The worst "naughty" thing you did as a child?

My father took weeks to panel the hall and stairs and stain it.
I had just learned to write my name and deeply scratched it into the bannister.
When confronted I blamed my teenage cousin with whom I shared a name She had been nowhere near the house.'I was punished not for what I did but for lying and blaming someone else.
DH says his was to get three other boys to sneak away from school through long grass ,walk along the beach so they would not be seen. They were caught playing on the busy deep docks a few miles away.

I was once playing out with a classmate, when we (or rather I blush) decided it would be funny to call another girl from a phonebox and ask her if she wanted to come down to my house to play. Naturally, I wasn't there when she arrived, so she had to go home again.
I was about 10 at the time. I was a horrible thing to do, and although I never really got in trouble for it, I am still embarrassed and ashamed of it to this day.

My young sister was a beautiful child...Wee chubby face with lots of blonde curly hair....Everywhere my mum took us people commented on her looks....Mum took us to get photos taken and of course she was gorgeous in them....I decided to get back at her and cut her head off the photos....1 was 6 and she was three....I got a good spanking and put to bed....We still laugh about it to this day....

We had a full glass front door. I must have been about six. Came home from school and had a tantrum over something. In a temper kicked at the door and broke the glass. Decided to run away from home but got as far as the end of the road and realised I hadn't had my tea and I was hungry so went home. Never told anyone I was going to run away ? Can't even remember getting into trouble for breaking the glass, although I probably did, but I do remember being hungry ?

When my sister was born I was so naughty and jealous that my mother said I could not have a birthday party. Not to be outdone I sent out notes to about a dozen of my friends inviting them to a party that saturday. Of course they all turned up with presents and there was nothing prepared. My mother sent them all home and told them to come back next day. At least I got my party!

My favorite trick was to tie two door knockers together when the doors were side by side and then ring both bells. Of course neither door could be opened unless the occupants came around from the back. We were well away by then.

Another time I tied my sister to a lamp post, piled up branches around her feet, and told her I was going to burn her at the stake like Joan of Ark. Then I told her I was going to get matches. Fortunately a neighbour heard her crying. I got a good whalloping for that!

Hid my sister’s best doll, denied any knowledge of where it was when mummy asked me. At bed time whispered to my sister that he’d probably run away to fairy land because she smacked his hand when playing school with her dollies all lined up as pupils. I kept this up for a few days ?

We used to have a key on a string through the letterbox .one time when I had been out with a friend I some how dropped it ,I went to friends house and pretended I hadn't been home ,step dad had to climb through window.

I was playing hide and seek with 2 friends. We had agreed that we would not hide in top floor bedrooms but the friend and I decided to go up anyway and hid under my bed. The 3rd one was looking for us for ages but never came upstairs so we stayed hidden.
She eventually reported to my mother that we were missing and the other parents were called. We could hear them shouting for us but stayed hidden as we knew we would be in trouble.
I think they were on the verge of calling the police as there was a deep, water-filled quarry behind our houses, when we finally came out! Can't remember the consequences- they may not have been too bad as the relief of finding us was so great!

Honesty i was never naughty, but mischievous.
My older sister was a bully to me and the other siblings,i was second eldest.
I got sick of her bullyng me,so one day when our parents were at work our job was to clean the lounge my sisters job was to get the vegetables ready for when mom got home,i found the peeler and hid it,sister was going spare and asked me to look for it ,i said nope.
Long story short, she told mom she couldn`t do the veg as she couldn`t find the peeler.
After about 10 minutes i got the peeler out and took it to mom and said it was in the drawer all along, she was just being lazy reading Jackie.
When my dad heard of what happened he looked at me with a glint in his eye and a smirk on his face and shook his head, walked past me,rubbed the top of my head and burst out laughing.
That`s just one story of course.

