I guess I must be getting older and grumpier! I used to go with the flow.

I cannot stand
Woke, wokery.
This arvo,
Somethink.
The olds (I do sometimes laugh at that).
Bit (of water)ie drop.

Mind you guess I am very lucky if that’s all I have to worry about.

What are your pet hate words.

Baby steps can be useful when describing any long process or journey which has to be undertaken slowly bit by bit. It's a lot shorter for a start!

Yammy

Woke
Wokery
passed instead of died
"As I was saying", to butt in on your answer to what they had finished saying
"Excuse me" when it is used not in the polite form but as a way of butting inhmm

Woke and wokery describes very well the ridiculous nonsense that appears these days such as:
York Dungeon was asked to change the name of its Dick Turpin carriage ride to 'Richard' because some woke parents found it offensive.
I think wokery is absolutely the right word for such idiocy.
They refused by the way.

Fur babies. ?

Washerwoman Tue 09-Aug-22 08:10:47

I know not everyone will agree but personally hate the use of the word passed instead of died.

BrandyGran Tue 09-Aug-22 15:08:35

No pressure then! (Bargain Hunt) . Amazing! (Everything)

BrandyGran Tue 09-Aug-22 15:15:40

And “Thankyou Richard “on Pointless. Alexander Armstrong must say that about 50 times during the program. It drives me mad!!!

Grandma70s Tue 09-Aug-22 15:52:32

“Wow!”. This word didn’t exist when I was young, and we managed perfectly well without it.

EkwaNimitee Tue 09-Aug-22 16:12:30

Gonna instead of going to, gotten (if you're not an american), ain't, passed (instead of died), tuh instead of to. Fur baby for a dog has me reaching for the sick bag. I'm sure there's more, I'm a bit of a pedant too! I try not to let these little things irritate me but you can regularly catch me muttering at various media

HowVeryDareYou Tue 09-Aug-22 16:21:27

Can I get
Bunch of (to describe almost everything, it seems)
the over-use of the word awesome
hubby
furbaby
lost or passed, instead of died

clementine Tue 09-Aug-22 16:23:01

Get go , drives me mad, and saying the floor when it's outside and it's the ground !

Barmeyoldbat Tue 09-Aug-22 16:58:18

Hate , little man, fur babies, g o o o d boy said in that awful way to dogs and children. The over use of the word impact and lastly gotten. Oh yes and lost and passed instead of died. My friend contacted me to say she had lost her mum, I relied, without thinking have the police been informed?

LiliWenFach44 Wed 10-Aug-22 11:14:42

You guys.
Enjoy!
Passed Away.

KitKit Wed 10-Aug-22 11:18:01

Unprecedented. If I had a pound for every time this word is used….

Ninananny Wed 10-Aug-22 11:21:48

We'll "unpack" that later - when someone wants to explain something......

Quaver22 Wed 10-Aug-22 11:25:58

Palpable

winifred01 Wed 10-Aug-22 11:26:31

Somebody has 'passed'
What driving test? A levels?
No they have died!!

Grantanow Wed 10-Aug-22 11:33:51

Liz Truss

jerseygirl Wed 10-Aug-22 11:35:02

I agree with sonethink, even news presenters say this!!
Pacific instead of specific
and people who say yes no in a conversation

LisaP Wed 10-Aug-22 11:41:40

I dont really know what 'woke' means

Cringeworthy phrases in the office for me ...

'Hit the gound running'
'Reach Out to...'
'Going forward'

I have just realised I do say 'Can I Get'

I also dont understand why every sentance needs to start with 'So' and dont get me started on the Like after every other word..

sundowngirl Wed 10-Aug-22 11:43:18

My bad
Sick
Would of, could of - instead of have
I'm good instead of well
Haitch
Pacific instead of specific

DeliaT Wed 10-Aug-22 11:44:36

Almost or nearly unique. It either is or isn’t unique!
Anythink, somethink
At this moment in time. What’s wrong with ‘now’
Hollibobs. A ridiculous expression.

Nansypansy Wed 10-Aug-22 11:44:38

AS when it should be HAS

Foxyferret Wed 10-Aug-22 11:45:20

Awesome when used to describe trivial items as in those shoes are awesome. “Like”every other word.” I mean” at the start of sentences. “pushing the envelope” how ridiculous.

lizzypopbottle Wed 10-Aug-22 11:46:59

'People that' instead of 'people who'. 'That' is for animals and things.

TiggyW Wed 10-Aug-22 11:48:20

‘For sure’ - only second language speakers seem to say it.?
‘Amazing’
‘The run up to…’
‘Could of/would of’, etc. ?
‘Are you okay there?’ (Shop assistants)
‘Take care’ ????
‘So’ at the beginning of a sentence
‘Absolutely’
‘F**k’ on TV
Just a few of my pet hates!
