I guess I must be getting older and grumpier! I used to go with the flow.

I cannot stand
Woke, wokery.
This arvo,
Somethink.
The olds (I do sometimes laugh at that).
Bit (of water)ie drop.

Mind you guess I am very lucky if that’s all I have to worry about.

What are your pet hate words.

Fur baby and uni make me cringe, but the the one word I can't bear is - snuck!

FarNorth Mon 08-Aug-22 13:29:37

I really like the expression "drives me up the wall".
I haven't heard it for yonks!

Fleurpepper Mon 08-Aug-22 13:30:31

You have all given me a good laugh. I must say, there are so many problems in the world now, I just can't get worked up about 'words'.

The use of "loving" eg I'm loving this and loving that! People starting an answer with "So" when they have been asked a question. That is very common on the radio.

‘It is what it is’
‘Can I get …..?’
Both irritate me to death.

Skedule instead of schedule (it’s ok for those from the US)
We must unpack the problem
Thinkin, doin, etc . What’s happened to the letter g?
Advertizzzzement instead of advertisement.

When my brain is working on full capacity I will return with a weather word always mispronounced by the weather people. ?

NanKate Mon 08-Aug-22 14:30:29

You’ve started me now !

Haitch
Burfday (my son says this but I don’t want to say ‘there is no F in birthday’ in case he thinks I’m swearing ?

Everything happens for a reason.

Elizabeth27

Everything happens for a reason.

But it does!

People who say things without sincerity. My boss for example regularly tells me 'that's amazing' but his eyes are dead and I'm sure he has read it in a 'how to motivate your staff' management book

Grandma70s Mon 08-Aug-22 15:49:54

NanKate -

Haitch drives me crazy!

JaneJudge Mon 08-Aug-22 19:56:02

grumppa Mon 08-Aug-22 20:03:32

Virtually all of the above, plus kilometre with the stress on the second syllable, as in gasometer. Nobody pronounces millimetre or centimetre like this.

But I happy with jab for vaccination.

GrandmaRosie Mon 08-Aug-22 20:14:55

Anyone who tells me ‘amazing’ following a normal day to day interaction, such as paying for something. Also ‘can I get’. Completely wrong!!

Socksandsocks01 Mon 08-Aug-22 20:19:10

There you go. I'll pop that in there. Think outside the box. Going forward. Other office buzz words. I need it. No you don't need it at all. And princess. Everyone expects special treatment

Floradora9 Mon 08-Aug-22 21:26:26

I hate
It would be rude not to ( have a cake etc. )
Describing an object as a " bad boy "
Calling a small boy " little man "
Calling a dog a fur baby.
I hear a lot of phrases which are now truncated like " he has his head screwed on " We would say after that " the right way "

Peeps.
Baby steps.

Betsylee Mon 08-Aug-22 22:31:50

Super good or super easy instead of very, drives me mad and seeems to be increasing in use! Drives me mad.

Deedaa Mon 08-Aug-22 22:47:19

Going forward, my bad and can I get? are particular hates of mine. A lot of the words people are hating are ones that don't really bother me at all (am I broad minded or just lazy?) I have found the expression Baby steps very useful when talking to people in a cancer support group. It describes the recovery process very well.
