of this.

Then why engage with it?

Josieann Fri 04-Feb-22 09:31:51

I agree Lucca, and although I've returned to the thread too often for my own good, I still feel the OP needed it pointed out that yes, YABU.

Why are we women so critical of other women?

Isn't it enough that many men judge us on our appearance?

I'd like to know that too Dickens. And it isn't just on appearance. It's on behaviour and manners.

Calendargirl Fri 04-Feb-22 07:44:04

Would we rather she looked like Victoria (never smiles) Beckham?

Of course not.

grumppa Thu 03-Feb-22 22:50:24

The entire Royal Family is caught between a rock and a hard place: lips tightly shut to prevent any hint of a smile being construed as smugness, or happiness not shared by the rest of the population, or mouth wide open in horror at the incompetence of the government that rules in their name.

Galaxy Thu 03-Feb-22 22:15:25

Could you have got any more misogyny in one post?

Bridgeit Thu 03-Feb-22 21:06:50

What is it with women!
Men generally do not behave as badly to each other as we do!
Perhaps it is that we have inferiority complexes or just plain old spiteful jealousy , Hubble, bubble , toil & trouble …
