AIBU to think that jokes about rape and killing women whatever the context are completely unacceptable and to women not funny at all.
Frankie Boyle, addressed a controversial stand up routine at the Latitude Festival recently in which he joked about raping and murdering tv presenter Holly Willoughby, he argued that the so called "joke" came within a wider context.
This is the context: in describing a game about killing and shagging people he included HW, he said this "I'd obviously kill and rape her afterwards, I'm only joking I'd rape her first"
AIBU, given the all too recent Sarah Everard case and the umpteen other women who will have been raped and kill by men his remarks are reprehensible. How is he getting away with this?

Would you defend Boyle quite so vehemently if he were English, Volver?
???
Och aye!
It's free speech innit.
Let's all be politically incorrect and see where it gets us.WTAF?
Seriously?
We've done the Scottish thing already. RTFT.
You're ridiculous.
You're ridiculous
Your view.
No-one else's as far as I know.
I won't report that post, it's just ridiculous ???

Well we'll all have to agree to differ, won't we.
And still, none of us have heard the joke, however much we think we have.
So you haven't heard it either, volver, even though you appear to be defending it?
Or do you frequent Boyle's stand-ups?
Do not need to hear a joke referencing rape in order to know that I will find it in bad taste, not appropriate and not funny.

Yeah I'll own that remark to which you refer, He has a catalogue of horrible undermining put downs about women . I have formed , NOT jumped to conclusions based on those truly reprehensible observations he has made. He doesn't have to put out such undermining, personal remarks about various women into the public domain so they can be mocked, ridiculed and sniggered at .Surely anyone, especially those who have been gifted a brain can fathom that out. Anyway who is he to comment on Rebecca Addlington's looks?
The self appointed Misandry Officer who stalked the GN forums has either retired or from what I heard has been cancelled, there doesn't seem to be anyone else who desires to step up to the plate, so for the time being Misandry Wars appear to be having a hiatus. As Callistemon has so rightly pointed out we have a good old dose of "goadyfuckery" in
their place.
He was heard to say it in front of the crowd at the Latitude festival. Several hundred people have verified that. He was questioned about it later by festival goers who had been in the audience and had heard the routine that he says justifies it.
So you can’t really cite the Daily Mail as the source
But I understand that you didn’t hear the joke so can’t really comment on why he thought it was funny.

I begin to suspect you’re enjoying irritating, provoking, goading and criticising others on this thread, rather too much volver. Of course, we all find our entertainment where we can.
I haven't found it funny because I haven't heard it.
And neither have you.
You've only read what the Daily Mail have said, which has then been reported by other media.
You, however, have jumped to the conclusion it's not funny because you have assumed you are hearing the whole thing, and because you don't normally find Boyle funny.
Well no. I don’t suppose I would “get it” in that it still wouldn’t make me laugh.
But people can explain why they found something funny.
“It was the play on words”
“It was the look on her face”
“I didn’t see that punch line coming”
So, what was it that you found funny?
No, neither could I ??
Sorry, can't remember .....
And what if someone started a thread about a particular topic several months ago and is accused, with details, of starting a thread about an entirely different topic. Is that bound to happen? Or is it just a little bit ... creepy?

I don't agree with Volver and her enjoyment of FB.
But she does have a point with this statment. It really worries me how much people remember about what I post. Is this stalking?
Volver, the answer is yes. Some GN members do searches, to find stuff from way back, to then bring up to attack members they dislike with. It'll only be specific members. Most wouldn''t do it/couldn't be ar**d.
I would not search for anything (perhaps if it was, for example, Lucca's lasagne recipe) , but I suppose if something rankles personally then some people are bound to remember it if it's addressed to them or ? they posted it and it inadvertently upset someone.

I like evidence-based facts.
But I'm not going to do a forensic search of GN.
It's not worthy of my time. That's perfectly valid *Callistemon21", I think. Maybe you can have a word with some other posters?
GagaJo, I just want to acknowledge your post of 18:50, thank you.
Please do
Chat away, don't mind me ?
Lots of people leave stand up shows in my experience. As I said up thread the audience has its own boundaries

I just don’t see how it’s a joke any more than “I’ll have a drink before dinner. No, I think I’ll have dinner first”
No exactly rolling in aisles stuff, is it.
Very willing for you to explain why it would be funny.
Well as that wasn't the meaning of the joke, I won't bother. If you have to explain "funny" to people, they'll never get it, will they?

In my opening post I didn't bring FB Scottishness into the argument, because that is irrelevant to me, for what it's worth I can't stand thoroughly English Jim Davidson either or any other so called comedians like the late Bernard Manning who traded on casual misogyny as part of their act. I did however ponder on whether your defence of FB was POSSIBLY but not categorically because he was Scottish perhaps I didn't express that well enough.
Whether FB was taken out of context , using a high profile person's name to weigh up the pros and cons of the acceptability of a "joke " pondering on whether it would be preferable in raping and killing or killing and then raping HW in the age of the incel is giving out a dangerous message with the intent of the comment. To a warped mind already fired up with a desire to hurt women who knows what could prove a trigger. Famous women have stalkers so to put such a high profile name as HW into that context is irresponsible and I imagine FB knows it is, but as with previous salacious comments about other well known women he just doesn't care. Perhaps Holly Willoughby will!
So we can't make a judgement without listening to his preamble verbatim, maybe he's not worth listening to, having already made the salacious comments about Katie Price and her disabled son up thread, yeah historical, but so what! so are a lot of grievances on GN certain posters are selective in what they can move on from!
Even the Guardian called him out on his vile remarks about Rebecca Addlington's looks, which he returned to not once but twice, are these comments from someone who resembles a Greek God, hardly more like a bag of spanners! Did Rebecca Addlington winner of Gold medals deserve to have such mean spirited put downs she never sought to trade on her appearance did nothing to deserve that crock of shitand from what I read at the time felt very undermined by those remarks.
Well to quote Dianne Abbott it's very hard to defend the indefensible. I can't understand why any woman would
Of course. This is perfectly rational and nothing to do with the Scots.
What else can I think of to describe two such individuals, one leans to the right (probably extreme right) one to the left, one's English, aren't we lucky! and the other, hang on a moment I do believe is Scottish shock could that be a factor in comments such as making assumptions about him by the anti Meghan brigade, -- like what the f**k has she got to do with this thread-- other than you making assumptions about certain posters and I might just say to use one of your favoured expression "you don't get to do that!" but telling anyone what they can and can't do on a public forum sort of suggests an air of superiority so I wont! I can only conclude therefore it's a touch of "is it cos I's Scots". I hate to sound like Mrs Thatcher but it's a, NO! NO! NO! we care not where he's from we object to him because he is vile to women and disabled children and disabled people.
As for your last paragraph. This woman has a brain and doesn't jump to conclusions. And doesn't feel that criticising a man's appearance is acceptable because they don't like him. Are we going to have the Misandry Wars again? ?
