That’s the rub, Ali08. Only women (ie those of the female sex) can be pregnant, as only women have the female gametes required for reproduction. Males have male gametes and no amount of shouting or refusal to debate will change that - it’s like Knut shouting at the sea to change direction.

What your relative was asked was about her gender, which is different. Obviously she is female, or she wouldn’t be pregnant, but the question was because she could be a transman, who ‘identifies’ as a man, despite being in the ultimate female situation - that of childbirth.

When it comes to the delivery of the baby, however, Nature will take over, and no amount of ‘identification’ will change things, but the question is the perfect illustration of the difference between gender and sex. One can (arguably) be changed, so is pretty meaningless, and the other is fixed, so is not.

A woman in my family who is pregnant was told to fill in an online form, instead of seeing the usual people they'd see outside of pandemic times.
As well as being a long form it also asked what her gender was?
"Well I'm bloody pregnant, so what the hell do they think I am?!"

I would have said toilets were an easy issue to solve.

I, and my husband, have disabilities, and use (if available), the "disabled" loos. They are usually "gender neutral", single rooms, and it doesn't matter at all who uses them, because people go into them alone, one at a time, and no one is made to feel uncomfortable.

Surely, we could have gender neutral single room toilets for able bodied as well -then it wouldn't matter what sex are using the rooms. No one would feel uncomfortable. Some hospitals already do this.

But, I, personally, if I have to use a normal ladies loo, would prefer not to have males in there with me.

And, to be honest, my husband would prefer not to have females in the men's loos.

I'm sure we're not alone in that.

The final paragraph of your post @10.05 is precisely the issue MollyGo. I have to look sideways at the sports person who, having recently announced that they're now "a woman", would feel the need to parade around the women's shower rooms displaying their genitalia. It all seems so counter productive to being accepted as their new chosen gender and raises many questions for me as to their motive.

Given that trans people had been using the toilets they desired for decades without issue it made sense to protect that as a right.

Actually your statement has proved my point. (Someones usually shout “own goal” here.)
If it has been happening, it has been without issue . . . because transpeople have used the toilets without any ill intent.

Those transpeople would probably still go unnoticed, because, as has been correctly pointed out, most trans people go out of their way not to demonstrate that they are the sex they actually are.

The need for single sex toilets to become a right, has arisen because of the few transwomen who choose to use them with ill intent, whether that ill-intent is simply to display their bits, stroke their beards and leer to demonstrate they are male, showing that men’s rights override those of females, or for a more sinister or dangerous purpose.

A person's body remains female or male, regardless of any of those things being done to it.

2. With increasing numbers of people identifying as trans, and no way of knowing if they are doing it in good faith, there needs to be a new arrangement made to protect everyone's need for privacy, safety & dignity.

If a TW gives birth, it is a biological man, identifying as a woman, using the uterus of a biological woman, to give birth.

Men, whatever they identify as, cannot incubate and give birth to a child, on their own.

Mother Nature has decided that, in humans, only the female of the species can do this.

Science can get involved, with using DNA and trialling men developing their own uterus, if the various ethics organisations ever allow it, but nature doesn't change course, regardless of demands and protests.

At what point in their transition does their DNA change from male to female? Is it magic words, or maybe a magic ceremony? Do you think that a male who was given a female heart, kidney or liver in a transplant operation changed sex? If not, why not? What organ transplant changes a person's sex?

Of course Rosie and no one has said they are not valid and stating the biological fact that they are not women does not invalidate them.

Trans people exist and are valid, but they don't/can't change sex. Sex is immutable. Lord Winston had the guts to state that. I believe him and his superior knowledge rather than VioletSky (feel free to screenshot ) If I assert the earth is flat, climate change is bunkum, petrol does not pollute, Covid doesn't exist, and Trump was robbed of the election does this make it true?