I was slow learning to read. My mother's friend used to visit daily and berate me for not being able to read, yet watch TV. One day I asked my parents to sign their names under my own near the bottom of a blank sheet where I wrote and told the woman that we didn't like her and not to return to our house and slipped it through her letterbox. This mystified my mother as to why her friend stopped visiting. I told them all I could read but no one was listening...

My brother and I used to lock our little sister in the broom cupboard under the stairs. She was blonde and blue eyed and we hated her.

A couple of friends and I took about a dozen cards advertising double glazing from a showroom. We filled them in with the addresses of other friends' parents asking for a salesman to call to discuss new windows. Then we posted them. Apparently, we heard later, one person did actually place an order!

Mum planted a special variety of tulips and was looking forward to seeing them. In the Spring when she went in the garden I had popped all the new buds open. She said she could have cried. Fortunately they recovered. I was only about 3 and didn’t really mean to be naughty.

I was naughty, however, when I was older deliberately popping the buds open of her prize fuschias - when she wasn’t looking! It makes a very satisfying sound.

I pushed Mary Smith's face into the tap when she was drinking from it in the girls'cloakroom at school, I did it because she and her friend wouldn't let me near the sink to wash the paintbrushes ( I was paintbrush monitor, clearly she was jealous) and blocked it until playtime. I bided my time, washed the brushes and gave her a shove when she came in for a drink.
I was punished by having to spend the last lesson with the infants and as they had a music lesson rather than maths I thoroughly enjoyed it. I still don't feel any guilt about it.

We had some little Easter eggs one Easter, they were set in a cardboard clock face, 12 of them. My sister and I had a set each.

Can’t quite remember all the details, but think I ate an extra couple of mine, then cried and blamed my sister, saying she had eaten them. Dad smacked my sister for lying, as she denied it (obviously).

Don’t think I ever owned up!

blush

Neighbour and I had a little post box in the hedge and sent each other messages..I put in a note saying I would blackmail this other girl if she didn't pay me a shilling. Of course friend showed her the note and her father called round to complain.

I know someone, not me who did that with all the companies in the Readers Digest they filled in the neighbour's addresses but were daft enough to miss out their own parents.
I'm glad I,m not the only one who was naughty as a little child I got tamer as I got older.

We used to knock at doors and run away.

Then when I was a young teenager my friend and I decided to go out in the middle of the night. Why I don't know, just an adventure I suppose. We walked to the main road and immediately got picked up by a Police car. Would that happen today?

I opened the budgies cage and the window beside it and set him free, even at 5 I thought it was cruel to cage a bird who should be flying free ,Mum and Dad said they would get another one but never did ,Think they were worried I'd do it again ,they did explain the poor thing was at risk from wild birds so I dont think I would have ...but I still thought I was right.

Burglary.
I was 8 years old and was playing with a gang of fellow street urchins in inner city Birmingham. The factory behind our houses was where brass and copper pipes were trimmed and finished. If you shinned up a drainpipe, you could climb through a broken window into a room full of nice shiny offcuts.
I was the one who could climb up the drainpipe and into the store room so I did.
I passed the metal out to my friends. What I didn't know was that the father of one of them was selling it for scrap.

One day I came home from school for lunch and my father was waiting for me. I was marched round to the factory where 2 police officers were waiting. They were colleagues of my dad's as he was a special constable at the local police station.

I was given a stern talking to and made to promise never to do it again.
I'm proud to say that I have never got involved in criminality since. ??

nadateturbe Tue 19-Jul-22 16:37:51

These are brilliant. I'm shocked at what some of you did.
When I was sixteen I took some of my dad's single records to the secondhand market stall and sold them and bought cigarettes. He missed them, but I never owned up.

My brother had a wooden fort we were playing Cowboys and Indians. I loved those films especially with John Wayne in. We decided to do what we thought was done to flush out the enemy. We actually set fire to the fort this was upstairs in a bed room. I don't know how old we were but what a stupid thing to do! Both our parents were at work it's a good job our older sisters where in the house.

BigBertha1 Tue 19-Jul-22 16:59:34

Existed according to my mother.
