The junior in the hairdresser was asking the usual questions about the weekend, and I said that I was going to a music gig with my son as a birthday present. She looked at me as though I was 100 (not that it would have mattered if I had been) and said 'bless' with her head tilted to one side. I was unimpressed!

You know. As in I started doing X you know and then had to do Y, you know. I was busy and I didn't like it, you know! No, I don't know!

I mean... lots of celebs start their sentences with this. Listen..... again used by TV presenters. I think it's very rude to insist you listen to them.
Absolutely right. Quiz show presenters such as Alexander Armstrong use this to excess. It should just be right.

Adjective 'quite' - it seems to prefix/qualify so many words. Also 'incredible' is often overused in documentaries (Prof Alice Fowler)

'Very unique' - it's either unique or it isn't.
"I feel very humbled to have been offered this job' - no, not humbled, should be 'honoured".

'Less' when it should be 'fewer'.

"I am a friend of Christine's". No - You are a friend of Christine.

Usernametaken, yes. It always reminds me of being assigned someone to do a project with in school. It also makes me think that whoever is using it is trying to put distance between themselves and the person to whom they refer.

Big Bertha, THANK YOU!!! I'm on other side of the pond, and constantly saying (when I rarely do see a US program), why can't they do something just a little bit classier like the Brits do? I am so everlastingly sick and tired of them taking God's name in vain and using that word. It's just not necessary. There are a whole lot of stories that are truly interesting enough on their own; they don't need to be dirtied up to get my attention. Having said that, I rarely watch regular US television because it is the absolute drags of what can be seen on the box.

My brother is always saying “I turned around and said …..”.
He also says “I’m going now” when he wants to get the last word in towards the end of a discussion. ?
