Going back to the Queen, I'm no royallist but there are a couple of parallels between her and Phillip and my dear Mum and Dad...not the cash and lifestyle obviously.
They were of an age, my mum was a Taurean and my dad Gemini the same as the Queen & Phillip. It's daft, I know, to use star sign qualities but each couples' devotion to each other, despite many ups and downs, is so similar and touches me greatly.

Mum was left alone and heartbroken when dad died and the image of QE so solitary at Phillip's funeral really resonated with me. Mum passed away at 93 but it's that continuum of living to such a great age together that's so poignant.

Getting sentimental, Glen Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" beautifully sums up the era when they started out their long and loving lives and makes me cry.

Well I don’t have any strong feelings about HM and she hasn’t been “there for me”- where exactly? She’s been in the papers and on telly and that’s about it. I’ve seen her in person about 4 times. I like her outfits and wish her well but I won’t be personally sad when she inevitably goes, I know I will get fed up with all the newspaper and tv specials we will have and all the funeral and coronation malarkey, which in no doubt is already planned.

I think the Queen, thrown into her role, has done a good job, but her relationship with her children have come at a cost, Duty first. I don’t agree with how she seemingly excuses Andrew. She has had a long happy marriage with th man she loved and however old or young you are when that person dies, you change.Yes she’s frail now but that’s how we all get with extreme old age. She understands that. I wouldn’t change my life for what she had, except I would have loved my husband to get old with me.

It does seem to be the case that just when a thread is going well and everyone is getting on nicely, certain posters come along,and ww3 seems to break out.
Each time this happens, the same names seem to crop up each time.

I’m a Scot and have been upset too that the Queen is looking so frail. I have so much respect for her. She has served all of the UK faithfully and shown great dignity in difficult situations. Please do not lump all Scottish people together. We do not all want independence and I find the comment’ignore the Scot’s’ quite offensive.

I am not a royalist but have great respect for the Queen. (With the exception of her continued support of Andrew).
When she goes, like paddyann, I think we should say enough is enough. Royalty is an anachronism which should be consigned to history.

Yes, I think she has been stalwart and I think she'd rather have led a quite different life than the one thrust upon her.

We would have to have a referendum (unless the Royal Family abdicated in total) as I don't think we'd have the appetite for another Revolution!

However, the outcome might be different if the Scots held a referendum first and gained their independence.

Personally I think Charles would be fine.
I've heard of several who have benefited from his charities and consequenly made a success of their lives.

Lucca your comment at 22.15 in reply to Bluebelle is exactly my sentiment. I don’t wish the Queen any harm, absolutely not, but I don’t think I’ll feel sad when she goes. I do at know her, and she doesn’t know me. I felt sorry for her at Prince Philip’s funeral, but not so happy at the memorial service when Andrew accompanied her, because of Andrew. I do think I’ll feel it’s the end of an era though. I’m not usually sad when famous very old people die, I just think they had a good, long life and not everyone does.

I've huge respect for our Queen but none whatsoever for those on here who state their anti monarchy views - and of course they have every right to have their views - in such unpleasant ways.

I wouldn't be surprised if she's still suffering the after-effects of Covid too.

Agree totally Bluebelle. Wish I could have as many years as that. I’ve nothing particularly against her but I will not feel sad, I don’t know her or feel anything for her. I’d be sad if a great figure like Attenborough died, or one of our wonderful actresses. I think she has had family troubles but who hasn’t ? I certainly would not say she had “been to hell and back”.

I don't agree with how they've behaved lately but I'm pleased that he's visited his grandmother.
I think at heart he's a decent person.

Those who are telling paddyann45 how ill mannered she is, might want to reflect on how tasteless it is to say you hope the queen will make it to the Jubilee or that she'll probably be gone by Christmas.
