to feel sad that the Queen looks so frail.

Its popped up on my newsfeed that the Queen will be missing another royal engagement. There were also pictures of her looking even more frail still. Yes I know it's understandable at her age.
And it struck me that even though I'm a a bit of a republican, I am going to really miss her when she's no longer here. I get the 'feeling' that all is not as well as we're being led to believe.
The Queen has been a big constant in all our lives for so long, that I think you'd have to be a hard hearted person not to feel saddened when she's no longer here.
She's done such a good job.

I am not hostile to the queen. My post says nothing like that

No, not really.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 17-Apr-22 09:44:56

Of course you are always so polite aren’t you volver?

volver Sun 17-Apr-22 09:36:52

I told you yesterday that I thought you were rude and nothing's changed.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 17-Apr-22 09:33:45

It’s a way of life for them rafichagran. They probably don’t realise how bitter they sound.

rafichagran Sun 17-Apr-22 09:31:25

Volver I dont feel sad, I just dont understand the hostility of some posters towards this hard working woman, who was born to this position and Carried out her duties long after others had retired.

volver Sun 17-Apr-22 09:15:16

We're on page 9.

Am I sad that the queen looks so frail? Well kind of. But not as much as when I see how frail my parents look, and all their pals. Not when I realise that my dad still continues volunteering work with ex-servicemen that doesn't involve having someone to break in his shoes for him in case he gets sore feeties, or having a piper to wake him up in the morning. Not when I realise that the 95-year old who helped fix DP's shed roof a few months ago after the storms, has now come down with COVID.

People are entitled to feel sad that she looks so frail. I have other priorities.

Lucca Sun 17-Apr-22 09:06:39

But there is only so much you can say ? She is 95. She looks frail apparently. Pretty expected I would say. Some feel sad about it. Some don’t.

rafichagran Sun 17-Apr-22 09:03:04

The title is about the Queen looking frail, I agree she does. I respect some people are Republican, but let's just concentrate on this lady, who is 95, has s very strong work ethic, and carried out her duties long after everyone I know has retired.
I really cannot understand some of the hostile comments here. Posters saying they disrespect her, why, the Queen did not choose to have money, wealth and position, she was born to it. She saw it as her duty to serve the country long after most people have given up their working lives.

How sad to not even know they think you're a pleb!

Isn't that Stockholm Syndrome?

?

AGAA4 Sun 17-Apr-22 08:52:21

Maddyone well said. I had a very anti royal mum who believed that nobody should bow or curtsy to anyone else.
She would have got on well with Paddyann in that respect.
I hope that all these titles will die out eventually. I really don't want King Charles and his whole family.

Anniebach Sun 17-Apr-22 08:44:35

How sad to think of one’s self a pleb and to think they have to call anyone Sir, or bow to anyone,

volver Sun 17-Apr-22 07:59:14

lemsip

volver you may recognise yourself as one, I certainly do not!

Doesn't matter how often you repeat it lemsip.

Compared to the Lords and Ladies, and Dukes and Earls, and Princes and Princesses, the ordinary folks are plebs.

By definition.

It's the way of the world.

My parents were royalists, I'm not so . I agree with Paddyann above. That said I was genuinely moved by the Queens speech at the beginning of Lockdown . There are lots of issues with privilege etc but on that occasion I found the fact she gave that speech strangely reassuring

lemsip Sun 17-Apr-22 07:37:49

volver you may recognise yourself as one, I certainly do not!

volver Sun 17-Apr-22 07:29:24

Thing is lemsip, we don't get to decide for ourselves whether or not we are plebs. It just our place in the world.

Excellent post maddyone, that's exactly the situation as I see it.

lemsip Sun 17-Apr-22 04:17:27

Maddyone
You may well be a 'pleb' ........... But,

., don't coat everyone with the same brush! I am certainly NOT!

Lucca Sun 17-Apr-22 02:44:27

Good post Maddyone.

For me, it’s the fact that society puts people into rank, much like the royal family do. With the royal family, the highest in rank always walks first, that’s the Queen, then next in rank, that’s Prince Charles, then next, Prince William, and so on. There’s a definite rank. All the knighthoods, and different honours are all to do with rank. So we, the plebs, are supposed to address certain people as Sir, or Your Majesty, or Ma’am etc. It’s a big topic so difficult to cover in a few words, but the fact is the royal family are the epitome of a society based on class. They’re at the top, and then down through all the Lords and Ladies, and Sirs and Dames, and Earls and Countesses, and so on we eventually get to us. The class system gives us little value. No title other than Mr, Mrs, Miss, and little value. No one curtsies or bows to us. Except when we’re dead, and then the undertaker bows to us.
Basically I agree with volver. The institution of monarchy is outdated and we need to place the same value on everyone. We should elect our Head of State. It’s the right thing to do in this day and age.

I have googled. Contrary to what appears to be popular opinion, I'm not an idiot.

Still wondering why we're "blessed" though.

I'm sorry to hear you've had Covid, I hope you are feeling OK.

The job of being Queen. Which is so mysterious nobody is willing to tell me what that is. Heigh ho.

surely it's not beyond you to google it, or is it?

Head of State, the highest representative of a sovereign state, who may or may not also be its head of government. The role of the head of state is primarily representative, serving to symbolize the unity and integrity of the state at home and abroad.

Bridgeit Sat 16-Apr-22 21:43:29

By the way it is not technically a job, perhaps start with understanding that.

Bridgeit Sat 16-Apr-22 21:42:28

Why not read up on it all.? Plenty of sites to visit .?
