I am sick of seeing pictures like this all over social media AIBU?

More and more people are now offloading their dogs as they realise they can't afford them anymore with the costs of living rising so much!!!

The dog might be a staffie but it might be a staffie x bull breed. It doesn’t matter what breed the dog is. The owner and training of the dog matters a lot. Sadly staffie, pit bulls, xlbully breeds are often in the hands of the wrong owners or handlers. They’re big powerful dogs and are often used as status dogs by thugs/drug dealers.

I’m not brain washed by the media. I’ve always lived with dogs, I’ve rescued, fostered and had a number of puppies.

Report it. They shouldn’t be looking after a baby, obviously the dog is their priority. Don’t care how lovely staffies are. I agree, but that’s plain stupid any dog can turn, any dog, tgey can also get playful as if tgey are playing with a rag doll. A family of dog lovers here always had two, children however, especially tiny babies like that come way higher. They should not be looking after a child totally irresponsible.. It made my blood run cold at the stupidity.

A niece of dh and her husband sent us photos of all 3 of their newborn babies, cuddled up close to one or other of the admittedly fairly elderly dogs they’d had for ages.

They are both doctors - she an A&E consultant, he an orthopaedic surgeon. Just saying.

You are being totally unreasonable. That is a Staffie in the picture. Staffies adore children (I have two) they are loving,kind,gentle and easily trainable. My boy plays with my grandkids gently and he loves to give them a few kisses too. Stop listening to the media. The media only report dog bites when it's a Bull breed. But the fact is labradors have attacked more than any Bull breed. Jack Russell have killed babies and German Shepherds/Poodles/Yorkshire terriers etc have been known to cause horrendous injuries. You are uneducated and brain washed. Ask the RSPCA and Crafts they will put you right.

Jack Russells, poodles and Yorkshire terriers have caused horrific injuries - you said it yourself - no dog can be safely left with children.

I have 2 spaniels atm, and have had dogs all my life. First was a border collie puppy when we fostered children
Pup was well socialised with the children from when we got it at 7weeks old. Was lovely to all of them but never left alone. Then we had 2 rescue dogs, a staffie x lab puppy at 5 months old, and a real mix of a dog who was 2. Staffie pup had been with kids in the last home so no problem there. Other dog had been abused as would run under the table if you picked up a mop or brush to clean. Was unsafe with small children and dog aggressive out of the home. My DC were adult then so ok but we used a muzzle when DGC visited or out on a walk.
My present 2 spaniels were brought up with DGD as DD lived with us. Also many friends children visited regularly. They are also trained to stop and return to me if I see them approaching children in a park. I have a special word I use.
The key to having a child safe dog is early socialisation with children of all ages. When I bred a litter they were around children from 3 weeks old. Children are unpredictable and puppies need to understand this and expect it. It's too late when the dog is an adult.

You never know. Supervision and socialisation is paramount.

Staffielover, you are entitled, of course, to your opinion, but Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not necessarily all the same, and it seems from this thread that most of us would not allow one (or a dog of any of the other breeds you mention) to be alone with our DGC.

I too, am entitled to my opinion. I would not refer to a dog as "my boy", and I hate to see a dog giving anyone "kisses" - do you know where his nose & mouth have just been? (Anyone who watches a dog for any length of time has a pretty good idea...)

I knew of someone who said their dogs would never hurt a fly, never mind their small children. Lots of similar photos etc.

All good until one day one of the dogs attacked one of the children. Over two years of plastic surgery operations to reconstruct the child's face and hands. Both dogs were PTS immediately.

Feel quite sick too. I work in childcare and that to me is a safeguarding issue the dog being so close. Can’t believe it.

More and more people are buying dogs, particularly some of the more unpredictable breeds, American Bully etc.
It’s one thing to own such a dog with children in the home but to post pictures like this, putting a child in danger and trying to humanise the animal is in my opinion abuse.
The child is at great risk.

Not unreasonable at all, I hate these photos too. Some friends of ours had always had a family dog and had had eight happy years with an Irish wolf hound which was as gentle as they come. When she died, they bought a second wolf hound, from the same breeder. Everything was fine, again a gentle giant joined their family. Then one day when the second dog was four or five years old, our friend was walking across the kitchen, past the dog which was lying on his bed in one corner. Something spooked the dog, and he attacked. Our friend was in hospital for a few days as a result of the bites, and badly shaken, horrified by what could have happened. No dog should ever be left alone with children.

My facebook page receives quite a few posed animal pictures supposed to be CUTE ! One of my FB friends is obviously taken in by these and sends some of them to me.

Yes, you could look on it as the dog thinking that he/she will be loving and protective towards the baby or that it is regarding it as a threat and it's waiting its time to attack.

Last week in our area, a dog walker was killed by this sort of dog. He was 34. If a man who was known to be good with dogs can't defend himself, what chance a child or baby?

Never, ever leave a child and dog alone.

Me too. I had a physical reaction to it and immediately felt anxious.
How can parents be so stupid with their precious baby?

We have a rescue border collie, he is very unpredictable. He doesn't bark and doesn't give any warning. He is kept on a lead except for the dog park with his friend. He was very badly treated by his last owners with children, hit and kicked and although he is now almost 11 it has scarred him. He is afraid of so many things, stairs , enclosed spaces etc.
I don't allow strange people including children that run up to him, he is a lovely looking dog, to stroke him.
Our granddaughter is almost 6, she is never allowed to be alone with him, although he does except and like her, she is very gentle with him.. he has never growled at her but l woul
d never trust him, he is too damaged by his past. She would never be allowed to sit with on the floor.

I am fond of dogs but that is what they are- Dogs!! I hear people say " oh he is absolutely harmless, so friendly and trustworthy " However no dog can be fully trustworthy and allowing any dog to snuggle up close to a child is so foolish . Far too many children / adults savaged by dogs!!
