Doesn’t bother me at all. I believe you’ve have to be contacted by the media initially and I wouldn’t speak to nor read the DM if my life depended on it ! Lol !
Being asked for an honest opinion
All most daily you see a post from either Gransnet or Mumsnet being used as a "story" by one of the newspapers or news feeds. Does this chance of being outed put you off posting things sometime? Or do you think it is a chance worth taking?

They don't usually put in the headline that the info has been lifted from GN or MN, but there'll be a little mention in the article.
You could easily miss it if you're concentrating on the story.
GN facebook seems to have stopped sharing GNers' threads and hasn't posted any of their own since September 2021, except one in March this year about a competition.

I bet that GNet threads from News & Politics would never make the Daily Mail.
Though it would be nice if more people knew that 'old' people aren't all tory voting Brexit supporters
But I do feel safe confining myself to a forum that's never going to go nationwide (or beyond)...
Kryptonite
Really! ?
No!
Everyone knows that Ermintrude is a cow ?
For those who think that they haven't seen any articles taken from MN or GN might need to re-consider. Without acknowledging their sources the DM obviously had a reporter reading the various WI facebook pages as 'discussions' on there kept ending up in that paper. As others have said once you post anything on the internet it is seen as fair game. Especially by those reporters who now trudge the highways and byeways of the internet rather than the mean streets looking for stories. Never put anything online you wouldn't be happy to shout out in the street.
No, nice to know my comments are read by someone…anyone…!
Really! ?

Perhaps we should lure the DM journalists with a fake story!
How about “Gran lists dogging as her main hobby”
‘Devastated to find out that dh has been having a secret affair with Ermintrude - our pet sheep!’
Someone once accused me of making up a story about a spat that I had with the chap who cleaned (or rather didnt clean) my wheelie bins.
I wonder why that blockbuster of a thread never made the tabloids? ?

I know some MN threads have been picked up by (I think) the Daily Mail. One I recall was about a Bridezilla (as they call them) who IIRC returned a wedding gift cheque to the guest, saying that they knew she’d had an inheritance recently, so was certainly expecting rather more - please cough up! Or words to that effect.
IMO anyone with that amount of sheer cheek deserves to have it plastered all over the DM. Personally I would never post anything I wouldn’t want exposed in the DM - their journalists evidently trawl the likes of MN for anything with entertainment value - which I must admit would include that Bridezilla one.
Well it does now! Except I can't imagine anyone being interested.

I’ve never heard of half these people ,either. Just about heard of Britney Spears but not Helen. Different place, different people. Our news is embarrassingly local, nowhere exists except Australia with a bit of China and Russia thrown in.
Helen Skelton used to present Blue Peter, a programme for children which ran from 1958 to, I think, the present. She's gone on to present various TV programmes, some to do with the countryside and farming and she is herself a farmer's
daughter. Her husband is a love rat who went off with his new girlfriend, just after Helen had their third child. He and his new woman boasted about their romance on social media.

By the way summerlove, I have not been on the daily mail website much before or even regularly, as I said. The videos on the right hand side of their main stories this morning were firstly, secondly etc off britney spears in her bikinis and underwear for context. I wouldn't randomly just post that about her. They and their readers obviously love that crap
I suppose I don’t think anything that happened to her is light hearted.
She’s been treated horrifically.
I predominantly post as an EP and if our ES, his wife or anyone who knows them happened to come across anything I've posted over the years it wouldn't bother me. It's all true.
Ah HurdyGurdy this is a fantastic ‘hack’. I barely look at Facebook anymore as it’s an absolute mess, of sponsored ads and ‘suggested’ ads.
I’ll try this in the ‘morrow. Hope they don’t notice this fantastic runaround.

I see mumsnet quoted in stories for the trash tabloid rags that come up on my Facebook wall occasionally (which is annoying im getting these articles ‘suggested’ no matter how many times I click the I don’t want to see articles from the Mirror/Sun/Dailymail et el).
No doesn’t worry me, but I keep the details in my posts vague, ie not the gender of my GC etc, or the region I live in, so my posts aren’t recognised if I did know someone on here.
At the top of my Facebook page (on my phone - I don't really use it on the laptop), there are five icons - from left to right, these are - a house (for homepage), then an outline of two people (for friends), then a blue rectangle with a white arrow in it (for videos), then another symbol, which I can't really describe, but when I click on it, it is for Feeds.
Under the Feeds button are "All", "Favourites", "Friends", "Groups" and "Pages".
If you click on the "favourites" button, you can select whose posts you want to see. I have got my friends and family and a few selected groups/companies. When I click on that each time I go onto Facebook, I don't get those awful "sponsored" or "suggested for you" adverts.
I don't doubt that Facebook will cotton on to this before long, and make it that we can't bypass their advertisers, but for now, I'm enjoying only seeing what I actually want to see, and not what Facebook thinks I want to see.
I also change a few details a bit when I post.
Not because I have anything to be ashamed of or anything.
If my estranged mother found me here she could anonymously make me miserable and she would love that.
I've had a couple of estranged mothers think I could be their daughter and that was complicated enough

There was an element of sarcasm and light heartedness about my post. The fact her ex husband is on our UK national tv milking it for all it is worth and 'worrying' about his boys (who are pretty old now?) tells me all I need to know actually - even though I haven't really followed it all
The media and most probably her own family want her to go off the rails, I imagine no one is or has supported her properly
Women are not to be trusted and they are easily manipulated within and by the media. There is a long list of women who are bad, crazy, off the rails, drunk, on drugs etc they mostly mean the same fate - unfortunately. I'm concerned about this, the media aren't.

she was def being held captive and her bikinis and racy underwear were being held hostage anywhere but her own house
She couldn’t decide on her own birth control
She wasn’t allowed to drive
She had to ask permission to access her own funds
She wasn’t allowed an iPhone
She had to ask her father permission to see her boyfriend
She wasn’t allowed to have her children
She wasn’t allowed to choose her own lawyers
She was forced to work.
Does all of that sound worth it to be able to post bikini videos? Get a grip, do some research and do not be so prudish.
Britney was basically trafficked.
JaneJudge, you reminded me of the time in my youth when a judge in court asked “who are the Beatles”. It caused incredulity in the general public. Nowadays that would be me. I have no idea who these so called celebrities or entertainers are.
I don't know about in the news but I know some threads make it outside gransnet and people have then shown up here quite cross about what is said on them.
I suppose it depends whether or not you care what your family/relatives think. I gave up on that a long time ago. I am the batty/eccentric aunty so thats ok with me.
