I checked out my shopping at a serviced till yesterday and for the entire transaction the staff member was on a personal call on her mobile (she had a headset on). Didn’t speak to me once until she just asked if I wanted a receipt. I couldn’t believe it - how rude! Would this annoy you?

Am very surprised that this would be allowed in any supermarket. There are normally supervisors around all the time to check on all the tills. Out of interest, which location was this in?

Can't work out your username either!

Who is Bolger?

Just asking ?

I'm mortally offended smile

The same thing happened to me at the Co-op last year where, usually, the staff are courteous, smiley and helpful. I put details of the incident on the online survey form which their receipt urges you to complete. That same cashier is still there, perfectly polite and not a glimpse of her mobile phone or Bluetooth headset. Of course, I've no idea if the improvement is down to me or not!

Tesco started to allow staff to have mobiles on them so they could look things up for customers.
They are absolutely not allowed to be on personal calls, tho.

Does anyone remember Bodger and Badger? Sorry derailing the thread.

MawtheMerrier Tue 07-Jun-22 15:03:19

Could have been (even) worse Volver - Bodger ? Codger ? ???

Bolger she most definitely was not on a store based call. She was talking about her holiday

I think not bothering to address other Gransnetters by their correct username is very rude myself.

Esspee Tue 07-Jun-22 14:42:48

Send a photo of your receipt with your complaint. That will allow them to identify the member of staff.

Daisend1 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:39:55

Complain to head office not directly to the store.

MawtheMerrier Tue 07-Jun-22 14:37:12

Instead of "raising a holy stink" how about asking calmly and not unreasonably if she would mind paying attention to her customer?

BlueBelle Tue 07-Jun-22 14:32:42

Complaint needed she can’t concentrate on prices whilst talking about her holiday and down right rude I d have told her to finish the call before doing my goods I think

AGAA4 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:26:29

Poor customer service. Even if the call had been work related she should have apologised to you and cut it short.

Jaxjacky Tue 07-Jun-22 13:58:23

Did you complain in the store?

volver Tue 07-Jun-22 13:48:50

I take it that's for me?

howdigetthisold Tue 07-Jun-22 13:48:01

aggie Tue 07-Jun-22 13:39:41

Wouldn’t annoy me , I’m usually trying to keep up with the items flying through the scanner , and the stress exacerbates my deafness ! Just glad to get out of the place

volver Tue 07-Jun-22 13:33:12

If she had her headset on perhaps she was in communication with other staff in the store? Highly unlikely that she was having a personal phone call.

I would email or call the store and complain .
Really surprised that they were allowed to have their phone with them to be on a call in the first place!
Fair enough if it was an emergency (kids sick at school, relative in hospital etc) but to be chatting away to someone and only paying half attention to her job is certainly not on !

H1954 Tue 07-Jun-22 13:30:01

I would have created holy stink .......... she could very easily have scanned an item twice thus overcharging you or missed something altogether which would have looked suspicious on you! Her mind should be on the job, when I worked a seasonal job in a local supermarket our mobiles had to be left in our lockers......so exceptions either.

Yammy Tue 07-Jun-22 13:27:33

You should have reported her.

Bellanonna Tue 07-Jun-22 13:26:51

I’m surprised. I’d have thought Waitrose had excellent training for their staff.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-Jun-22 13:24:44

Not acceptable.
