For those complaining I'm DISRESPECTFUL ,can I just say you are absolutely right.I have never felt any respect for any Royal .The whole system fills me with distaste .Quite why everyone is expected to be broken hearted over a very privileged old woman who hasn't ACTUALLY worked her whole life is ridiculous and she has been overpaid for doing it.If ALL old people had been treated with just a smidgeon of the care she has it would be a far better country.

Instead we hand hundreds of millions every year to her to keep her brood in the style THEY think they are entitled to!

As Volver said Independence for Scotland and the monarchy are two seperate issues and will be a question for US when we gain our Independence

I know someone who worked for The Prince's Trust and it has really helped a lot of young people who might have struggled or gone astray otherwise.

I will be quite sad when the Queen goes, because it will signify to me the end of an era. I don’t hold any particular affection for her because I don’t know her. I think she should have gone long ago, by that I mean retired because her son has been trained for his role from the beginning of his life. I think she’s a very privileged woman who has had a lovely life being looked after by others. She does provide a lot of jobs though so that’s a good thing.
I would prefer to live in a republic. I dislike the extreme privilege, I find it rather distasteful. I dislike the way a monarchy forces us to live in a society where some people are considered to be more worthy than others.

I was born in 1944 so of course I remember the queen being crowned. We got a TV for the occasion and most of the street came in to stare at that 12 inch screen.

I also remember the king dying. We only had a radio then and I was complaining about all the solemn music as I wanted to listen to Radio Luxemburg. My mother snapped "Have some respect. The king's dead"

My parents were not strong monarchists but they were very sad at his passing as they felt he had seen them through the war.

It will be the end of an era when the queen passes.

It's up to us, who vote for the Government at any one time and that Government which decides how public finances are allocated.
The Sovereign Grant is a minute proportion of our public finances.

We'd still have to fund a Head of State and some have a habit of being extremely extravagant and profligate.

What she does with her private money is her business but I'll hazard a guess that a great deal goes to good causes.

According to many sources, a Labour PM was HM's favourite and we don't know what she thinks of the present PM and Government.

paddy is always forthright, but she isn't saying anything that hasn't already been said, so it doesn't offend me.

Just to say that I think that Queenie is determined to make that 70th Jubilee and will cancel all else until then.

Honestly, I am amazed at how many people have concerns for the richest and most priviledged woman in the world. Priviledged on OUR money!!!

So very many people both in this country and all over the world who are in such dreadfully sad circumstances, little or no medical care, poor, or no housing, lacking ability to keep warm, eat properly, etc. etc.

I imagine that so many on here are who so concerned were amongst those who bayed for her blood when her ex-daughter in law, died in a car with her lover.

Yes, I am, have always been, will always be a republican. I give respect to those I feel have earned it. Do not think that particular old woman has done so for me.

Well I don’t have any strong feelings about HM and she hasn’t been “there for me”- where exactly? She’s been in the papers and on telly and that’s about it. I’ve seen her in person about 4 times. I like her outfits and wish her well but I won’t be personally sad when she inevitably goes, I know I will get fed up with all the newspaper and tv specials we will have and all the funeral and coronation malarkey, which in no doubt is already planned.

I think the Queen has done a good job and I definitely do not know of anyone else who kept working until they were 95.
